I don't get hugged enough (Blog Entry by gwiz665)

Deano says...

I'm not that touchy-feely generally. A friend of mine is into these hugs and kiss-goodbyes and it just feels awkward. I mean I'm probably going to see her the next day after all.

My sister is like me. When I try to hug here she tries to squirm out of it.

Weirdo.

Feature suggestion: Sift Pools (Sift Talk Post)

Really, to be concerned about someone's feelings in a forum like this as they relate to rejection or pretermittance is a bothersome thought-adults should be able to deal, and the kiddies are overdue for some valuable life lessons-passive aggression comes to mind as a developmental factor-

Well, I know you don't have much tuck with sensitive comments .
But really, this isn't so much about getting all touchy-feely, as much as it is about loosing potentially interesting new members to the feeling of not getting anywhere because they're not part of the "in crowd".

The folks who want to share videos can make some allies, and my suggestion for these users who may feel ignored or passed-over?? Get creative. There is a world of video content out there, 95 percent of which is craptacular, and unworthy of merit.
True, but I doubt your 95% crap matches my 95% crap. The intersection of our crap sets may not even be that high, since quality and crapiness does seem to be subjective.

The possibilities are limitless here, and longevity and tenacity goes a long way to hoist oneself up in the ranks, if that is your desire
If by "your" you mean mine in particular, then no it isn't. See my response to Obsidianfires comment.

The blog feature, yet to be effectively utilized save for a few users, takes into consideration the pool idea, innit???
Does it? Dunno, never looked at the videosift blogs. But if they aren't fundamentally different from the rest of the blogosphere, they'll not really fit the bill of what I'm suggesting (I want to have groups of people below the global level being able to pool and share videos, a blog is still one person blogering on about something or other). I'll have a look at them tonight, maybe they are.

Pranked NY Councilman: Get the F*ck outta my office!

lavoll says...

the show that it is from is called "rikets røst". A horrible attempt at a satire program.
I like Oddo's reaction. A democratically elected official in his office doesn't have to waste his (and the people he represents) time on this annoying wannabe besserwisser skit.
Of course he could have laughed at the idiotiocness of it all, but he is a new yorker
And I am all for politicians who can say things just like they are. More politicians like him would be great. Don't play the carefull touchy feely can't offend anyone political game, just say things like they the f**k are
(and i am writing this as a norwegian.)

C.S. Lewis, Why God allows pain

detlev409 says...

A couple of things I would contribute that I don't see having been raised in prior comments (I was involved in a similar discussion on reddit the other day, so I'm just going to plagiarize myself):

Most suffering in the world is by our own causing: wars, famine, greed, etc.. If God is to be said to respect free will, then he must allow this to occur.

The suffering that isn't caused by man becomes something else entirely if you look at it in the looooong view. As in, the eternal life promised to Christians in the Bible. Taking that view, death is not final and all suffering is fleeting. Looking at it in that way, one could see the human perspective as being almost infinitely shortsighted, and see the suffering on this mortal plane as serving some kind of greater goal; perhaps a species-wide learning experience.

I would also point out that without suffering, there is no fulfillment in life, and I don't just mean in the touchy-feely sense. Without hunger we do not feed, without the need for air we do not breathe, without death we do not procreate. Suffering puts bounds on our existence, and gives our existence meaning by giving us something to struggle against.

"Technical Virgin" video that got girl fired from PBS (1 of 2, NSFW)

Devlin says...

This seems to just be a bad joke taken too far. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not. Either way, who cares? She's out a job, she'll sue, some touchy-feely group of liberal soft-eyed jurors will listen to the ACLU-provided lawyer, she'll win and get rich, start her own reality talk show, and be a has-been in a year.

I could care less, but I'd have to work too hard at it.
