Sarah Palin Crashes & Burns

poolcleaner says...

^ @ChaosEngine: I think she makes perfect sense -- she just has some hang ups in regards to her own gender. (She's also really dumb.)

"Leave Hillary Alone, Bullies"

Sarcasm. Reference to an old meme regarding Britney Spears?

"Aww, c'mon guys, give her a break. Anyone can be out of commission.... for weeks on end... whilst in the heat of battle for the highest office in the land. No press conferences for nearly a year? No scheduled campaign events for days upon days? No statements, no answers, no accountability, no problem. Layin' low to run out the clock before November, but you're SEXIST for noticing it."

Sarcasm and calling out Hillary and the media for using misogyny and sexism as a crutch rather than ignoring the sexism like a good woman should in this man's world. Like Palin, who mans up and doesn't let her emotions show. (I don't believe in this viewpoint, but I believe Palin does.)

"And you're MISOGYNIST for questioning a female's fitness. Good thing media didn't hound the crap out of '08 candidate John McCain for his decades-old military medical records or I'd guess them to be hypocrites."

More sarcasm in regards to feminism, while calling out the hypocrisy of the media going after McCain's medical records, but excusing Hillary.

"Leave Hillary alone! All that email-evidenced yoga, and wedding planning, and cookie-baking-grandma-duty wears you out. Believe you me."

Sarcasm and misogyny in the form comparing Hillary's email scandal to typical female activities such as practicing yoga, wedding planning and baking cookies. Not exactly sure why she's focused on making fun of typical female activities. Palin clearly has some emotional issues she needs to work out. Maybe she wishes she was a man? lol. Anyway!

"Heck, even those of us claiming to be fit as a (seasoned?) fiddle, hit bumps in the wellness road. Even I. Especially I. (Remember Piper's middle name is "Grace"; mine isn't.)"

Is she referring to Trump as the "seasoned" fiddle? No clue.

Also not sure who Piper is... Piper Laurie from Twin Peaks? Piper Wright from Fallout 4? Pied Piper? Likening the Pied Piper to Jesus Christ, who by "grace" she is saved? Help me out here.

"Rock-running recently, I tripped over my own two feet and crashed & burned face-first. I recovered with the doc's SuperGlue, and now any man who asks "what happened?" I'll refer to as just a mean ol' SEXIST bully."

I think she's appealing to men by referring to stitches as "SuperGlue", sorta like duct tape fixing everything. She should have said the doc's duct tape. That would have been funny, actually. But for real, I think Palin may have an inner desire to be a man and not a "weak" woman.

"Glad for Hillary's protective media's precedence. The next woman running for POTUS has no need to answer to much of anything, for we've got weddings to plan, and Down Dogs to do, and cookies in the oven! So just leave us alone, boys."

Almost full circle to earlier in the message where she lists a bunch of typical female activities: wedding planning, yoga ("Down Dogs" = downward facing dog, a pose in yoga), and baking cookies.

I guess she's claiming Hillary is just a whiny girl so she might as well just do a bunch of dumb girl stuff. Meanwhile, Palin is doing "man" stuff like jumping on rocks, then she goes to the hospital, gets her head superglued together and back out on her feet doing more man stuff.

I'm gonna go bake some cookies now. That sounds like the best idea Palin's ever inspired me to do. Bake some motherfuckin' cookies.

Also, everyone should practice yoga and if you're going to get married, doesn't everyone help with the planning on some level? Why is Palin so dumb?

Except she didn't say that. For context, the actual text was:

I mean, yeah, you can parse it and rephrase it into something approaching normal human communication, but it's a bit of a stretch to say that what she wrote "makes sense"

An American Ex-Drone Pilot Speaks Up

A10anis says...

Extremely simplistic and naive guy, but he has delivered a great piece of propaganda to the enemy.
He sounds like he is leaning toward the Noam Chomsky school of thought ie; "its all the Wests fault, if we just stopped being so nasty, these lovely people would leave us alone..."

Damn it, why couldn't this come out 30 years ago when I was the right age for it? I mean, just because there wasn't CG back then is no excuse!

As for the premise, couldn't we just offer them all our quarters to leave us alone?

Horrible Histories - History of the British Empire

rychan says...

Colonization doesn't have to imply genocide. It often has, I agree. But the British colonization of India was not so violent. There are claims that Indian famines resulted from British mismanagement, but there are also historians who think India benefited (and still does) from the British institutions, and that the Indians were often willing partners (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Raj#Economic_impact ).

In the Americas there are scores of documented atrocities against the native population. But the worst killer, by far, was unintentional -- disease ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_history_of_indigenous_peoples_of_the_Americas#Depopulation_from_disease ). These outbreaks would have happened regardless of military aggression (and it did, which is what made the initial military conquests so easy). Europeans had unknowingly built themselves into amazing germ warfare machines over 100 generations. There's no way that the contact between the new world and old world has a completely happy ending. The germ theory of disease ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germ_theory_of_disease ) was not accepted; people didn't know better.

But consider this hypothetical situation -- there is an alien race with technology vastly superior to ours. They are 500 years more advanced than we are. Would you rather a) the aliens leave us alone completely, not making contact or b) the aliens non-violently assume high level control of much of the planet, while leaving nations largely autonomous (Analogous to the British "conquest" of India).

I would absolutely choose b. In Earth's history it's not likely that many cultures had such a clear cut choice, but the cultures that stayed isolated and backwards have suffered for it.

Massacre in Iran. Protesters Beaten. Thrown Off Bridge.

dannym3141 says...

Unfortunately, if we hadn't ruined the idea of the US/UK as a peacekeeping force by going blindly into iraq in a quest for oil, we'd still have the ability/opportunity to walk into a middle eastern country and claim that we were doing it "for the people".

Hell, i'll even be cynical and say our governments probably wouldn't go into any country "for the people" anymore, britain especially has lost the credibility we had around the mid 1900's to stand up for international injustice. So maybe we wouldn't have done it anyway, but now we don't even have the choice.

It'd take a LOT more than this to push things to the point where the UK/US could go near to helping out with force. Especially with the leading parties in Iran free to go around saying "Nope, nothing to see here, this is Britain's fault, stop scaremongering. There's no riots and no unrest, just leave us alone."

The trouble is, i'm sure many are crying out for help in that country, i'm sure many would like THE RIGHT KIND of help. But they wouldn't trust us to give it. And worse still, they can't even ask us for it, because the leadership they're protesting against is controlling everything right now. It's gonna take a serious escalation before anyone can "try to help".

I think you're a complete asshole for the way you analzyed me (incorrectly). I've put you in the same category as qualm, quantumushroom and Billoreilly after this comment.

It's clear that you don't like anyone that has an unbiased opinion or analyzes what's being said in the political realm that doesn't admonish what you so dearly love.

I at least have the decency to not judge you without knowing enough facts. However... the stereotype of me on here has made it quite easy for you now hasn't it? Thanks for the no vote and slanderous opinion of me. Anyone that comments on my vids and doesn't vote gets a black mark in my books. And furthermore.. those that paint an incorrect picture of me (especially when I'm posting raw news without opinions) gets a major red mark. This is why I equate you with the likes of that of Billo, qualm and quantumushroom. Congrats. Your vids will no longer get votes from me.

I can't believe I actually had a great deal of respect for you. You've shattered that with this comment. Jerk.

I'm a glass-half-full sort of guy. I hear this, and go "I know what he means, the people who have a beef with us around the world probably won't wait until September to try and knock Obama off his stride, but he'll probably handle that fine."

A glass-half-empty sort of guy hears this and says "oh shit, terrorists are coming, why can't they just leave us alone, I hope they don't do anything near here".

You are the someone-probably-replaced-my-half-glass-of-tasty-beverage-with-a-half-glass-of-poison-how-do-I-dispose-of-it-without-them-knowing-I-know kind of guy, who sees this and says "Colin Powell is in on a plot to stage a domestic terror attack, and he just admitted it on national television, by accidentally expressing foreknowledge of the date!"

Couldn't have been a rhetorical device, since the 21st or 22nd would be the 2 days immediately after Obama's inauguration...

Just under 3 weeks until we get to see whether this is accurate or not, since we have a date certain to mark on our calendars.

Unless they changed the date since Powell blabbed it on MTP...

Curses, foiled again!

Heard any good jokes lately? (Possibly NSFW) (Comedy Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

A local pastor and his son were fishing alongside of an old gravel road, when an unfamiliar car drove past. The preacher yelled "Turn yourself around before it's too late" and held up a sign saying "The End is Near!"

The driver didn't appreciate the sign and shouted: "Leave us alone, you religious nut!".

All of a sudden they heard a big splash, and the boy said to the pastor: "You think maybe we should write 'Bridge Out!' on that sign?'".

English hornets (wasps) scare the living crap out of me

spoco2 says...

>> ^xxovercastxx:
Thank you, Zonbie, for being a voice of reason in this thread. The European hornet is not aggressive unless defending a nest and the males are not even equipped with a stinger.
Spoco, the European wasp and hornet are not the same animal. The wasp is as you describe: aggressive, frail and interested in human food. The hornet is none of these.
Excluding those with allergies, I don't get the terror people have of bees/wasps/hornets/etc. Being stung is really not a big deal. Certainly no reason to call for a hunt to extinction.

Thanks for the clarification overcast, that does clear things up a bit. I don't dislike bees at all, they leave us alone, it's the aggressiveness of the European wasps I hate, they damn well chase you around (and the kids, I predominantly am trying to keep them from the kids, I'd rather not have a screaming kid on my hands). If they just left us alone I'd be fine with them, but they really are aggressive bastards, and their sting hurts enough that I'd rather them not be around.

Plus they're introduced to this country, so we should be able to eradicate them with impunity... (ok, don't extend that too far else all people in this country other than Aboriginals fit in the same basket)

Fluoride will Fuck you up.

Doc_M says...

A week late and no one's listening, but Rembar and I support the idea of siting original research rather than web-washed re-sitation of selected data for the purpose of defending a conclusion rather than defending a hypothesis. Continuing to site a web-site that is so plainly agenda-driven just doesn't win the argument.

Personally I don't think water fluoridation is necessary anymore and ought to be stopped if only to save money. At one point it may have helped people with dental health, but now basically every tooth-paste has enough to maintain said health... and too much is not good.

The argument got dirty simply because the accusation is so hyped that it is sold as something akin to heroine rather than a very marginal health risk. Similar mistakes have been made (and aggravated by media hype) such as the "dangers" of several of our sugar substitutes. Yes, they are not ideal and are not as healthy as advertised, but the studies that site them as dangerous do so with the disclaimer that enormous doses were used in the studies in animal models. Enormous doses are not relevant to normal human consumption unless you drink a 24 of diet Coke every day.

Same goes for fluoride. A bit each day is good. A crap-ton of it each day is not good. That about sums up the whole freaking debate. If it's in your toothpaste, you don't need it in your water. If it's in your water, you don't need it in your toothpaste. If it's in both, don't worry about it. The worry alone is ironically more dangerous to your health [via immune suppression] than the fluorine. lol.

If people didn't get so hyped and angry about such things, it'd be much easier to study them honestly and discover the truth. It only muddies the waters to make it a fiery "it'll kill us all and it's all your fault" argument. That doesn't help anyone. I wish the media and politicians would just keep they're dang head out of science. Leave us alone and let us do our fargin jobs.

Fight between some crazy homeless guy and Shrek on Hollywood Boulevard. Right before I started taping the crazy guy shoved Shrek into the crowd (the crazy guy dropped his beer on the sidewalk and it broke open) also prior to taping this Shrek asked the guy repeatedly to go away and leave "us" alone meaning the other characters that he was trying to pick a fight with.
