I'm not enjoying the trolling on the Sift. (Horrorshow Talk Post)

blankfist says...

@bareboards2, well, I've got something to add to @rottenseed's comment.

You started a Sift Talk post about sexist comments/videos being a source of contention for you, then you make an attempt at an emasculating joke about my soft penis. I understand most modern feminists are of the cake-and-eat-it-too variety, but when it's that on the face it just has zero comedic punch.

But what's most important is that it isn't that my penis is soft, it's that it's very very tiny. See? Also not a funny joke, but by me reciprocating the humor I'm communicating that everything is right in the world once again.

sorry about the misunderstanding. i really wasn't trying to "promote" this video for personal gain, i just took a look at what i've made in the past and figured that it was something you all might like. i don't make any money on that video if it gets viewed alot nor am i making any money off of them to promote it. i just sent you some points (5) just for being nice to me and helping me understand the rules. you don't have to use them to promote this video. i just wanted to send you some thanks.

power points are not the same as votes (though i do thank you for those).
as a charter you get power points but as i am NOT charter i get ONE power point every two days (which i usually use to promote other peoples submissions that i like).
it takes TWO power points to self promote (unless you are charter).

the gold star achievement is the one where you get the regenerating power points (and best achievement in my opinion).

and no problem with the help.
i was helped when i first started sifting (after YEARS of lurking) and i hope after many sifts of your own you will remember how you were helped and reciprocate in kind.
because at the end of the day is that NOT what makes this world go round?
and we get to meet new and interesting people to boot!
its a win-win.
glad i could help my friend.
namaste.

God loves you! Fail to reciprocate and he will torture you!

Ayn Rand Took Government Assistance. (Philosophy Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

@gwiz665 I think maybe part of your confusion is coming from not having appreciated just how absolute Rand was about this stuff.

Most right-wing people, even libertarian ones, shy away from saying that if the poor can't earn enough to keep from starving, then they should rightfully starve to death, and leave us a better society. Rand didn't.

Rand was against the idea of charity, and in at least one case spoke of how she dreamed of a society that didn't have a word for "give" because the very idea of non-reciprocal exchange is a step towards the tyranny of altruism and collectivism.

At the very least, she should've been offering to close any potential gap between what she'd paid in taxes, and the cost of her treatment.

Why You Don't Think with your Balls

Just sayin! Did no one else think of it watching this video?

No, I thought of kidnapping, false imprisonment, larceny, and defamation. As for the roomate? Also aiding in the kidnapping, false imprisonment, and larceny.

It's not about thinking with your balls, it's about knowing when you are about to get fucked over.

Never take anything of value with you when you are about to get molested by a she-wolf, but by all means reciprocate in kind and to the full extent of the law.

The affectionate sentiments of esteem and approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful and zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, & in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more and more pleasing.
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.
I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection & blessing of the common father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves & your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.

Would You Kill Your Own Child if God Said So? Caller: Yes

hpqp says...

>> ^maximillian:

I disagree. Saved Christians are compelled to help as a result of their salvation. Before my salvation I helped people because I wanted to hear people's praises of how good I am. Now I do it because of the love of the Lord. There is a difference because the later is a selfish sacrifice whereas the former is vanity. This selfish attitude is the fruit of a true Christian. Not saying non-Christians don't behave this way. However when faced with adversity and other hardships people's motivations are tested. If I only had earthly motivations then I would falter.

Your personal justifications are no deal maker; people will help others out of empathy, vanity, expectance of reciprocity, etc., with or without religion. All religion does is have an authority figure tell you you must be a certain way otherwise you will be tortured forever and not go to an imaginary wonderful place.

The same results of "salvation" as you call it can be found by reading philosophy and/or working on one's ethics and self esteem; no need to have "faith" or believe in the supernatural for any of that.

Israeli Woman Finds Out BF Is Arabic, Sues Him For Rape

raverman says...

So we're treating sex as a legal contract then... exchanged reciprocal sex on condition of knowledge of each other. But that conditional knowledge must related to the exchange. If he had HIV or had lied about using a condom, then maybe this is a discussion. But how can his race be a related condition for the sexual contract?

Unless the law is validating that racial prejudice is an acceptable condition for contact between two people.
i.e. It's legally acceptable to feel hate and betrayal based on race.

The Story of Your Enslavement

quantumushroom says...

The "message" is all over the board, and the way the narrator uses the word "enslavement" reminds me of putting one's hand up to a flashlight beam so the shadow looks huge. Really, if you're going to ramble on about enslavement, start small. You're "enslaved" by your body, you will always need oxygen culled from air. You're "enslaved" by your own belly and the need for food. Except for a few lucky space/moon douchebags, most of us will forever be enslaved by gravity and the earth, never leaving it except to fly to Chicago on peanut-free airliners. You're "enslaved" by your loved ones who demand your time and energy to survive, with no permanent guarantee they will reciprocate. You're "enslaved" by your friends, their opinions, your opinions and the balance of honesty versus hurting feelings needlessly. And so on.

The State is "that great fiction by which everyone tries to live at the expense of everyone else." We know this. The narrator was closest to the current truth when he described governments as mafias. But we've come a long way from the days when tyrants could execute whomever they wished at any time. At least in the "less enslaved" parts of the globe.

"Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." --G. Washington.

Modern civilization depends on the one lousy master, or a few masters with powers divided, rather than the whims of 100 million little ones, for when anarchy reigns, the neighbor with the biggest guns and posse wins out. S/he may be benevolent today but not tomorrow. And so ...to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed...

Why do vids like this ultimately fail? Mostly due to vagueness and having no real answers, but mainly because they assume that in every epoch the State is all-powerful and all-knowing, when history proves none of them has it 100% correct, or even 30% correct. Governments rise and fall like tides. Sometimes they have no idea what they're doing, at others they know the right things to do but don't or won't do them for any number of reasons.

So what does this all mean? Relax. Grab a beer. Light up a joint. Per quantum mechanics or string theory or something, you both exist and do not exist right now. You are both free and "enslaved". Have a nice evening. I will, for I have pr0n!

O Me! O Life!

By Walt Whitman

O me! O life! of the questions of these recurring,
Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill'd with the foolish,
Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I,
and who more faithless?)
Of eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the
struggle ever renew'd,
Of the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see
around me,
Of the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined,
The question, O me! so sad, recurring--What good amid these, O me, O life?

Answer.
That you are here--that life exists and identity,
That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

...Transitioning from this inspirational speech to your political 'racism of reciprocity' bullshit is condescending, and transitioning from 'I'm black and proud' to 'stop all this heehawing about race' is just plain disgusting. It's also interesting to note that you have no problem heehawing about race yourself. How do you justify this? White privilege fringe benefits?

Man, sometimes you just nail it.
