Tycho - Adrift

Some guy engineers his own 9/11 experiments

Bidouleroux says...

What astounds me is how those guys are trying to find a common answer to an uncommon event. It's like if Tycho Brahe, when observing his first supernova, just said "It must be fireworks in space!" and then tried replicating the supernova by launching fireworks with the right combination of colors. I'm sure he'd be able to do something that looks like SN 1572 eventually, but it would have been all for naught because supernovae are not fireworks in space.

Any Sifters bought an iPad? (Blog Entry by dag)

gwiz665 says...

I liked Tycho, of Penny Arcade,'s comment:

" I can accomplish virtually any electronic task that needs accomplishing with the iPhone, and do it anywhere, a statement of unassailable fact that the new iPhone imbues with even greater truth.

There might come a day where I don't feel like a twat using an iPad in a public place, but that day isn't here yet. It's a little too ostentatious, like toting around a scepter. I don't like it. The only thing it can do that my iPhone can't is be more expensive."

XBOX Live Moderator Power Mad And Awful

Raigen says...

And here's Tycho from Penny Arcade's take on it, and it is beautiful:

"It was a lot of fun watching this story mutate as the day progressed, warping in its essential shape, culminating in something like justice. A brigand has tasted his own medicine, and it is bitter.

His Twitter is a hoot - he taunts Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling about the ability to alter game behavior at will, and in the very next message attempts to seek the developer's sympathy. It's like, wow, douche. Is lion taunting statistically correlated with lion attacks? Do some math, motherfucker. He's an utterly unrepentant hacker, yet he wonders what strange force keps gets his boxes banned. It would be like if I'd made a reputation for myself entering local cafes, slipping into the back to shit directly on their hot grills. And then, when I came back the next day, they told me to leave - even if I hadn't managed to shit on anything during that particular visit! Come to terms with the idea that there is a point beyond which you are not worth the price of your subscription.

There are times during the video when "The Pro," a moderator on the service and the supposed villain, sounds like a real bastard - but I've got sufficient life experience to recognize the underlying waveform in his audio stream.

He is using his Dad Voice.

When you and I log into the service of our choice, we can log off at any time. Try to imagine a world where you could not escape these people, where it was your damnation in a literal sense to stew in a crockpot of social disease. Maybe he should be nicer to people who claim to have fucked his grandmother until she was destroyed by the process. That's something he can work on, maybe. I'm sure there's an informative pamplet he can peruse. In the meantime, let's get that statue made."

And he actually told MajorNelson over Twitter that he should expect a "class action suit" for saying his video of The Pro was edited. Wow.

E3 2009 - Project Natal: Lionhead Milo Project

Sketch says...

This bit from www.penny-arcade.com and the ever eloquent Tycho reminded me of you guys:

"Peter Molyneux has no credit with me - he must always pay in advance, cash only. I am completely impervious to him, so when he says that he's invented some kind of digital boy this firm assertion is refracted into harmless light. Illusions of the kind he proposes are tremendously fragile - it's hard enough to maintain them in raw text, without the idiosyncrasies of the nested recognition systems in play with Milo. Please understand: I love the future, and I long to live there. I want very much to simulate a cognizant digital imp. But this man has broken my heart so many times that it can no longer contain love."

Sarah Palin: A bad choice but... I'd still... you know?

Guitar Hero with Real Guitars

BoneyD says...

This looks like an interesting game, hopefully where people who've had an introduction on Guitar Hero will head next.

I think the resentment towards the latter is a little unfounded, however. The game introduces people to the instrument, who would probably have never picked one up on their own. I don't see how this is a negative thing. Do people who play DDR not count as dancers in some form because they're following prompts and not designing their own moves? To be good at all of Guitar Hero, you need to develop something of a musical sense, to play the difficult sequences with the correct cadence or syncopation.

Tycho at Penny-Arcade made a post on the subject recently which enunciates this perspective far better than I have. I guess my point is if you can play genuine guitars, then great. Perhaps Guitar Hero is just not for you. Let people enjoy their escapist glory before an imaginary audience. That is, after all, why we play games.

CALL OF DUTYYYY!!!! *throws up the horns* (Videogames Talk Post)

Thylan says...

Seams Tycho likes it lots but Gabe doesn't. I wonder how the community at large will spit considering this has other fresh competition: TF2 GofW, H3 etc etc...

Lots for people to choose from

PVP Animated

Farhad2000 says...

I feel strange upvoting this now. Because basically this is a advert for the upcoming PVP show. Still I guess it's worth due to the geek factor.

Hope Penny Arcade follows suit. But not with Gabe and Tycho because everyone will have totally different opinions oh what they should look and sound like, not to mention move. But like with Catsby.
