STAR TREK BEYOND Official Trailer #2 (2016)
Yeah, sign me up for the "this looks awful" train.
Right now, there is one thing that might make me want to see this and that's the fact that Simon Pegg wrote it.
Because Simon Pegg is awesome and he actually cares about this.
But I can picture the scene now...
INT: PARAMOUNT EXEC's office
SIMON PEGG: "I've just finished the screenplay for the new Star Trek movie"
PARAMOUNT EXEC flicks through script, obviously not reading it
PARAMOUNT EXEC: "Great.. great! great work, Si (can I call you Si?) Now can we add some ninjas and dirt bikes?"
SIMON PEGG: "er, that's not really what it's about. And please don't call me Si."
PARAMOUNT EXEC: "Thanks Si! So we'll have those ninjas and dirt bikes in the next draft. Also good news, you'll never guess who we got to direct it."
SIMON PEGG: "I was thinking maybe Duncan Jones. He did some great sci-fi with Moon."
PARAMOUNT EXEC: "nah, he's off making an extended blizzard cgi sequence! No, even better, we got Justin Lin!"
SIMON PEGG: "The guy from Fast & Furious? Why? why would you...."
SIMON PEGG breaks down crying
PARAMOUNT EXEC laughs maniacally

Assassin's Creed Trailer
Yep. So far this year, we've had Duncan Jones wasting his time with the warcraft movie and now Michael Fassbender and Marion Cottilard are wasting their time on this nonsense.
Calling it now, this will be a flashy, expensive and utterly nonsensical clusterfuck.
Considering the actual game's storyline makes so little sense, the chances of a video game movie adaptation (probably the most reliably terrible movie genre of all time) improving upon that are next to none.
Warcraft Trailer
@mentality, is it ok now if I say this looks like a waste of Duncan Jones talents, or do I actually need to sit through this second rate hobbit/games workshop ripoff?
Warcraft - Trailer Tease
Fair point about Pirates of the Caribbean (the first one, at least).
As for the quality, I never said it wouldn't be a quality picture. I'm sure it will be well executed.
But we have HEAPS of big summer blockbusters and fuck all clever sci-fi like Moon, so I'd rather see Duncan Jones doing something more interesting than this.
And OF COURSE I can comment on a movie based on a teaser. If that's all they put out, that's all I can comment on, and what I see here is IMO, a waste of a good director.
If you find that condescending, that's your problem.
Acknowledging that you may be wrong does not mean you were not being incredibly condescending.
Will this be the next Citizen Kane? No. And no one is asking it to be. It has the potential to be a well crafted summer blockbuster. And no, a big budget blockbuster is not inherently inferior to a small indie movie like Moon. It's that kind of elitist attitude that is condescending.
And no, you cannot comment on the quality of the movie based on a 15 second teaser, so far before release. All it shows is that Duncan Jones respects the source material, at least visually.
And as for Warcraft not being known for its story? Well, they made a good movie out of a Disney theme park ride, so anything can happen.

Did you read the rest of my comment?
I acknowledged that I could very well be wrong. But this shows me nothing that makes me want to see it, and frankly it looks like a fairly boring retread of the last hobbit movie.
Warcraft - Trailer Tease
It saddens me immensely to see the director of Moon reduced to this.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's all a massive setup for an awesome meta-narrative head fuck and it's actually a movie length version of The Guild.
Or it might even be that mythical thing: a good video game movie.
But I would still rather see Duncan Jones talents put to work elsewhere.

Yep - there's some good ones in there. It could be a good year for SF. Duncan Jones - director of Moon is also working on a Bladerunner homage! http://www.firstshowing.net/2011/duncan-jones-mute-stalled-but-homage-to-blade-runner-is-next/>> ^garmachi:

Here's a good preview of what to expect from SF films in 2012:

Most excited about Prometheus and Cloud Atlas.
This comment sent me on an internet tangent which lasted well over an hour. I wound up about 7 links downstream, shook myself out of the haze and thought "haven't surfed like that since the early days of the net."
Thanks @dag

You'll probably like Source Code. It's a tight SF thriller- a bit on the short side - and a little more mainstreamy than Moon - but still good and validates Duncan as someone who can direct a fairly complicated movie and have it make sense to to a general audience without dumbing it down.
I wish someone good would do a reboot of Bladerunner making a version more true to the original book Do Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep which had so much more in it:

I have high hopes for Proyas as well. I think our best bet though, for smart speculative fiction on the screen is Duncan Jones. Director of both Moon and the recent Source Code - his next film is supposedly a homage to Blade Runner set in Berlin - which sounds just awesome.

Nobody ever wants to watch Logan's Run with me - but I love that movie so much.
Oh! Great movie, I downloaded it recently to watch again, but it has to be one of those I watch alone as my wife has only so much ability to watch dated Sci Fi (current sci fi no probs).
Knowing had good bits, but I disliked the resolve. Also had high hopes because it was Alex, and, well, shot in Melbourne Yeay for the museum that me and the kids go to regularly.
Alex has done some stunning work, Dark City and the Crow, some ok work, iRobot was pretty good as long as you didn't actually expect it to be anything to do with Asimov, and some dribble... Garage Days was pretty crap.
I'd love to see him get back on top with an awesome, high concept, visually thrilling film again. Dark City is just so damn awesome.
Oh, but yeah, the plane crash scene in Knowing was awesome, very awesome.
Moon was pretty darn awesome, proper sci fi, dealing with 'concepts' rather than just flying cars and lasers. Source code looks cool, haven't seen it yet. But a 'love letter' to Blade Runner sounds ok by me

Now this looks good! Why is Duncan Jones the only director willing to take a chance on good non-superhero SF? He's Kubrick's heir.

The 49 Films That Will Define 2010 (Cinema Talk Post)
That's a pretty decent list -- the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that's missing is Centurion, Neil Marshall's newest film (he directed The Decent, which was one of the best horror films of the decade. Doomsday was also underrated, as far as I'm concerned).
Also, Mute will unfortunately not be coming out in 2010, as Duncan Jones has already committed to another film.

^Exactly BTE, those are my thoughts too. Duncan Jones' next movie he is comparing to Bladerunner in scope and world creation - I hope he doesn't lose the hand-made feel and sense of wonder that this movie had.
