the most vintage scorpions... 1972

videosiftbannedme says...

While I'm all for early, vintage Scorpions fans enjoying their early stuffc, I'm a post-Lovedrive Scorp fan myself. I missed them by 2 days in San Diego when they recorded World Wide Live; still bums me out to this day.

With all that said, I can also say that I don't know that I'd ever go see them live again. I've seen them twice and they are, without a shred of doubt, the two loudest concerts I've ever been to. (One indoor stadium, one open-air) I KNOW I got some serious hearing damage from those two shows alone.

Roast IX: Who the f**k is this guy? (Parody Talk Post)

dotdude says...

OK, so now we’ve had the “Crying Game.” No OF, we don’t need to see THAT.

Wow, look at all that love displayed here. It just makes you want to choke like when I read the description of your last meal request - all stirred together?!? So, I suppose you’re from the school of thought that believes “it all goes to the same place.” Well I guess it comes down to what you’re used to . . . so did you grow up on casseroles or dumpster diving? At least you know not to mix your poisons. Although I’d have to wonder what a milk- Mountain Dew -Jack Daniels combo would taste like? On second thought, nanh.

Actually, OF, with some of the things said around here, you might want to worry about the passes made at you. Who knows what’s at the other end of your sticky keyboard. Some of them might even think their SiftBot’s gift to the Internet.

Now about that super power you requested, “invisibility” . . . . I believe some sifters may have already granted you that ability. And if they haven’t already, you might just ask them. Wow, you could speak freely. That might get kind of lonely, though, just you and SiftBot talking. Oh wait, you got your girl, too. Y’all could be the three amigos.

Your list of prized possessions should make moving fairly easy. Of course four of them require constant replacing. By now you’ve smoked them already. Let us know when you’re back from the Kwicky Mart.

VideoSift is self-entertainment, eh? I guess your self-entertainment needs to be plugged in – oh wait . . . . Moving on to things you are afraid of . . . wow, you would have to go out of your way to find scorpions or candiru. Since you brought up the candiru and concern for your wiener, didn’t you read your article that you’d have to be urinating in the Amazon River. But then the article argues why that wouldn’t really work either – urine stream velocity and problem of pure urine, or so it says. OK, I don’t want to keep beating this joke and all. No, I wasn’t talking about your . . . nevermind . . .

I’ll leave the donkey in the bathtub alone. It’s just a donkey . . .

OK, I’m still scanning your hodgepodge of information . . . so much to play with, so little time. I have to leave something for the others to mess with.

Next . . .

Scorpion vs. Crayfish

entr0py says...

I guess what makes this cruel and unethical is that it's forced. If this were a nature video of insects fighting on their own in the wild, I might find it interesting. But as it is, to me this is about as distasteful as someone making a video of themselves tearing the legs of a scorpion. Just cruelty for cruelty's sake.

Scorpion vs. Crayfish

gwiz665 says...

I'm against these things being put on for our entertainment. If it happened in nature and was caught on tape then fine, but staged it's barbaric. You'd think we had evolved away from this.

That being said, scorpions don't fuck around. Stung the lobster in the freaking eye.. that's cold.

Mezcal: Myths of the worm! (Obscure Talk Post)

NordlichReiter says...

Mezcal is not tequila, Tequila does not and never will have the worm in it.

It is against mexican law, but the moonshiners make tequila with decoration in the bottles like scorpions, tarantulas, and other ... weird things.

TOP 10 OMGWTF moments from video games

xxovercastxx says...

Playing Doom when it came out was an ongoing OMGWTF moment for me. I think the biggest reason, though, was because I knew nothing about it. The web was young and I didn't have access anyway. I didn't read any gaming magazines. I had literally never heard of Doom or seen a screenshot. One of my classmates brought a few floppy disks in at school one day and handed them to me. I asked what it was and he said, "it's the new Wolfenstein."

Playing the game without any idea of what could happen or what I might see or find brought it to a level that's probably unattainable now. I didn't know what weapons to expect. I didn't know what monsters to expect. I didn't know what the engine was capable of technically, so I had no idea of what sort of traps and secrets and such to expect.

The first time I came face to face with a pinky demon I began yelling, "Holy shit! Holy shit!" out loud. Finding a hidden chainsaw was also quite shocking. I don't think this sort of thing will ever happen again. We know everything about a game long before we ever get to play it now. We know the development decisions, the cut features, the specs and features of the engine.

So yeah, Doom is my #1 OMGWTF videogame, though largely because of the environment it was released in rather than its own doing.

As for the video, I did love the Darth Revan twist and I remember a good deal of gasping the first time we saw Scorpion torch somebody. The COD4 nuke would definitely be on my list if I had played it myself, but I pretty much quit FPS after Quake 3. My friend showed it to me, but I had already heard what happens so it took the awe right out of it.

Scorpions - "I Can't Explain"

videosiftbannedme says...

Excellent cover! I've been a fan of the Scorpions since Lovedrive. Sadly, they seem to have lost their steam in the US over the years. I listened to their latest album and didn't think too much of it since they went "humanitarian" in the mid-1990's. Still love their gold age tunes though - imho, they peaked with Love at First Sting through Savage Amusement.

The VideoSift iTunes Game. (Music Talk Post)

2. Hammerfall - The Champion
3. Yngwie Malmsteen - Andante
4. In Flames - Reflect the Storm
5. Scorpions - Always Somewhere
6. 50 Cent - G-Unit Soldiers - Make sure to crank up the volume for this one!
7. Cher - If I Could Turn Back Time
8. Weird Al - Like a Surgeon
9. Rush - Mr. Soul
10. Leningrad Cowboys - Sauna

In my defense on #6;
If you haven't watched the video: Imported my friends whole music folder.
If you have watched it: I couldn't resist

Uli Jon Roth - Sky Overture (Amazing Guitar Player)

ICUDOO2 says...

Cool! Uli! Orig guitarist in the Scorpions. In the early eighties Yngwie Malmsteen got all sorts of praise and credit for inventing the neo-classical metal style of playing. Few knew ULI JON ROTH had already been doing it for like 10+ years.

Scorpion vs. Crayfish

I'm glad you posted the link to the spider vs. scorpion fight, schmawy. I might not have found it otherwise, and I thought it was extremely interesting. Kinda like ninja vs. pirates, but with a verifiable result.

Hey, I wasn't intending to say in any way that this type of content is out-of-bounds for the Sift. And I agree on all points of slippery slopes of logical fallacy. I guess I was too lazy to express my personal distaste for exoskeletal gladiatorial combat, but didn't want to be a driveby downvoter with no explanation.

When I was a kid, I had a glass magnifying dome with a rim around the bottom that left a quarter inch gap between the bottom of the lens and the surface of the table, sealed on all edges. Two insects would enter and we would gleefully watch them tear each other's limbs off. I guess I feel bad about all the fun I had.

I will now wander over to the Mr. Fisk queue and see what there is for clickitys, by way of apology.

Sorry for the downvote Mr. Fisk. Here's another one that I down-voted. There are lots of explanations as to why in the comments section.

No offense schmawy, amigo, although I read through the entire thread and the primary argument against these type of videos seem to consist of nothing more than a slippery slope logical fallacy.

If A happens, then by a gradual series of small steps through B, C,…, X, Y, eventually Z will happen, too.
Z should not happen.
Therefore, A should not happen, either.

True, there are some who found this sort of entertainment truly offensive, and voiced there thoughts/opinions alongside their downvote. However, I checked the upvote count and felt I could garner more upvotes and close the gap between gold and bronze. Also, I found this to be entertaining myself and enjoyed sharing this vid with the sift. Furthermore, the other bug fight from this same japanesebugfights.com did not attract the negativity of the one which you mentioned, and that was the one I used as a comparison to measure if I were crossing the line. In conclusion, I vividly recall the account of a elephant vs. rhinoceros in the historical fiction I, Claudius by Robert Graves, and if there were a video of that, I would be delighted to post it here as well. FYI, the elephant won. To me, it would be more entertaining than soccer. Unless it were that soccer-basketball-like sport the Aztecs played were the losing team were executed. But then again my sense of humor is as twisted as a Texas tornado.
