Billy On The Street - Do Gay People Care About John Oliver?

Daily Show - WikiLeaks Revelations About Hillary Clinton

artician says...

I stopped watching the Daily Show to the point where I forgot it was even on a few weeks ago. I really, truly like Trevor Noah, but he's utterly failed to bring anything new of value to media.

Jokes Seth Can't Tell

Seems like Seth Meyers is trying to make a home for Daily Show fans who aren't feeling it now that Jon is gone - I like his political stuff.

Jon Stewart Takes Over Colbert's Late Show Desk

kingmob says...

That was fucking brilliant...
He used to slip up occasionally on the daily show...like a dad slips up.

and they let it go.
but he let it loose and they chopped it...live that's fucking skill.

"Stephen Colbert" appears on the Late Show

kingmob says...

It's funny when he first broke off I didn't think he could carry a show...now he has a completely different show...

But I miss his election coverage on the Daily Show.
Election night he would spout so much believable nonsense.

Samantha Bee - Meet Gary Johnson

RFlagg says...

OMFG! While I'm not a Libertarian, it's nice to see somebody who actually gets these sort of interviews and goes with it. Anytime I've seen interviews on Daily Show, Last Week Tonight or any of those shows, I'm always like, don't they know what sort of show they are being interviewed with/for? Now if only we can get the media to start giving Jill Stein some airtime too...

Daily Show - Sexism on the Soccer Field

Barbar says...

Late addition, but I've seen something relevant recently.

Here's a link to a video that better explains what's up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72UPxDFPKDs

In short, the world cup for women is held one year after the world cup for men. So men have a boom year, then women have a boom year, then they each have a couple so so years. What has happened is that they have compared the earnings in a women's world cup year to give them something to stand on. Obviously this makes it seem like women earn more. They completely ignore the previous year, which shows men vastly out earning women, to a degree far surpassing the difference in wages. Completely dishonest propaganda. The Daily Show has really fallen far since the loss of Mr Stewart.

A Brief History Of Laughing At Trump

RedSky says...

People talk about how much dollar value media exposure he got for free, but I think it's more the lack of criticism by networks afraid of losing access to him. That and being afraid of alienating the viewers who support him.

Instead you get the usual news equivocation of opposing views as equally valid and the treating of his policy ideas as serious proposals no matter how loony.

Similar to the Daily Show under Stewart, polit-satire shows like Colbert are able to get away with more direct criticism because it's under the umbrella of 'it's comedy, so everything is fair game' so I wouldn't equate him with more general TV news coverage.

Plenty of written coverage has been very good (Economist, Vox, hell even Fox had some good criticism):

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/05/03/any-republican-who-thinks-its-better-to-elect-trump-than-hillary-needs-their-head-examined.html

But obviously that has a much narrower reach or effect on publicity.

I wonder if civic minded entertainers like Colbert regret all the free air they gave Trump now. I wonder if they feel a little culpable.
