What books are you reading? (Books Talk Post)

Last narrative book I've read was 1984. It was for a philosophy class. Other than that, I've read a lot of Michael Crichton's (RIP) books like Congo, Andromeda Strain, Prey, State of Fear, 2nd Jurassic Park book (forgot what it's called).

Also strongly recommend Tom Clancy's Without Remorse followed by Rainbow Six. Great stuff. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is also great. Might have to pick that one pack up since I don't remember much about it, been 11 years.

The Earth is hollow and there are people living there!

See, I always end up buying into this kind of stuff. I mean, I'm willing to believe that at one time, there were deep mantle caverns and such and they all got squashed with the pressure and size change of the Earth, but this... I dunno.

I mean, it's really easy for any semi-intelligent person to laugh off, but at the same time... wasn't it just a few hundred years ago that the world's greatest minds were insistent on the fact that the Earth was flat?

I say: let us look for our 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea style world. But my advice? If there's a hole leading to the dutch-oven style innards of this planet... you might want to look for a hole not covered in ice.

Walk around old building & creepy tunnels at the south pole

coupland says...

It's fascinating to read books like "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and realize that the South Pole was until very recently the stuff of science fiction novels. In a single century we both discovered the south pole and explored the furthest reaches of the solar system.
