lly spoco? For fuck's sake, man! Am I really crazy to think that danny0U812's 'metaphorical' threat of a beatdown on longe was not one of the dumber comments in recent history? It would be lame enough coming from someone with enough fortitude to back up the threat, let alone someone who'd be lucky to get even odds against a wet paper bag. If calling this stupid comment out makes me the bad guy, so be it. Bwahahahaha.......

See, that's the problem, you took the negative view of what he said. YOU thought him saying he would move to the front of the bus meant that in the end he would end up beating longe... whereas the way I took it, and the way he meant it, was that he was just moving away from the altercation, which is what EBM did... it's why I tend to 'side' with EBM if anyone in this sad video because he tried to move away and diffuse the situation.
If you like to think the absolute worst of people all the time and rather than take it as a moving away from conflict, take it as a call to arms, well I'm afraid that almost any situation must seem like people are trying to start a fight.

OK. Now shine my shoes, boy.

It kind of cracks me up how we are using the acronym 'EBM' without a hint of irony in semi-serious discussion. Lucky needs design a "WWEBMD?" shirt.

Epic Beard Man Interview

Dude, you're the one that's preachy. Come on, dude. I put one word down, and you go off on how sad you are about the condition of the world, about my heroes, and the rest.

The video was FUNNY. The young dude got what he deserved, and EBM was able to defend himself.

It's not like I wrote down "[h]eroic" in all CAPS followed by exclamation point as so: "HEROIC!"

>> ^longde:
Look, the guy is not in any way heroic. Tragic, yes; a sympathetic figure to some, sure; but heroic, no way.
Just over the last month, there are people all over the world that have done heroic things, much of it captured on youtube and videosift. Some kid pushed a stalled car off rail tracks before it was hit. People rescued others from collapsed buildings after an earthquake. Police and firemen have saved lives this week. Yet, this guy gets the moniker of "epic" and you call him a hero. Get real. Is your bar for heroism that low? If so, that's sad.
Irony alert when preachy people tell me to get off my high horse. I do have some crazy relatives, but I'm not addled enough to call them heroes. I try to get them help when i can. Which is what is missing from this hullabaloo. Of all the videos and websites, who is raising money to get this man some help? People are going so far as to post the names and addresses of the camera people for revenge, and others are talking about recovering the guy's bag. Those things aren't going to help this guy.
Most videos are just using his image to drive some stupid meme. This video for example. She obviously found this guy. Why not ask him about his living conditions and how to help, and then relay to others with her video. Noone is helping because they see EBM as a sideshow, to be forgotten tomorrow.

Heroic.

I feel kinda sorry for people who are so short of heroes to make this troubled guy into one. The Great White Hope ain't what it used to be.......

Dang. You could just call my comment "disgusting" and leave it at that (you've done it before to some other newb). Maybe you don't have a father figure in advanced age who rides the bus and may be subjected to this type of silliness only to be able to answer forcefully.
Get off the high horse for a second. We're all a little crazy. Thank the good lord there is you, with your large, generous, and sympathetic heart to guide us into the moral oblivion that is what the world is supposed to be and not what it is.

His momma died, you the one who's crazy, Dag.

Still doesn't change the fact that old man was making up stories left right and centre - how much time had that kid supposedly served? Who told EBM that? Why did he just wing like it was off the top of his head? How come that info isnt in the papers?

I'll eat my avatar if assertion he made was true.

Young Turks Analysis of Epic Beard Man

MaxWilder says...

In my opinion, there are two separate, though related, incidents here. There is a shouting match, and there is a physical confrontation.

Both were wrong to engage in the shouting match, I don't care how it started. The sensible person walks away and shuts up. Points in EBM's favor for at least walking away, but he failed to shut up. So that portion is maybe 70% Epic Loser Boy's fault, 30% EBM's fault.

A physical confrontation is a separate thing. The first person to pull a weapon or throw a punch is at fault, 100%. Once ELB hit EBM, he was at fault, and EBM was defending himself. He has every right to continue defending himself until he feels that there is no longer a threat (ie. the guy can't get back up and start swinging again). The fact that ELB got up and walked to the back of the bus means EBM went EASY on him. On this point, Anna is waaaay off. Street fights are vicious, and once somebody proves they are capable of initiating a fight, you cannot trust them to stop at a reasonable point. You have every right to make sure they can't get up (though I don't think a jury would let you get away with killing someone for a single punch).

I think this is him. His age has been misrepresented on a number of occasions.

>> ^GeeSussFreeK:
The chan does not think this person is the EBM. The man in the video is 62 at the time, which is 2 years ago. So, either EBM doesn't know his age, lied about his age on the bus, or this video isn't the EBM.

I disagree with Anna calling EBM a loser. He's mentally ill and has some problems, yes, but that doesn't make him a loser. You don't know how he came to be the man he is.

I also disagree that the beating was excessive. He put the guy down and then he walked away. I'd say that actually shows him to be somewhat lucid. When you're in a fight like that, especially when you're defending yourself, you're just an animal. The adrenaline pumps and it's fight or flight. Once the switch flips, it's hard to just turn it off. I'm an excessively passive person and I don't think even I could have turned it off that easily.

I don't think anyone is really idolizing EBM, he's just an intriguing character. Even without the fight, he's a crazy old man wearing a shirt that says "I am a motherfucker". You've got to wonder what his deal is when you see something like that. He's also the underdog in the fight, and everyone loves an underdog.

Um... he wasn't threatening at all, he was saying he was moving away from the conflict... what EBM did in an effort to defuse things. It would seem like you've reacted in exactly the same way the idiot did in this video and continued to try to provoke... nice.

Thank you spoco2, i'm glad some people could get their head around what i was saying. I got as far as "you're an idiot" before i completely blanked him out.
If someone can read my comment and summarise from it that i'm an idiot, i have absolutely no idea where to go from there.
You're absolutely right though dyst - you are no psychologist.
My statements:
Treating different people differently is not necessarily good.
A non-racist never needs to vet their opinions for racism - they don't need to TRY to not be racist.

Your accusations are personal and not intended to discredit my argument but to discredit me, but i forgive you that.
You have - as you have done before, yes i remember you doing this on exactly the same subject (racism) - read what i put, and substituted it for something else. You've blatantly accused me of things i didn't say, and everyone can see that, so you need not apologise. What i said is very concise and is absolutely accurate. When racism is truly gone, no one will even consider it an issue, no one will need to worry that they're going to be accidentally racist. And that will be a wonderful day.
I'm afraid my concepts of racism are beyond you. And that is indicative of why racism is still such a big issue, because people like you can't understand what a true non-racist viewpoint is. Sorry brother, i bow out discourse with you on this one, you can't keep up.
Edit:
I'd just like to add, dystopian, that i never made any kind of attack at you. Your pseudo-psycho-babble to try and "show my deep rooted problems" is some of the most rediculous hokum i've seen in a long while. What you've done is try and look like you're doing something intelligent, when what you're actually doing is finely magnifying any ambiguity in anything i say and exposing it to your own ends as "my deep rooted problems". I'm not going to stoop to this level, and i think you illustrate one of the worst things about the sift in that post. You're not interested in a discussion, you're interested in making your opponents look like racists/morons/assholes, leaving your argument as what, the last man standing?
I never insulted you. In the words of EBM - why are you being so hostile?
