The Pirate Bay (2007)

gwiz665 says...

DMCA is only applicable in the US.

The peer-to-peer distribution networks have undergone a significant evolution with the growth of the Internet. Right now BitTorrent is the preferred way, before there were Napster, E-donkey, DirectConnect and many more. This is just the latest iteration and every time the law is changed, the way to distribute changes. I doubt that it is ever possible to stop the pirate movement, because the people want to do it, and the industry will have to adapt or collapse.

Smugglarn: They could be funded by Hitler himself, that wouldn't change anything. Your way of thinking is the same as the American media, "Are you taking money from that guy? Then you must be totally like him!" It's moronic, narrow-sighted and in your case vicious, since the only reason you have to say it is to spread dissent and anger against the pirate bay. (Oh and you don't have to swear in Battlestar Galacticese, you can say fuck. Fuck fuckety fuck, it's not hurting anyone.)

Redsky: You bring up an interesting point. It's easy to just say "you can put it on iTunes", but for people to know your music they'll have to be exposed to it somehow. Commercials, viral ads and the like are not free or cheap, and "true" word of mouth only works in one in a billion times. But if there is a lesson to learn from youtube and videosift in particular, it is that communities can do wonders in this. Imagine a "Musicsift" where hopeful musicians could try to get their music sifted and thereby spreading their music. It's what musicians use myspace for, but the sift part isn't there.

Single Young Men and Females (Femme Talk Post)

Thylan says...

The 2 articles were interesting, but were a sweeping collection of cultural observations and interrelating/referring them, rather than analysis (as others noted).

It also completely ignores the point that that SYM etc are not accurate descriptions of ALL males. Also, that cultural identification/belonging/peer-group/peer-pressure etc are not the same as buying into it hook line and sinker.

it also doesn't address the implicit idea that it is appropriate for a single male to act as though he were a married man. staying at home with his non existent wife, not seeing his friends, and not socializing/spending the cash he's acquiring on the wife and child he doesn't have.

it starts to address the idea that some of the "married men are grown up men and mature" idea, as having in truth been a myth (even if a hidden and diluted form of current behavior) but doesn't follow through, to provide a proper analysis of exactly what the married man has, in his maturity, which is attractive (possibly to society rather than women, although this is not made clear) which the SYM lacks. Except one reference to the idea of "suppressed libido". And i think that is the key.

triple lol !!! or lol to the 3rd. Are you a pastafarian ?

In reply to this comment by MINK:
double lol... i wished you luck in iraq because i am not having a baby (that i know of

and about the praying thing, yeah it's weird, i use that word as a kind of "i am seriously sending you good vibes"

it's like peer to peer praying, no god involved, we are all god, jah ras tafari, selassie the first, etc.

no i am not a rasta.

good to clear that up for you.

In reply to this comment by qruel:
LOL
that must be the other "Q" or your sense of humor.
you will not find me anywhere near iraq (or even contemplating it for that matter) and while I appreciate the thought, it's always weird as an atheist when I hear that someone is gonna "pray" for me. But I know you said it out of kindness, so again, I appreciate the thought.

In reply to this comment by MINK:
lol, good luck in iraq. i'm praying for you man.

In reply to this comment by qruel:
oh yea, congrats on the upcoming baby. prepare to be the happiest no sleep zombie around.

In reply to this comment by MINK:
there's other members starting with q, but i think you're the one i like? or maybe you're that idiot who made a stupid comment against me 4 months ago and i wish you were dead.

anyway congrats! woop!

Simpsons movie (watch while you can)

budzos says...

I won't watch it because I haven't seen it yet. I'll gladly pay the money to experience a clear picture and surround sound, be it at the cinema or in some home theatre format. This is the same reason I never downloaded movies from peer-to-peer networks back when I was broke... I'd rather wait and see the movie with proper presentation.

Offensive comments (Sift Talk Post)

Farhad2000 says...

It is almost impossible to attain 250 status based on Family Guy videos alone. Reaching 250 means you gave enough of a time sink to this website to really give a care about what content gets posted. Furthermore 250s are a large group of some of the oldest sifters here, a peer to peer understanding is well enough.

But on that note within my entire time here, it is very rare that any 250 has blogged a video because of an offensive comment.

Steal This Film - Pirate Bay documentary (part one, 32mins)

benjee says...

A short film on the king of Peer to Peer sites: The Pirate Bay, and the politics involved with it's recent (unlawful) police 'investigation'. Full of great proverbs, such as: 'Behind every great fortune is an even greater crime' and 'When the winds of change come, some people are building shelters and others are building windmills'.

The Self-linking Thread (Sift Talk Post)

Farhad2000 says...

Yes I admit it, I don't want Theo being all alone

But I doubt you will ever find Robert Johnson or the documentary on Robert Capa out there uploaded either. They aren't Family Guy, Colbert or Obama clips. However this doesn't mean I intend to continue doing so. And I actually agree with MLX though support the peer to peer supervision outlined by PM.

FYI: I switched out the embeds out for the Spaced one as I found one that was similar quality.

Wesley Willis- "Alanis Morissette"

sometimes says...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wesley_Willis

Wesley Willis (May 31, 1963 – August 21, 2003) was a musician and artist from Chicago. A diagnosed schizophrenic, he gained a sizeable cult following in the 1990s after releasing several hundred songs of unique but simple music, with emphasis on his stream-of-consciousness lyrics. Most of his exposure came as an internet phenomenon during the early days of peer-to-peer file sharing (via Napster).
