Giant Kitchen Spider

peggedbea says...

i've checked out this dudes website... from his blog i can tell that he lives in dallas. I also live in the dallas area and have never seen so many spiders anywhere near the size of these spiders just running throughout people's houses in my life. but at the same time he seems too genuinely afraid of it for them to be his pets. weird.
perhaps he lives in the new developments sprawling across the northeast side of the metroplex that is encroaching on the part of north texas that is basically oklahoma. reason #49 DFW should quit growing.... it will soon annex oklahoma, which is the land of meth, cigarettes and freakishly large insects with too many sets of legs.

also, he should call me for spider removal,i'm close and he sucks at it.

I just had a fluffernutter with almond butter instead of peanut butter (Blog Entry by Sarzy)

videosiftbannedme says...

Will definitely have to try it. Having grown up partially in the Northeast, I dig PB & Marshmallow Fluff. Although the only real peanut butter is Laura Scudders All Natural. That or any other all natural PB. Can't stand the name brand stuff as they put rapeseed oil in it and it gives it a funky taste. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try a AlmoMarshondFluffinMallow. (?) A FlufferMondoMallinNutter? What the heck would you call it?

The Daily Show - The Stockholm Syndrome part 2

jerryku says...

I didn't mean to sound racist, but the theory that America's multi-racial nature is why socialism and labor politics is so weak is a fairly popular one. See the book "It Didn't Happen Here: Why Socialism Failed in the United States." Historically the American South was very socialistic, more so than the Northeast and West parts of the country. The biggest supporters of FDR's New Deals were Southerners. Once the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed though, the South went Republican. People wanted wealth redistribution amongst whites, but not amongst whites and blacks.

If you take a look at where white liberals are most popular, they tend to be in areas where there are few native americans, blacks, or latinos. San Francisco, for example, has few blacks or latinos and is considered one of the most liberal cities in the US. Meanwhile, Oakland, just across the bay, is a black city but it seems most whites are conservative there. You put a significant number of blacks and whites together, and the two sides are going to move to polar opposites on the political spectrum. The economic and educational achievement rates are too different between the two groups, and thus sympathetic feelings towards equality and socialism drop.

The Fascism at play here is IslamoFascism. Norwegians and Swedes are no longer safe in their own cities, thanks to the suicidal immigration policies pushed by their political class.
The once pround Norse now dhimmi in their own lands.

What the fuck do you know about my safety? I don't know which country you live in, but I would venture to say that the streets of Oslo are safer at any time of day than wherever you spend your days. The so-called suicidal immigration policies are agreed upon by almost all political parties, and are well-founded in the views of the people. That is something quite different than "pushed by the political class".
Fuck you and Pprt for trying to tell me what is best for my country without ever having lived here or having any knowledge about what exactly our immigration policies are.

So you would feel safe in Malmo, say, walking alone at night with a lady friend? http://fjordman.blogspot.com/2005/02/muslim-rape-epidemic-in-sweden-and.html

Look, don't blame me, but the uncontrolled immigration of evermore belligerant and insular Muslims is destroying your country. Within 20 years they will have to keep the natives in zoos and game parks: rare spectacles to be observed.

Which brings up another touchy subject: you should be procreating and sustaining your population so you don't feel you have to import cheap labor (at such a high cost to your society). you are fixing to be bred into extinction.

It's pretty safe where I live, thanks for asking. Rural northeast of North American. We have guns and good neighbors here to keep it that way.

Anyways, why waste your rage on we who support your soveriegnty? Spend a little on the political class who has sold you down the river.

Don't let your kids become infected with the "atheism"!!!

13897 says...

- By itself, atheism is not a bad thing. But since the human
heart is infinitely deceptive, atheism solves nothing either. -

While most Americans believe that getting rid of religion is an impossible goal, much of the developed world has already accomplished it. Any account of a “god gene” that causes the majority of Americans to helplessly organize their lives around ancient works of religious fiction must explain why so many inhabitants of other First World societies apparently lack such a gene. The level of atheism throughout the rest of the developed world refutes any argument that religion is somehow a moral necessity. Countries like Norway, Iceland, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom are among the least religious societies on Earth. According to the United Nations’ Human Development Report (2005) they are also the healthiest, as indicated by measures of life expectancy, adult literacy, per capita income, educational attainment, gender equality, homicide rate and infant mortality. Conversely, the 50 nations now ranked lowest in terms of human development are unwaveringly religious. Other analyses paint the same picture: The United States is unique among wealthy democracies in its level of religious literalism and opposition to evolutionary theory; it is also uniquely beleaguered by high rates of homicide, abortion, teen pregnancy, STD infection and infant mortality. The same comparison holds true within the United States itself: Southern and Midwestern states, characterized by the highest levels of religious superstition and hostility to evolutionary theory, are especially plagued by the above indicators of societal dysfunction, while the comparatively secular states of the Northeast conform to European norms. Of course, correlational data of this sort do not resolve questions of causality--belief in God may lead to societal dysfunction; societal dysfunction may foster a belief in God; each factor may enable the other; or both may spring from some deeper source of mischief. Leaving aside the issue of cause and effect, these facts prove that atheism is perfectly compatible with the basic aspirations of a civil society; they also prove, conclusively, that religious faith does nothing to ensure a society’s health.

Countries with high levels of atheism also are the most charitable in terms of giving foreign aid to the developing world. The dubious link between Christian literalism and Christian values is also belied by other indices of charity. Consider the ratio in salaries between top-tier CEOs and their average employee: in Britain it is 24 to 1; France 15 to 1; Sweden 13 to 1; in the United States, where 83% of the population believes that Jesus literally rose from the dead, it is 475 to 1. Many a camel, it would seem, expects to squeeze easily through the eye of a needle.

My question to atheists: Why fruit? (Science Talk Post)

videosiftbannedme says...

I'm no scientist by any means, but if I can throw in here, I believe that evolution is tied directly to geography and the surrounding environment. Which is why you have cranberry bogs which thrive in the northeast/west, as opposed to oranges and grapefruits which are more pervasive in southern climates. The "tidal" forces of each region determined the evolution of said fruit, i.e., weather, soil, wind patterns, rainfall, etc, etc. Every variable you can think of is what helped (and continues to help) that particular fruit evolve into its current (and future) state. Which is also why you don't find raspberry brambles growing naturally in southern Texas or pumpkins in northern Idaho.

Find North without a compass (47 sec)

xxovercastxx says...

I'm trying to visualize all of this in my insomniac head right now, so I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the further from the equator you are, the more inaccurate this method will be. In the northern hemisphere your shadow will point northeast (increasingly north the longer you wait). It will also point more north during the winter. The same holds true for the southern hemisphere but "north" becomes "south".

Seems you'd be better off finding a mossy tree.

Police chase and shooting

eric3579 says...

Blue Ash police say they shot and killed a man early today after he tried to run over officers following a high-speed chase in the suburban city just northeast of Cincinnati.

Blue Ash police Captain James Schaffer said officers had no choice, because the car was being used as a weapon.

The chase began shortly after midnight when police tried to stop a car being driven erratically near a high school. Police say the car had been reported stolen.

Police say the car collided with a police cruiser, then accelerated when two officers approached on foot. The vehicle then hit another cruiser.

The Terra Cotta Warriors of Emporer Qin

silvercord says...

Upon ascending the throne at the age of 13 (in 246 BC), Qin Shi Huang, later the first Emperor of all China, had begun to work for his mausoleum. It took 11 years to finish. It is speculated that many buried treasures and sacrificial objects had accompanied the emperor in his after life. A group of peasants uncovered some pottery while digging for a well nearby the royal tomb in 1974. It caught the attention of archaeologists immediately. They came to Xian in droves to study and to extend the digs. They had established beyond doubt that these artifacts were associated with the Qin Dynasty (211-206 BC).

The State Council authorized to build a museum on site in 1975. When completed, people from far and near came to visit. Xian and the Museum of Qin Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses have become landmarks on all travelers' itinerary.

Life size terracotta figures of warriors and horses arranged in battle formations are the star features at the museum. They are replicas of what the imperial guard should look like in those days of pomp and vigor.

The museum covers an area of 16,300 square meters, divided into three sections: No. 1 Pit, No. 2 Pit, and No. 3 Pit respectively. They were tagged in the order of their discoveries. No. 1 Pit is the largest, first opened to the public on China's National Day, 1979. There are columns of soldiers at the front, followed by war chariots at the back.

Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum, Xian, China No. 2 Pit, found in 1976, is 20 meters northeast of No. 1 Pit. It contained over a thousand warriors and 90 chariots of wood. It was unveiled to the public in 1994. Archaeologists came upon No. 3 Pit also in 1976, 25 meters northwest of No. 1 Pit. It looked like to be the command center of the armed forces. It went on display in 1989, with 68 warriors, a war chariot and four horses.

Altogether over 7,000 pottery soldiers, horses, chariots, and even weapons have been unearthed from these pits. Most of them have been restored to their former grandeur.

The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses is a sensational archeological find of all times. It has put Xian on the map for tourists. It was listed by UNESCO in 1987 as one of the world cultural heritages.

Top Gear crew nearly get lynched in Alabama

LadyBug says...

sidepipe ... it's a slang for someone from one of the new england states (such as myself).

per wikipedia:

The term Yankee refers to those Americans from New England whose ancestors arrived from Great Britain before 1700; by extension it is applied to any resident of the Northeast (New England, Mid-Atlantic, and upper Great Lakes states), to any Northerner during and after the American Civil War, or to other citizens of the United States. In certain Commonwealth countries - notably UK, Australia and New Zealand - "Yank" refers to any American and is sometimes mistakenly applied to Canadians. Internationally, "Yank" is today roughly analogous to "Brit" (someone from the UK), "Aussie" (someone from Australia) or "Kiwi" (someone from New Zealand).

Death Valley's Racetrack Playa - The Moving Mystery Rocks

silvercord says...

If you ever go to Death Valley, you can go a little further and find the "Racetrack." It is a dry lakebed, above the valley floor on the Northeast side of the Park. Four-wheel drive is recommended, although not entirely necessary.

When you arrive at the Racetrack, you will notice something startling. On the surface of the lake bed are trails left by rocks that have inexplicably moved across the lake. They look like this:

http://www.pictureninja.com/pages/united-states/california/racetrack-rocks.jpg

In this viddy I found on Youtube, we see an explanation given, for the first time, as to how these rocks are able to move without human assistance.

Weirdest spot on earth.
