The eDrama around here is loathsome to new members like me.

Someone is leaving because because other members either disagree or don't completely agree with their perspective on a specific world-affairs event. Is this really a big deal? It happens all the time on the intertubes. I've seen some real star members of other group-oriented sites leave, particularly ones that try and give ultimatums to "be more like what I want you to be or else", but the site lived on just fine without them.

Good interactive websites evolve and change in both membership and atmosphere as time passes. They must, because they are part of the internet culture which also changes over time (and Videosift is particularly affected by this, otherwise we'd still be seeing Numa Numa and All Your Base all over the friggin' sift).

I'm totally with gwiz here.

Farhad, some input on your subscription suggestion: I haven't experienced this place enough to want to pay to be here - it's fun so far but still has to prove itself to me, and the ad revenue that I am contributing to through my viewcount helps drive my "contribution" for now, unless Videosift indicates it's not enough to pay for the place. I wouldn't sign up to post just yet if I had to pay to.

I'd expect that if you were to introduce a must-pay-to-sift model, this place would run the risk of stagnating rather quickly with a few core members keeping it alive and discussing the good ol' days like a bunch of bored seniors clustered around a single cup of coffee at the mall and rehashing their operation and guessing who's gonna die next. Dunno for sure if that would happen, but I've seen it occur elsewhere.

Videosift IS better than YouTube with respect to its comments. The spam is generally more clever and light-hearted, there's occasional insightful debate, and there's very little "lol u fag0t".

You don't have to hear it over and over again for it to be true.

I think among the recent played-out internet memes, I like Rick-Roll the best. I still laugh whenever I get Rick-Rolled. It's all about that drum intro. If we're talking all-time then I will always love All Your Base.

Well, in regards to global warming, yes they can. Especially since the global warming side has taken some serious blows recently. Being faced with evidence that contradicts warming trends, the retraction of the IPCC report that started the whole thing by some of its authors, record increases in Arctic sea ice, discovery of deep sea volcanic vents causing ice melting in the caps, and an increasing number of climatologists bailing on the idea, global warming has hit the back burner. It also no longer seems to be proper to call it global warming since we stopped warming about a decade ago. So, now it's proper to refer to it as climate change to cover all your bases. I sat on the fence reading up on global warming for a few years. I've come to the conclusion that it is false, although we should definitely still strive to clean up after ourselves since it is entirely possible to make your immediate area an absolute crap hole. I see the constant pushing of global warming and climate change in the face of contradictory evidence to be another excuse for extensions of government control and regulation. People can buy as many hybrids as they want for all I care, as long as we don't hit lows of government intereference like in England where people are being fined for having too much garbage. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1041098/Families-break-bin-rules-overfill-110-fine--drunken-yob-receive.html Although the forced change to the mercury filled bulbs are a start towards making an unnecessary shift just for the sake of feeling environmentally responsible.

You also took the time to explain yourself, so I think you have all your bases covered.
