New Rule: Distinction Deniers

JiggaJonson says...

There are a few times in this thread where I would describe a lack of appreciation for degrees of the term "forced"

Part of why I don't consider what happened to me to be rape is because I had a mouthful of tea at the time.

Getting burned by hot tea because the other person doesn't react exactly the way I want when I want them to is a risk I was willing to take when we started pouring tea into each other's mouths. A touch too much or too little is to be expected given the situation.

I'd argue that only after that touch-and-go phase is where the place that "the line" gets crossed, and I'm annoyed at the lack of thorough acknowledgement that errors get made in those moments.

Fuck, girls go fucking crazy when they are climaxing. They dun like break a dude's dick in half and shit. Sheeeeeeeet.

You're overcomplicating it.

Wordless assent is fine, especially in an already committed relationship.

The issue here is less about consent and more about refusal.

If you're feeding each other and someone wants you to stop, just stop. Ok, if you're literally pouring tea into them at the time, it's not going to be instantaneous, but it's still pretty clear that they're no longer into it. Especially if they say "no" or try to push you away.

This isn't rocket science.

X-47B First Arrested Landing

kulpims says...

in short - yes. though the X-47B is unmanned, it is not a drone. instead, it’s an autonomous aerial vehicle, which means that it flies missions according to pre-programmed instructions rather than being under constant control by a ground-based pilot. this first-ever arrested landing was the highlight of three months of shore-based carrier testing, which included precision approaches, touch-and-go landings, and precision landings

Was it landing autonomously?

The Big Bang Theory #00x00 - Unaired Test Pilot

Historian1986 says...

I liked the overall look and feel of the unaired pilot. The apartment that Lenard and Sheldon share is an academic's dream in my opinion; dark, cluttered with books and papers, a compact and sparsely furnished social area, a fireplace that adds character to the room and walls adorned with numerous thought structuring white boards. The apartment in the ongoing show struck me as very bright and open; I generally don’t like bright and open, though it does provide more room for physical comedy. The character development was touch and go but in the end I believe Lenard needs no improvement in either the unaired pilot or the ongoing show. I believe that Sheldon's character would benefit from a combination of traits from both the unaired pilot and the current show, most notably the social openness balanced by his high levels of humorous narcissism. I don't believe there is a way to improve on the lead female role, I don't particularly care for either Katie or Penny and find the presence of a female character that is so overly ditzy insulting. What is needed is a smart (PhD level) female character that possesses a keen knowledge of both her field (possibly Anthropology, History or Psychology) and popular culture. This would serve to distinguish her from both the Katie/Penny character and also Amy and Bernadette; both characters that have seemingly no knowledge or an air of condescension concerning popular culture.

I Am Not Moving - Occupy Wall Street

NetRunner says...

I'm not sure what to make of this video, really. Some thoughts, in no particular order:

In Syria, Bahrain, Libya, and Iran, the mere act of protesting was declared illegal. IIRC, in all four of those countries, violence was the only police response to protests, and in all four countries it escalated to police/military/paramilitary forces firing bullets at protesters.

That's not happening here.

In Egypt, the police didn't really crack down on the protests themselves. There were attempts to use agents provocateur to provoke violence to give the police some cause to shut down the protests, but that never worked. There were some touch and go moments when it seemed that the police were going to try to storm Tahrir square to forcibly end the protest, but that never happened (largely because the military stepped in and made sure that didn't happen). The result of the protests and accompanying strikes ended up toppling the Mubarak regime.

In America, things are a bit different. People who want to uphold the status quo want the protests ignored, and they know that violence and arrests will only help the protesters in the long run. So the OWS people have had to resort to a little provocation of their own. It's noble and self-sacrificing that they're doing so, and it does make the police look bad when they arrest people for innocuous sounding things (like directly protesting in on the steps of the NYSE itself, or blocking a bridge), but they're intentionally doing so to draw attention. It's called civil disobedience.

So really, I'm left a bit confused by the video. The title of the video is "I'm not moving", but spends a ton of time highlighting police violence at the protests here and abroad (and it's mostly abroad). When they finally show the guy who says he's not moving, they don't show him getting arrested or beaten, they just hear him begging to get arrested, and seemingly being ignored.

So is the point "I have a point to make that I'm willing to get arrested for" (i.e. "I'm Not Moving") or is the point "Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are hypocritical tyrants because the police arrest me when I intentionally try to get arrested to make a point."

You can't really have it both ways.

Boeing C-17 Bounces Off Runway

Guardian-X says...

I'm guessing it was just a touch-and-go. He kicked up the throttle immediately, and if it wasn't planned then it may have been coming in too hot. Edit-Oops, what CaBhaal said, I had the video open for a long time before seeing his comment.

A320 nearly crashes during crosswind approach

What do you do after something like that? Divert to another airport? But wind like that is hardly a localized situation.

Storm was all over central Europe on Saturday, so he really did not have a choice.

If the wind is steady it is usually not a problem I guess.
The problem in this case was the strong gust of wind right before he touched down. Hamburg tower reported that they had a few touch and go landings on saturday but they have never seen anything like this before.

Is Paul Mcartney Dead?

snoozedoctor says...

This theory came back to life recently when Heather Mills was asked to comment on him.
"He's a dead man."
Michael Jackson (aka Killer), is also rumored to have made an attempt on him back in the 80s, when he bought his song catalog, causing Paul to nearly have a stroke. I understand it was touch and go for several weeks.

In reply to your comment:
I like how about 3.35, he says that a test plan took off 10 times, and landed 13 times???? something about that doesn't add up.. just like the rest of the b******t in this documentary.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, a plane can take take off only once, yet via "touch-and-go" landings I can land it 50 times and it would still be considered that I took off only once yet landed it 50 times. In your pilot log book it would be recorded as 1 takeoff and 50 landings.

Everything is not as black and white as you would believe it is.

The New New VideoSift (Sift Talk Post)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Thanks SG, The bug team was Lucky760 James and myself. I think it's running pretty smoothly now, but it was touch and go for a while.

Our server load is a bit higher with all of the extra stuff, but we just upgraded (again) so I think our new beefy server will handle the load.

There are a few more things to add, one fairly significant new feature, and then I think we will be done for a while.
