You're More Beautiful Then You Think

rebuilder says...

Anyone remember that experiment a while ago where people were shown a selection of pictures of faces and asked to grade them on perceived beauty? The faces were procedurally composited from photos of different people, and the results seemed to indicate the more generic the face, the better the beauty score it received.

Now, a sketchbook artist session, AFAIK, is a back-and-forth process, where the artist draws something and the person doing the describing asks for adjustments - wider nose, eyes closer together etc. - until the result seems close enough. I suspect we can all describe ourselves much more accurately in such a process than we can random strangers we've never seen before. The stranger's description is likely to be much more generic than our own, and given the aforementioned experiment, therefore more beautiful.

Any Sifters bought an iPad? (Blog Entry by dag)

I got one last week and love it. Good browsing, great e-book reader, fun games, some actually useful productivity apps (e.g., SketchBook Pro), and NetFlix Streaming work great.

It's an appliance and it does what it's suppose to do extremely well.

Incredible new Photoshop tool: Content-Aware Fill

rebuilder says...

Photoshop, how I hate thee... When will someone finally get around to making a decent painting app with just the essentials and a far better interface? Layers, basic blur and sharpen filters, high pass, free transform, curves, levels, a decent brush engine. Reusable masks. A file format that only saves chunks that have changed since the last save. Freeform rulers as seen in Sketchbook pro. Not much else needed. I spend half my time with Photoshop just swearing at it.

TYT: Ralph Lauren Model Fired For Being Too Fat

Sagemind says...

The fashionistas don't have a clue any more what is human proportions, they spend way too much time looking at their deluded sketchbook images.

I'm so glad the anime artists don't take up designing out clothes.

Wow, thats so bizzare and really quite insulting. Copyright laws are getting insane. (as if they weren't before, but I didn't think they could get worse.) It seems absolutely ridiculous to me that they wouldn't allow you to bring a Sketchbook to an Art Gallery

I can walk into any art gallery this very minute, take a picture of any of the many works of art walk out and print out pretty reasonable copies of the work. I'm clearly not committing theft since the original stays where it is.

nothing against your argument but I just want to say that there are a lot art galleries who do not allow people to take any sort of picture. Including hand draw copies. I was in the Philadelphia museum of art and they wouldn't let me carry in a sketch book to this one exhibit because of potential "copyright infringement", stupidest thing ever I couldn't sketch my own interpretation of art. haha I really don't know what to make of such a situation...

The Real Story: Iraq Video

Farhad2000 says...

*comedy because it is...

double Speak

The story from the troops has always been that the condition is bad due to mismanagement from above, it's getting worse as troops are being replaced by ungoverned PMC outfits such as Blackwater and Executive Outcomes. They suggestion has been that will they would continue the objective if need be, it's best if if they extradite from Iraq as soon as possible. One of the chief ways they have done is the hearts and minds program combined with a training of the Iraqi Police and National Guard.

Both military organizations coalition forces just disbanded following the end of hostilities, which lead to the mass looting and chaos seen previously. The hearts and minds program is responsible for the 98% of children who are vaccinated.

This was a positive effect, something that would have happened back in 1991 if policies with Iraq were more stringent following the conclusion of the first Gulf war. Arguably the UN was at fault due to restrictions via the oil for food program. The economy simply opened up because the oil for food program was gone, the embargo forced by a no fly zone and trade restrictions was gone. So all those goods and services.

What they are throwing at you are simply the statistics of damage control that was run to fix the shit hole the administration took you, wheres the mention of the smoking gun? The mass wave of propaganda and power point slide shows of chemical tankers and mobile launchers? Wheres the Al Qaeda link? The mention of the fiasco when claiming that Iraq attempted purchase of yellow cake of Nigeria? Which then lead to the outing of Valeria Palme? What about our troops fighting short handed supported by dubious PMCs? Fighting with little to no armour in their vehicles. Like the amount of questions about the actions of this administration is ridiculous. At no point do you feel Bush to be humane because he never says or even alludes that his wrong, alot of republican nuts say its a sign of strength? I don't know what kind of MC Esher sketchbook you came from but that's just ignorant...
