Sad. From where I stand, as a christian, these kinds of people do infinitely more damage than any critics like Hitchens and Dawkins could ever dream of. They are also infinitely more offensive to me, and I wish more people would publicly stand up and denounce this kind of thing.

If you are sick, then go and get help from a doctor. By all means pray as well, but do both. Refusing to go to the doctor because you prayed is like starving to death in a house full of food while you pray for help with your hunger. And as was said up thread, if you so deeply believe God is planning a miracle, how do you expect a mere mortal doctor to stop him? Surely if the leg is amputated you can still pray for it to be restored. Sorry, but being hysterical and illogical over your daughter's illness is NOT the same as having a grounded faith.

That's funny. Most soldiers I know amputated or not would find it funny.

It's in no way insulting or demeaning, it's in fact quite uplifting, he's saying that here are a bunch of healthy, athletic men who have the pride and determination to be champions. It's quite a compliment really.

My turn to feed the troll. WP you are absolutely on the money when you point out that, yes, we do pay medical bills through our taxes which I believe are higher than yours. What we should be comparing is out of pocket cost for health care as a percentage of after tax income. Here in BC a single self-employed person who earns $50,000 per year pays out of pocket medical premiums of 1.73% of his/her after tax income. And before you compare that to the same hypothetical person in the US remember that you have to compare a health insurance plan that has no caps, no limits, no exclusion of pre-existing conditions.

On a note regarding anecdotal stories, when our PM was in DC a couple of weeks ago our news media were talking to Americans about their health care. They talked to a woman who thought she had an excellent plan. That is until she was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis. So severe that she required multiple joint replacements and had one of her legs partially amputated. She is now in a position where the key factor in determining her future medical treatments is financial and she is deep in debt and facing bankruptcy. If that's having good health care I'll pass.

I do not listen to what the opposed Republicans say- they are trying to scare us into not going forward with this. We are way down on the list for healthcare- NUMBER 37. I was without healthcare like so many millions out there. I have seen the outrageous health care costs from working in the field for lets see...35 years. High cost, not so great health care, rushed Dr. visits, mis- diagnosis, amputation of the wrong limb or breast, Medicare and Medicaid waste, VA waste in spending and mis-used dollars. The opposer's want to keep it like it is... which will do what? Sorry- this really gets to me- and listening to the media these days makes it worse.
