I only read relevant/important news on the internet, and (mercifully) only heard about this crap today. Has Paris Hilton spoke up on the issue yet? That's about the only thing that could add to the worthlessness of this as a news item.

That question was the best thing that ever happened to her. And now she won't even be able to whine about being a martyr because trump decided not to fire her for clear breach of contract for doing work with NOM.

Hilton, Prejean, NOM and Trump are all just milking this, I would not be surprised if this turned out to have been planned from the get go.

What kind of sadist authoritarian believes violence best represents us? Is this what our generation's legacy should be? One where we tolerated violence administered by our government and thinly veiled in the flag of patriotism, freedom and national security?

I don't care if these people are "enemy combatants". They're not my enemy, and they're not combating me, and this war doesn't represent me even if I'm forced to help pay for it. Philosophers have identified a pandemic! Philosophy is an area of academia that has no use for statistics or evidence, because they can just say things and that makes it true!

"Thinkers" have been hand-wringing for decades, centuries, and millenium about the horrific corruption of our youth that will surely lead to the collapse of civilization Real Soon.

In order to be taken seriously by the scientific community, these experts would need to actually look at the data, like any professional would, before they declare a pandemic. After they did that, if there was really a pandemic, they would have to do a lot more work (boring!) before implying the cause is rap music and Paris Hilton movies.

Yeah probably a bit risky. But I would do it to get my astronaut wings in a heartbeat. The fact that space tourism is finally becoming a reality is in itself an amazing thing. Though I know - it's not Earth orbit - or the Space Hilton - it's a step in the right direction.

There's plenty of others, of varying quality (Have I Got News For You, Mock the Week and at times Never Mind the Buzzcocks are good). I was wondering the other day why all the quiz-coms (that's what our schedulers seem to want us to call them) are British. It's a simple format, get a topic (current affairs, public opinion, music, whatever), a host who's good at improvised comedy and several similarly minded guests and make sure all of them have an IQ of above 50. 8 out of 10 cats fails occasionally on the last requirement (Kelly Osbourne, for example). I don't know if it's been tried in the US or elsewhere. I can imagine American producers getting Kevin Federline and Paris Hilton as guests and then wondering why it bombs.

You have got The Big Bang Theory, which makes up for a lot.
