StarCraft II - Ghosts of the Past Trailer

Throbbin says...

Well thanks.>> ^mentality:

>> ^Throbbin:
I respectfully disagree. I loved starcraft, and it's expansions, but I like SupCom better. Korea is alot of things - it isn't the standard by which I measure quality.>> ^mentality:
>> ^Throbbin:
Looks interesting. Wanna play the game before I pass judgement. Better be damn good if it wants to knock SupCom off the RTS podium.

If there is a podium for RTS, the reigning king for the past 12 years is Brood War. And no game, including Starcraft II, is going to topple that for a while.
You don't get this with SupCom:

But of course, you are free to subjectively prefer any game you wish.

I also don't use Korea as a standard measure of quality. I use the fact that only Starcraft has enough depth and balance to have a wildly successful professional scene 12 years after release. It is also one of a handful of games that have transcended into popular culture.

Nothing else comes close, not Warcraft, not SupCom, and not one of Relic's finely crafted RTSes. Starcraft II may take the throne one day, but not until it gets 2 expansions and years of fine tuning.

But of course, you are free to subjectively prefer any game you wish.

Man this link is amazing! The announcers are hilarious. Skip to 24:40 and just listen to how they react to the terran player sneaking a dropship around. Priceless.

Muhammed cartoonist Lars Vilks attacked by muslims in Sweden

longde says...

Wow. A dog.

My sympathy for this character just went to zero.

So a vulgar, talentless, slanderer of religion is what passes for an artistic crusader for free speech in Europe?

>> ^Sagemind:

The artist's name is Lars Vilks.
During a free speech lecture in Sweden about the limits of artistic freedom. 15 Muslims screaming “Allahu Akbar” rushed the podium, headbutted Vilks, broke his glasses and tackled him to the floor. The whole assault was caught on tape:
Vilks has been receiving death threats since he drew an image of the prophet Muhammad with a dog’s body.

Most contemporary Sunni Muslims believe that visual depictions of the prophets generally should be prohibited, and they are particularly averse to visual representations of Muhammad.
Lars Vilks said a group of about 15 people had been shouting and trying to interrupt the lecture before the incident at Uppsala University. Vilks told The Associated Press a man in the front row ran up to him and head-butted him during a lecture, breaking his glasses but leaving him uninjured. It wasn’t immediately clear what happened to the attacker.
Lars Vilks Muhammad drawings controversy:
Vilks has faced numerous threats over his controversial drawing of Muhammad with a dog’s body, but Tuesday’s incident was the first time he has been physically assaulted.
Earlier this year U.S. investigators said Vilks was the target of an alleged murder plot involving
Colleen LaRose, an American woman who dubbed herself “Jihad Jane,” and who now faces life in prison. She had pleaded not guilty.

Creationism propaganda for children

VoodooV says...

Why are the cute moms always so dumb?

In all fairness though, kids are smarter than we usually give them credit for. Just because you've got some guy on a podium evangelizing doesn't mean the kids buy into it. I believed God created everything as a kid too. It doesn't mean I still do. And of course, they more they keep preaching to kids like this, as they grow up, that rebellious instinct kicks in and they start to reject everything parents and adults tell them anyway. Schools spend lots of money trying to pound home the "drugs are bad" message too. How's that working out?

Still, it's pretty despicable that they do this. If their argument is the correct one, it's self-evident right? No need to brainwash your kids then, they'll figure out that "creationism is right" on their own.

Yes Men hoax Chamber of Commerce press conference

NetRunner says...

^ The man at the podium is not from the Chamber of Commerce, he is one of the Yes Men. He has duped members of the press into believing that he is in fact a representative of the Chamber of Commerce, and he is announcing that the Chamber is reversing its position on climate change -- in other words, instead of pretending it's not real and opposing all efforts to deal with it, they're going to jump on board, and actually push Congress to go further, e.g. stop this "clean coal" claptrap, and invest in solar.

The person who interrupts is an actual representative of the Chamber of Commerce, who wants to make clear that the press conference (and accompanying fake press release) are a hoax.

Note, however, that he does not answer the reporter who asks him to clarify the Chamber's position on climate change. He's smart enough to know that it's easy to accidentally say something stupid like "that's a hoax too" or "oh, we're still completely opposed to doing anything about climate change".

Camus can do, but JiggaJonson is smatre! (Happy Talk Post)

videosiftbannedme says...

(busts through doors) Ah! Okay, sorry! (runs over, checks inner pockets on jacket for notes, sets notes on podium)

(clears throat)

My apologies for being late...as we are gathered here today to celebrate gwiz665's diamond achievement, I am reminded of that special feeling....

(looks up to stunned silence, notices banner reading "Congratulations JiggaJonson!")

Um....heh....could you excuse me for a moment? (runs away from podium, runs back) Congratulations, Jigga! (runs frantically into adjoining room)

Unsung Philosophers: Diogenes

GeeSussFreeK says...

Hahahah he would of hated to be remember as a material possession though. There is a story from him where he saw a young girl drinking from a well with her hands. When he saw her doing this he exclaimed something like "Seeing this, I no longer need a cup"....the man wouldn't own a cup!

I think though, having and honoring a dog would make him the most proud. The Greeks honored him by erecting a podium with a statue of a dog on it. Though, to be honest, Diogenes would of peed on said statue given the opportunity. (would it not be awesome to pee on something given to you as a high honor..HA!)

>> ^enoch:
awesome find GJF!
i am still waiting for the diogenes action figure.
