You make it sound like *cheese is a bad thing. I think it's a badge of quality. I think the hallmarks are the smooth sound and sweet almost over-production. Major key changes, Early synths and real strings, over embellishment of horns, several changing rhythm structures...damn, this IS a good song. It's cheese for sure though.

OK, I haven't weighed in for a while. I'm still with the "get over it" camp. But, at the risk of being labeled a "bleeding heart", the comments in this thread have brought to mind lyrics from an old 10cc album of mine, "Bloody Tourists", which, by the way, I recommend....

I friggin love 10cc. Wonderful cover.

10cc are (were) incredibly talented. Their music was so good it was easy not to listen to the lyrics which were always very interesting. Very good at tempo changes. I would urge you to get their material and really listen, you discover a whole new appreciatation.
