Roasters Wanted! (Parody Talk Post)

choggie says...

I think the roast is going to make a good read, after the event, because we may have trouble in real time with participants,...would not want anyone to feel left out, if they are at work(shudder) or something......

Here are some crude guidelines for a roast, from the Farmer's Almanac
http://www.almanac.com/food/roasting.php
wait, not that one....this one-
http://ezinearticles.com/?Humor---Hosting-A-Roast&id=200962

This guy hits all the basics, including the obligatory retorts, from the roastee, at the finale, after all the jokes are beaten to death, and there is no more energy, from PMSL, or ROTFL, or, DTWTAHO (damn, that will take another hernia operation)

Perhaps it is this aspect of the roast, that makes weary the apprehensive-

(When the roastmaster opens the program, he must keep in mind that there are going to be people in the audience who are not comfortable with poking fun at others. It is his job to tell them that we only roast people that we like and that it is all in fun. By poking fun at himself at the beginning, this will help put the audience at ease.)

I am already preparing, my self-effacing opener, as sensitive and self-conscious as I am, I will try hard to turn the mirror upon myself, to make a fine example for the rest of ya......

I know i am not that clever or funny as some here, and there are some witty folks that would be an asset to a roast, (a harsh contrast to the inordinate amount, of absolutely boring motherfuckers here), and I hope if you think you are funny or clever, you will show up, so we can spread the new-bung-ripping cheer, to the deserving, and the cowardly.....

I suggest going and watching some old Dean Martin roasts, or one of the best ever-The Comedy Central, Dennis Leary Roast-That was one for the record books....

Who Wants to Be Roasted? (Parody Talk Post)

choggie says...

500 is too long to wait, to rip some new ones around here......
So fr it's choggie, jonny by default, cause his head is so swoloen and plump, and swampgirl still has a choice, though we need a straight man at the roasting table, as in, not so funny, but a good sport.......how about it sg???

And dot dude was the inspiration, so he better sign up-
The thing is, the folks we roast, can be very polite, and have benign sift personalities-(as in, not an asshole like me, {insert name here}, this can make it even more fun sometimes...How about a list of the roastee's, from Dean Martin's show.....some were very dry personalities-They did M.Ali, John Wayne, and Angie Dickenson, and of course Orson Welles

I can think right off the bat, who I would want to be roasted by...
deathcow
fletch
raven...(mmmmmm squaaaabb!)
theo47
fedquip
westy
MINK

Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder perform "For Once In My Life"

swampgirl says...

This is Tony Bennett's American Classic featuring Stevie Wonder. Both have made this song famous in two separate genres. Here they bring it together magically.

I initially was going to post Wonder's version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PC4A6u0eE0 but somehow this had much more of an emotional connection that does the song justice.

Bennett's knock em dead performance in his prime can be seen as the second song in this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZMsqdD7FpM a variety show starring Dean Martin..

Dean Martin and Jimmy Stewart - Phone Booth Skit

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Ring-a-ding-ding, Dean Martin couldn't act his way out of a martini glass. This is good though.

Also, if I could do any voice impression, I would like to be able to do Jimmy Stewart - he has an amazingly identifiable character voice.
