Tesla Coil Experiments
My father and I build one of these back in 1979....a MUCH LARGER ONE (the coil was 7cm in diameter and 1.5meters tall). Sparks would jump up to 6cm (or more at times) from the top of the coil and the sides of the entire 1.5 meter coil. When we turned off the light, the entire thing would glow surrounded by a blue plasma. We'd also have 5 or 6 kids hold light bulbs and on one end someone would recieve the spark and they'd all glow while we held hands. We could also keep our hands just a couple of inches apart and sparks would shoot from our fingers and braces...it was really fun and wild! Couldn't do it nowadays though....if I was 10 yrs old again w a tesla coil in the garage my father wouldn't let neighborhood kids near it...we'd get SUED.
