Instead of a hard limit you could allow a user to excede it, but then have any points above that limit decay over x days. That way if a new user finds themselves with a couple of videos in the top15 and maybe a highly rated comment then they at least have the opportunity to promote some more of their videos.

On hoarding...well I've "hoarded" 21 powerpoints out of lack of things to do with them. Thats not a complaint really, I just think there is enough restriction on new sifters without this cap. I also think the existing powers restriction makes more sense, you are rewarded for sifting videos and not just for being here for a few years.

I currently have 46 powerpoints, what are my rights? :-)

Ya, I don't know what the solution is, but I do see problems with the new mechanics. Thanks for bringing up the topic though Dag. I know everything is new and you guys worked very hard on it so some of us are reluctant to point out glaring oddities just yet. This is one I noticed right away.

Definitely, I feel like they look like paid ads. Definitely, they don't look more important than those in the listings. I don't feel like they are special so I don't feel the need to click on them - in fact, I keep forgetting what they are and skip over them most the time. It's become an intuitive decision to skip over the ads at the top of websites which is what these look like.

As has been mentioned, and I agree, these "featured" videos have been stripped of all identity that would engage me and encourage me to watch them (tags, description, how new/old it is, how many views it's had.) This makes it heavily reliable on the thumbnail and title, which when you think about it, should be enough, but I'm surprised to realise how much those other pieces play in whether I click on it or not. No description = no click.

It's like shopping at Wal-Mart, not priced = no sale.

Nowadays we just create drab 150-slide powerpoint presentations with 150 words each.

Yeah, not a fan of the new promoted videos system AT ALL.

1. They aren't visible enough - your eyes are drawn to the bigger, unpromoted videos below.
2. You can waste powerpoints if three other videos are promoted straight after you promote something... and lets face it, in the evenings, the vs 4.0 front page occasionally had 10 promoted videos. So this will happen.

Something needs to change here. This is more than just "getting used to the change".

So what happens when 4 videos are promoted in fairly quick succession? Nobody sees the first? Seems like a total waste of a powerpoint if so...
