I believe in the case of shot towers, the height of the drip from the cooling water or oil is critical to making a perfect sphere. At terminal velocity I think the air resistance does cause the drip to go out of round.

Google-fu suggests there are no lyrics for this puppy on the intertubes. This is what I've cobbled together so far.
