Ah, makes total sense.
And what about the other two ideas (promotes and downvotes)
I think those could sharpen the recommend tool quite a bit.
Or would that complicate the algorhythm too much?

Hi Maatc-

Thanks for the thoughts. The reason we didn't prepopulate the recommended listing with all vote data is it's just technically infeasible.

We have more vote records than any other in our database. In fact there are over 2 million. The last time I did something just to touch each record took about 2 hours, and the recommendation engine is so intensive that it would have take maybe 6 hours to process them all because it would have potentially processed all votes for every member many times.

I'm probably going to make recommendations auto-delete after a certain time in accordance with these poll results.

Hey Lucky,

just a few thoughts on how to further improve the accuracy of the "recommended" algorhythm:

Before I started voting in VS 4.0 the list was of course empty, but that made me wonder why not every video I ever upvoted before the update was used to already determine a list for me. After all the data is all there, no? Does it only have to be recent votes?

Also maybe a users downvotes could be used to leave out clips that are similar to the ones downvoted on.

And last: Clips a user promoted or "qualitied" also give a very good indication of taste and preference, so maybe that data could also be used somewhere.

Cheers and love your work,
