Digital Combat Simulator: A-10C Warthog - Hilarious gameplay

scottishmartialarts says...

>> ^Skeeve:

A warning from personal experience: this is a "Digital Combat Simulator" and not a game.
I tend to be pretty detail oriented, I like flight sims and love the A-10 but after about 45 minutes of this program I was done.
I think this program could be used as a diagnostic tool to confirm if someone has asperger syndrome.

Eh, it's not that complicated. The quickstart guide and the tutorials tell you all you need to know to start flying missions. Maybe 5 hours total to get up to speed on flying this thing. Many hours more to master the aircraft, but to just get started? Only a few hours and the tutorials are pretty fun too.

Would it be helpful to have a *notadupe invocation? (User Poll by bareboards2)

berticus says...

I believe dupeof invokes were originally diamond level only (and above). Then enough people made a fuss that they couldn't use it that it was changed.

At least that's how I remember it. Could be completely wrong.

Isn't the ability to call a dupe limited to Gold Stars and above? I would expect that these people should know better than to do so out of sheer laziness. lucky760 mentioned that people who do so have that privelage revoked so it seems that the admins are aware of this being a problem.
It's awesome that a discussion like this has resulted in an open, thoughtful conversation and has resulted proposed solution. A lot of people will just get frustrated and say "Fix It!!". It's just nice to see people helping themselves. I work in IS...can't you tell. ;-)
That being said, I would hesitate to turn to a code change as a solution. Could this problem not be solved by other means?
Maybe the admins change permissions to allow only higher levels call a dupe? This means fewer people have the ability, thus fewer occurances of this happening. Perhaps writting a overview/tutorial for members when they are promoted so they truely understand the responsibilities? I like the idea of invoking the discussion as it will get more eyes on the problem. Of course these ideas don't prevent the accidental use of the privilege.
These are just my thoughts. I am still a newb here so please bare with me if I am not understanding the problem.

I also think that instead of calling it *notadupe, we should call it *notafinga.

Sorry...I couldn't resist.

Zero Punctuation: Portal 2

Psychologic says...

I feel like I'm in the minority for loving Portal 2. It isn't as small and crisp as the original Portal, but Portal 2 far exceeds its predecessor in richness and diversity.

As I played through I couldn't help but think of all the non-Portal games I've played, and I really couldn't think of one that was better. This one doesn't have the consistent pace from the previous game but it is always interesting, and that is a rare feat.

Honestly, I think Portal 2 > Portal. They both have their strong points, but I just never felt challenged by Portal... it was 75% tutorial, then it was over. It isn't that Portal 2 is "difficult", but it very creatively forces non-standard problem solving skills. When I look at both games, that is where I see the true quality coming from.

Portal 2 is probably the most enjoyable game I've ever played, and I really don't care if it makes me uncool to say that. =P

Wow! Thanks for the Etch a sketch link especially! How detailed.... Ya, way too much time on their hands... When I was first starting digital painting I watched these tutorials that I thought were in real time. They really discouraged me until I realized they were sped up sometimes 10x!!! I'm so naive...*sigh*
