Dog meets Gopher

Shiba Inus are hard to train - this guy went over the top!

legacy0100 says...

Having owned a Jindo in my life I know how hard it is to train Asian Spitzes. Akida's, Jindo's and Shiba's are all descendants of Asiatic Spitzes, and they are more Wild dogs than domesticated pets. They are incredibly good at hunting and very energetic like the huskies. They are not apartment pets, meaning they need lots of free space to roam around. They are independent minded and get bored of trainings very easily.

For example, if you want to play fetch with them, they'll most likely get bored of the game after two fetches and start playing their own game, like you chasing after them to get the ball back. Same thing with the leash. Once they've escaped the leash they'll start playing 'catch-me-if-you-can' for as long as they want.

Having said all this, this guy in the video must have been one patient man, who gave the dog lots of love to earn its trust to be able to get this much training in. Respect!

Our Jindos do the exact same thing. Husky/Jindo/Shiba inu/Shepherd dogs all need a lot of exercise. They hate being caged up even when they are being locked in space with the size of a living room. They'll chew up the gate and always escape to the larger area.

Is that kitten in the Matrix or what?

The cat clip is from a website in Japan called "Nikoniko Douga." Basically, as the vid plays people can stream their comments across the screen, which is what you're seeing. I have no idea why it's popular, as most of the comments are utter gibberish or typical YouTube-style comment nonsense.

Upvote for Shiba-ken, IMO the best-est dogs in the whole world. They're clever and cute, although they can be a little fickle personality-wise sometimes. I miss Kenta-kun, the Shiba my host family had when I lived in Japan. He knew a ton of commands, like the typical sit, lay down, roll over, shake hands, and speak as well as stranger commands like "sleep" (he'd close his eyes).

Shiba's are awesome. We had one when I lived in Japan by the name of Kenta. Hella intelligent. He knew the commands sit, lay down, beg, shake hands and speak (all in Japanese).

The only thing scary about Shiba's is that they are kind of like cats in some ways. They tend to be very quiet. If they are going to attack, they won't growl or bark first. They'll just pounce, so you have to be careful when you introduce them to new people. I had a friend's Shiba turn on me once. One minute he was happily letting me pet him on the back, the next he took a full-on bite at my hand--no warning at all.
