CH-46 (Chinook) helicopter crashes into ocean

cybrbeast says...

Aha "snuff" films, okay by that definition it doesn't pass. Maybe the FAQ change because I don't remember it being so explicit.

However I don't know if this clip shows "explicit depiction of loss of human life", cause we don't actually see bodies. Gray area...

Horror in Myanmar--Warning, Video of Shooting of Journalist

sbchapm says...

rough translation from Reddit:

Voice over: The tragedy took place in central Yangon. Civilians retreating from the security forces. As the camera panned to the left, Mr. Nagai gets shot.

Man: This is the Tokyo Shinbun from this morning. It has a photo from Reuters. Judging from his appearance and situation, the man lying there is Mr. Nagai. The caption says, man trying to capture photo as he falls. This appears to have been Mr. Nagai.

We'll take a look at the footage again, but despite earlier reports that he had been caught by a wandering bullet, there doesn't seem to be any way that this is the case.

Woman: It appears that he was shot point blank.

Voice over: <same thing as opening>.

Mr. Nagai falls there and, seemingly to appeal for help, waves his spasming arms. In that hand was a camera. Wearing short sleeves and short pants. We cannot discern from this footage whether he was wearing an armband or helmet to show that he was a member of the press.

The man who shot him was a soldier in uniform. The footage shows that he stopped running and shot Mr. Nagai at point blank range. Then, after shooting him, goes on to fire at others around him.

2 minutes later the camera caught Mr. Nagai again. Still on the ground, he doesn't move. Autopsy showed that the bullet penetrated his heart.

Mr. Nagai was with news production APF Communications. This clip shows him on a Fuji TV show 6 years ago.

Mr. Nagai: We seem to get many Taliban communications on the radio.

@ Studio: The most striking thing was the juvenile (underaged) soldiers.

Voice over: The veteran journalist who has covered war zones in Afghanistan and Palestine has lost his life.

Incredible luck, defying death montage

sixfeet says...

You know, I know Rally driving is a pretty big thing in some areas of the world. However, looking at this particular clip show I got a sense of why exactly I have no interest in it, at all. To me this is no better than NASCAR, waiting for the wrecks to happen.

The self promotion rule (Sift Talk Post)

aidos says...

Sorry swampgirl but I have to disagree. again it comes down to transparency. at the moment anyone can use the method you suggest... and it can be taken one step further where a user links to their own videos on YT. By that method any first time user can get their friend/fake YT account to post a clip for them without breaking the rules.

Now this seems like it shouldn't be a problem, after all you end up with more interesting clips showing up that were not available anywhere on YT before. That part I don't have a problem with and in fact I think it's generally a good thing.

The issue, as I see it, is that sometime in the future people will alter the clips by embedding their own branding/advertising (as far as I'm concerned only the producers of the content have a right to do that). Maybe that's not a problem but it really does open the floodgates for a whole lot of abuse of the whole community.

The fact of the matter is that there are plenty of members with content they want to share and currently the only way they can do so is by sneaking around (which has happened in the past and will continue to happen unless we address the issue).

I'd be more than happy with a solution whereby only the gold star members can self promote so long as they add the post to a self promotion channel of some description. That way we don't have first time sifters breaking the rule as it stands and productive members aren't treated like criminals.

Oscar Flashback: Michael Moore tells the truth, gets booed

BicycleRepairMan says...

The booers are just expressing their freedom of speech, same as Mr. Moore.

I never claimed otherwise, I mentioned the booing because its a) highly unusual to boo at an oscar winner and b)He was right back then, and this clip shows how far the corporate,GOP dildo was pounded up the ass of the American people only 4 years and 700.000 dead people ago. Funny how times change.

Jamie Oliver shows Schoolkids how Chicken Nuggets are made

winkler1 says...

I downloaded the School Dinners show and it was fascinating.. from the perspective of how difficult it was for him to change attitudes. Eventually, marketing and directly working with the 'opposition leaders' (as this clip shows) was the most effective.

PM me for a torrent link to the school dinners shows

News On VideoSift (Sift Talk Post)

joedirt says...

You know, this is a really good idea. As youtube gets more popular, and more people put their tivo crap up on in interwebs... This is a great opportunity. VideoNewsSift.

People could put more global news clips, etc. Though I imagine it would mostly be DailyShow clips showing news.

Muslim Rave Party

gwaan says...

This clip shows Shi'a Muslims on the day of Ashura (عاشوراء) overcome with emotion and crying and beating themselves in protest and remembrance of a horrible tragedy - the murder of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad, and his family at the Battle of Karbala in the year 61 AH (AD 680). The imam has just finished reading about the tragedy and he is deeply moved. He and the others inflict pain on themselves to remind themselves of the pain that Husayn and his family suffered. Husayn's martyrdom is seen by Shi'a as a symbol of the struggle against injustice, tyranny, and oppression. Saddam Hussein, himself a cruel, unjust and tyranical leader, banned Shi'a Muslims from publicly commemorating Ashura. This is a very important and sad day for Shi'a Muslims and one which I personally don't think should be trivially mocked by those who know nothing about it.

I'm not against good religious satire - this just isn't any good!

This is a Whirling Dervish

Farhad2000 says...

The Mevlevi, or "The Whirling Dervishes", believe in performing their dhikr in the form of a "dance" and music ceremony called the sema. The Sema represents a mystical journey of man's spiritual ascent through mind and love to "Perfect." Turning towards the truth, the follower grows through love, deserts his ego, finds the truth and arrives to the "Perfect." He then returns from this spiritual journey as a man who has reached maturity and a greater perfection, so as to love and to be of service to the whole of creation....

Sema literally means a joyful song and comes from the Arabic word, sam that means to listen, but Sema' at whole means song (avaz), ecstasy (vajd) and dance (pay-kubi and dast-afshani) with its special rules and orders. Sema-o-raghs means the Sufism dance.

The Sema is a beautiful thing to see, there is a video of it on YouTube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S45OJnQp6mI

"The Sema Ceremony comemmerates the passing of Hz. Mevlana Jelaluddin RUMI, known in the west as a 13th-century mystic poet. He also founded the Mevlevi Sufi Order, still active worldwide 733 years after his passing from this world. This clip shows Whirling Dervishes of the Mevlevi Order of America in the Sema Ceremony in Istanbul, December 2005. We presented the Sema Ceremony in Eugene, Seattle and Portland December 2006, and will present Sema in N.Y., D.C. and New Jersey in December 2007. Further information at hayatidede.org. "
