Young Boy strip searched by TSA

jackhalfaprayer says...

Umm... Religious doctrine? Cults? Market research? Corporate policy? Economic policy by banks, hedge funds, Wall St.? Big Pharma? Big Agro? Big Oil? People who blame government for everything don't understand government. Government fails because of people, not because of intention. If you are down on government save us all the time and just denounce humanity and go live in a cave somewhere. Build your own running water system, police, and fire dept. while you're at it.

Also, if you don't like it, don't fly. Maybe instead of bitching about the TSA you could suggest an alternative? Do something constructive? I'm not going to sit here and scream "GROPING" and "PORNO" for these measures, even though I don't like them either. Call a spade a spade. The kid will be just fine. He'll get over it. Check your rhetoric. It's a brave new world. Educate yourself about it before you turn into the very type of radical that gets everyone into trouble.

>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:

Ever notice how the only thing in human history that EVER creates that kind of mindset is government policy?

^I'm sure that never occurred to him. "Each according to their needs" isn't easily or typically interpreted as "if you need it, then make it for yourself." It's always "I need it, so I'm entitled to it."

Ridiculous comment. What are you, Amish?

I'm not going to build my own car or my own computer or my own vastly complex graphic software because I need these things. Just the same as you don't build your own video cameras.

I thought you liked the idea of the exchange of goods and services.

Penn Says: Agnostic vs. Atheist

Jesus_Freak says...

^MaxWilder

1) Who rolled the dice, where did the die come from? How did the die come to have impact? Reiterate the statistical argument to me however you want, you can't get around a supernatural origin an point zero. Just because "science may never be able to prove or disprove" that point, my belief that God fills in the blank is no less valid in my own beliefs.

2) The writers of the New Testament were Jews. If you read carefully the account of Jesus' life, its events are not exactly high on the priority list to jot down for those who did not believe. Those who rejected Christ at the time thought Him irrelevant at best, scandalous at worst. Do you seriously think there should be a police blotter in Jerusalem at the time recording the temporary disruption of money changers and vendors at the temple? Do you not see a motive for non-believing Jews to conveniently omit him? "Yeah, there was this man of God going around and healing folks, but then we killed him. Let's write down the first part, but not the second."

3) The "Thou Shalt Not Kill/Murder" argument against the Bible is an old standby. I posted on a different video the distinction made in Romans 13 that God empowers governments to, among other things, "bring punishment to the wrongdoer." The 10 commandments, and Jesus' subsequent teachings are clearly applicable on a personal/individual level. It would be a sin for me to go to war with the express purpose of working out my own desires of hatred or revenge. According to Jesus, even having the hatred in the first place is the same sin as murder.

4) You accuse me of knowing little about the Bible, when you use convenient shreds of it to build your own arguments. Peter's denial of Christ had a very definite place and purpose. Christ bore the suffering of the cross completely on His own, even suffering separation from God the Father as He bore the sins of the world. If you bother reading any further, Peter is reconciled to Christ and given a mission to establish the Church and watch after Jesus' sheep, the sting of the previous betrayal now fueling conviction he didn't have before. By all accounts, each of the 12 (save John) met a violent end. You have not refuted my argument.

My whole purpose in this thread is to better understand why it is so important for you science-minded atheists to deconstruct religion, Christianity in particular. Why are we such a nuisance to you? Does your keen intellect not allow you to ignore our "ignorance?" Are your feelings hurt when we believe in a heaven and a hell, separated by belief in Christ? Do the actions of a few of our outlying members truly outweigh the collective good of the movement? Are you focusing on what you perceive as hypocrisy?

I find it ironic that I am the one most often accused of intolerance.

>> ^blankfist:It's a right to free movement. Ever heard of it?

You mean "right of free ingress into other States, and egress from them." ? It has to do with crossing state lines, read you own link.

By restricting it to a licensed driver, you're effectively limiting that right.

By not giving you piles of money the government is limiting your right to own half the skyline of New York, they have not revoked the right, but it is limited.

This is more of that "vote if you want to change policy" rhetoric, isn't it?

Not necessarily, though that is one tactic. The asshat in the video could run for city council and push to have the speed limit changed on the road or roads in question. I personally know people who have successfully run for city/town council to further their agenda. Chances are most local officials are in it for their own causes.

If you don't buy my house there are plenty of other houses

And I can't use yours without your permission, or in ways we have not agreed to. The absence of an alternate road network is entirely irrelevant to the validity of the states property claim.

The DMV won't negotiate terms.

Yes they will, just not to anything you want. Want a boat license, semi, motorcycle? they will happily give you a license on different terms, but, just like any other person, business or organization, they will not just give you any random thing you want because you whine about it.

The state owns the roads, you can build your own roads and offer them for use on different terms, or you can take your share in the state and try to influence how the roads are managed. To imply you have the right to use somebody else's property in whatever way you want is not particularly cogent, unless you intend to argue that all property claims are invalid, but somehow I don't think that is your position.

The Neo Cube - 216 Individual High-Energy Sphere Magnets

jimnms says...

I actually bought one of these. It is fun for a while, but the balls are so small you're fingers are sore after playing with it. This video also makes it look a lot easier than it really is to make a cube. You can also go to supermagnetman.net and just order some bulk sphere magnets and build your own.

You can't compare schools to pavement and water pipes?

In reply to this comment by dystopianfuturetoday:
Our system isn't ala carte. Schools, like roads or any other public works are available to you whether you want to use them or not. If you don't like public roads, you may build your own, but it's not the responsibility of the government to pave custom roads for you. Public priority lies with the public system. If you want to improve or extend the road (school) system, then get involved in local politics. (school board, city council, initiative system, etc.)

Also, the embezzlers would be McSchool, not you.

Vouchers and 'school choice' are embezzlement scams.

How can they be embezzlement scams? There are no vouchers and "school choice" now..unless you just plain pull your kid out and go to a private school or homeschool. Even then we still pay taxes for public schools.

I hope you aren't saying I want to embezzle my own money when I want my tax money back since I'm not using the public school.

Mac Vs Bloated PC

HaricotVert says...

Please note: it's not MICROSOFT (not sure why the tag "Vista" is being used) that is bundling all that crap on your PC, it's the stupid manufacturers like Dell, Gateway, HP, and whomever else that puts together prebuilt rigs. If you're stupid enough to buy from those manufacturers anyways, you may as well reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows once you get it up and running out of the box, just to save yourself the trouble.

Furthermore, if you build your own PC (as many do), there is no 'bloatware' anyways...

Mac owners are snob

Constitutional_Patriot says...

Too bad you can't build your own Mac clone.. one of the beauties of PC Clones is that you can easily purchase top performance parts from a wide variety of sources and build an awesome system yourself. Something you can't do with a mac.. God I hate proprietary crap. Overpriced, typically underperformed and they make you talk to a troubleshooter for an hour even if you already know for sure what the problem is and need a replacement part.

PCs rock

The War is over between HD DVD and Blu-ray (Blog Entry by eric3579)

Arsenault185 says...

Fuck Blu-Ray. I don't get it. A quick Google search using the very first set of numbers that pop up gives me this:
Blu Ray DVD Player - 400.00
HD DVD Player - 179.00

Now they offer the same definition, so please tell me why Blu Ray is so much cooler. This is the only good thing Blu Ray has to offer.

I get the fact that Blu Ray offers the ability to pack Star Wars Episodes (1-6 plus the originals plus the remakes plus the digitally enhanced originals, plus the digitally enhanced remake of the originals.. you see where i'm going with this..) all onto one disc. Now if you can actually sit there and not have to get up once every 2 hours to piss or smoke or get another beer, then thats fine. But theres no reason why you can change a disc (DVD disc changers piss me off to). Now for software applications, Blu Ray is awesome. But i have yet to see a decent devotion towards that purpose, and merely a drive of Blu Ray DVD players. SO again, someone please enlighten me.

Ron Paul on Morning Joe 12-18-07

BicycleRepairMan says...

I'm no expert in history, but to claim that if the US wasnt involved in WW1, WW2 wouldnt have happened, sounds a bit of a stretch to me. I wont claim the opposite either, since it would be impossible to predict any outcome.

But say the US never got involved, and Hitler came to power anyway, and he successfully conquered most of Europe, exterminated as many Jews and other minorites he possibly could, and so on. If he had basically established his 3rd reich in all its morbid glory, and the Japanese empire's equally absurd goals were reached, would Ron Paul still be the same non-interventionist?

He seems like bit of a black and white kind of guy here, foreign policy isnt always that simple* There is such a thing as a growing threat. Iraq really wasnt one, in terms of clear and present danger to US citizens, but Hitler on the other hand, was on the verge of becoming what he wanted to become, "lucky" for us, he wasted 4,5 million soldiers on the sovjet union( who payed that price with 11 million soldiers and 12 million civilians..) Clearly, looking at these numbers, "non-intervention" can only go so far.

*The same goes for the practically tax-free fend-for-yourself-nation domestic policy. Back in 1776 that was the best they could come up with, because in the promised land, you didnt have to give the pope half your income, and you didnt have to suck up to kings or churches and shit like that, you could make your own damn luck. dig for gold and build your own future, it was a dream come true for the fed up European. But time goes by, and soon enough those gold-diggers become families, wealthy familes. and Companies, and empires. The Rockefellers, The Kennedys, The Bushes, and all the rest and if you happen to be born into any of these families, Good for you. If, on the other hand you are born in a poor family, and you require a wheelchair to get around.. Are we suddenly Social Darwinists now ? I'm not. I feel we should take care of our fellow humans, build healthcare and educational systems, Give people rights, you know. And in Europe, we've done just that, sure we pay higher taxes, but we have a system that provides a safety net to some degree, and a sense of fairness, for the less fortunate of us. Its not all "work hard and you'll make it". Chance, luck and timing plays a role in practically every business adventure. And even if it didnt, do we only want people with business-skills?

Ron Paul is certainly smarter and more honest than most candidates, past or present, but I sometimes think he's a bit blinded by this whole constitution-dream-world.
