Mexico's southern border is porous, but not for lack of trying. Mexican authorities have police and military stationed there, though many still get in via bribery.

What are you referring to in this comment, out of curiosity? I know they have problems with criminal gangs that prey on non-Mexican citizens at the Guatemalan border, but other than that I thought it was about as porous a border as ours with Mexico.

Iraqis deserve the same chance at self-governance that Americans too often take for granted. It's possible their tribal hatreds will ruin their fledgling democracy, but I doubt it. If things were so wonderful and "orderly" under Saddam, they would've already elected (!!!) a new tyrant.
