with all the unique creatures that have evolved on this planet, many in seemly impossible environments, it is only logical to believe there are some alien life forms out there.

this story only adds to the possibility...

...but the neighborhood cats have yet to catch any of the government drones, so can't confirm that.

Exclusive Look At New Killer Drone Small Enough To Fit In

spawnflagger says...

Even Amazon Delivery Drones could be re-purposed to drop grenades from an altitude high enough to be inaudible & hard to see.

There were several examples of near-future dystopian sci-fi use of killer drones on Black Mirror...
1 was a small flying kamikaze drone that had facial recognition and a shape charge just big enough to penetrate the targets skull.
Other was Boston-Dynamics-style "dog" robot that had a gun embedded into it's front "paw" and was programmed to kill all humans. Both terrifying and hopefully never deployed IRL.

Exclusive Look At New Killer Drone Small Enough To Fit In

Coming soon, personal battlefield EMPs.

Why are they even $6k? FPV drones aren’t 1/10 that much, and explosives are cheap. Any terrorist worth his salt could make 10 at home for that cost.

Texts from Russian soldier to mother before he was killed

vil says...

Yes that is a thing.

Not all russians have phones. Plus they are anyway mostly sitting in vehicles stuck on roads sometimes without gas or food. It is a tactical mess of Trump-like proportions.

Also ukranian drones are still able to fly. The russians are advancing by the sheer mass of their bodies as usual, no brains or preparation involved.

Unfortunately the Russian army is 10 times stronger than the Ukrainian.

spawnflagger said:

wow, didn't realize the Russian soldiers all had their phones. seems it would be relatively easy for Ukrainian telecoms to track every Russian SIM/IMEI, at least within 20m accuracy.

Ukrainians made a song about... Bayraktar

That line about shepherds and sheep was fucking solid! Certainly didn't expect a Ukrainian diss track about an autonomous drone to make me smile in 2022, but here we are!... Bayraktar!

To be fair, it did drone on just a bit.

Humbug! What smash hit? I don't see it on Billboard Hot 100.... ooooohhh.....

Strictly speaking, it should be a Hit Smash song, LOL!

Wingsuit flyby of Giza Pyramids

cloudballoon says...

Allowing people fly so close and risk an accidental smashing with the Pyramids seem not a worthwhile risk for Eygpt's department of antiquity me. Regulated drones I understand, but not these Wingsuit flybys. I mean, if I'm its head honcho, I'd tell these people to f'-off somewhere else, LOL.

5200 Drone light show, Breaking 4 World Records - High Great

vil says...

They (chinese communist state) really need to move on from the old hammer and sickle to upholding individual human rights. Until they do no display is dazzling enough to cover it all up.

Drones are machines, only as evil as their masters.

newtboy says...

You forgot the (alleged) assasination attempt on President Maduro in Venezuela. They only had two drones.

A swarm of 5200 could take out any non hardened above ground target, including the White House, and no ballistic system in use today could stop them all. Indeed, if they are programmed to come from every direction to one point, flying low, they would almost certainly go undetected until it was too late and could deliver tons (literally) of high explosives.

If you watch this and feel anything but complete terror, you're missing the point. An AI controlled drone swarm is a military nightmare: you can blind radar; shut down comms; interrupt C3 at a crucial moment.

The things that can be done with a thousand cheap drones and some basic AI can render billion-dollar military systems moot in the event of real combat. The US Navy is already shitting themselves over this (there's already been a few incidents, most recently off the coast of San Diego), and the USAF isn't far behind. Serious drones incidents -- from unknown attackers -- have happened in the US. This including an attempted attack on a power station and a bizarre cat-and-mouse game between USBP/HLS and an unidentified "super drone" over Arizona on more than one occasion.

Did you notice what they were displaying? This wasn't meant to be oo-aah cute, this was China telling the US military they fuck around at their own risk. The last time someone sent a message this clearly, Billy Mitchell was flying a biplane over a captured German destroyer.

"Far less chance for severe mishaps, too" -- I know you meant something totally different, but in the case of what I'm talking about, the exact opposite holds true.

These drones light shows are feeling samey-samey real fast, no "wow" factor anymore to me just like fireworks, though they can convey any messages (propaganda?) far more clearly and inventively if done right. But at least these drones get reused events after events. Hopefully the environmental impact is less than fireworks at the end of the their days.

Far less chance of severe mishaps too.
