Should Powers Be Stripped Unilaterally By Admins Without Balls? (User Poll by chingalera)

chingalera says...

Goddamn boys.... you two and your fucking double-team on good people-You've both got it wrong, and you've both got ego issues larger than planets.

No newt, don't blame it on you, it's not about you at all. You seem to take everything to heart and personally, I have a legitimate beef with unilateral grudges. You both can't seem to derive meaning from the written word when it comes from someone you personally dislike, this poll was not posted as a public address siren to alert you and chicco to your need to let-fly your personal grudges against me. It was an honest appeal to the community as a whole, not an invitation to haters.

You want wanted my opinion, otherwise you wouldn't have chosen to shit all over me, RIGHT!!?? Well ya got it!!

Chicco still has a panty-knot about me that's fucking terminal because I hurt his fragile feelings and he refuses to speak to me in a mature manner, and YOU??? There's simply no inroad to understanding with someone who chooses the path you have taken, I have made several appeals and inroads to your humanity and civility, to no fucking avail, you simply can't process my personality, so you fucking discount me as a piece of shit person altogether, and choose the rude, uncivil, and douche-path....BECAUSE YOU LIKE IT!

I'm a fucking adult son, got a few years on ya,. grow the fuck up and keep your opinions of me to your fucking self, it's working out fine like that....

Again, I used my powers of resurrection for the OVERALL QUALITY AND BENEFIT OF THE sift, her users, visitors, newbies, etc....and I ask you....WHO THE FUCK ELSE DOES IT ANYWAY??!!

Go check recent comments and see how many people here even avail themselves of the power to fix dead pool videos...Very very few...

Fuck didactic and eternally litigious and sophistic examinations of users and their habits, SPECIALIZATION IS FOR INSECTS!!!

Remembering Some Of the Most Notorious Videosift Shills (History Talk Post)

oritteropo says...

Surely that would be a minority view? I certainly never got that impression. Anyway, what would it matter even if the charge was true? Plenty of sifters will set the newbies straight, it's not as if everybody has to.

I think most people here liked having you around, and would be pleased to see you come back.

Remembering Some Of the Most Notorious Videosift Shills (History Talk Post)

mintbbb says...

I guess I have to respond to this:

First, English is not my 1st language, so I am not 100 % sure what a 'shill' is. According to Wikipedia: 'is a person who publicly helps a person or organization without disclosing that they have a close relationship with the person or organization.'

if that's what you mean by NR being a shill, I do not think it is correct. He did what he did because his heart was in the right place, and he believes in what he was saying. You constantly STILL butchering him is somewhat repulsive. If anybody needs a mental health professional, it is not him.

When it comes to me, you have not made amends. You have apologized, several times in public posts, but I do not think any of those are sincere. I have mostly ignored your commenting, I just responded to one post about asking if my family is OK after I went away because my dog was seriously ill. I did appreciate the concern, but I do not consider you a nice, or sane person, and I certainly have not forgotten the things you have done.

I stay away from VS because I was told (not by Choggie) that my comments are condensending towards newbies (which I apologize, I just have trouble getting my throughs through in English), and I am not helpful. Not being helpful is true, since I tend to isolate myself. But it has not been my intention to 'just dominate the sift'. I might have said stupid things like that when I was new here, and I did enjoy the success. It is nice to be good at something, even if it was just sifting tons of videos.

I do not want to start a fight here, and I am not going to comment any further. I might be back one day and I do not want to be disliked any more than this. Just leave my hubby alone when you have no idea what you are talking about.

I was experimenting with that once before...I think you can do certain things with discarded videos that you can't do with killed videos. I think this might require more testing!! I'll let you know what I find out if I run across something like this again.

I was just thinking something else too...I know when I started here (before I got bronze) I couldn't *isdupe my own video but I think something might have changed with that recently and newbies can do that now. MORE TESTING!! That would solve the problem.

I think that it is possible to isdupe a killed vid, too, at least for gold star.

How About a Few More Downvotes, Eh?? (User Poll by chingalera)

chingalera says...

Ok besides ant here....

Who down-votes with a tincture of sensibilities, pet-peevish disdain for tone and timbre of a particular user's comments or antics, half a fifth of, "That'll panty-knot yer grandstandin'!", and maybe a dash of, "Oh fuck off, up or down and I don't care!"??

My take on the dichotomy that does not exist here with regards to the efficacy of votes and their effect on anything but fake bling, is that up and down should be tossed-around with fervor and abandon on offerings of users who have been here the longest, are the most active etc., and that more attention should be paid to the offerings and activeness of the USERS WHO ARE:

A newbies
B talented and resourceful, (feel'em out, dipshits!)
C show the fuck up at all and say ANYTHING on this flaccid site!

Kinna boringly cliquish and dull around here, maybe you charters who put money to mouth should get a room and come up with some ideas-Place needs a douche

Why cant non probationary, non gem, members *dead/dupe/rel (Wtf Talk Post)

mintbbb says...

Hopefully newbies/probies keep submitting videos, and will be noticed at least enough to get rid of the 'P'. Unfortunaterly lots of 'P' submissions get lost in the pool of spam or self-link, and get unnoticed.

I thought anybody could do a dupeof if they were the submitter of the dupe, but then, dupeof was not around when I was a newbie. I do think anybody should be able to to do dupeof and dead to their own submissions.

I do think that calling dupes and dead on other's submissions should take a level or two.

But, if you can kill and discard your own videos, you should be able to call them dead and dupes also.

oritteropo says...

I'm sorry, I really thought that you would have been able to do that.

I think the assumption is that if you post the occasional video, it won't take that long to get to 25 stars to mark things dead... but getting off my P plates seemed to take ages, and then getting to bronze was a bit of a crawl too, so I can see where you are coming from, perhaps post a sift talk about it? I think the levels are set up to stop newbies from causing trouble... certainly dupeof causes a lot of woe for everybody.

You only had to post a message to the admins to reclaim your older account.

I find it really fucking stupid that known good users of VideoSift who aren't on here 24x7 trying to get a special icon cannot make the place better by saying videos are dead or dupes etc.

This makes no sense and has bothered me for years.

On Seniority for Power Point Accrual (Sift Talk Post)

bareboards2 says...

@Deano...

Max power points were limited to the number of years you were on the Sift, with Sift 5.

So the max power points anyone could have was 6, since the Sift has been around for only 6 years. So if you already had 6 PPs, if you hit #1 to earn 2 PPs, you got nothing.

I could have lived with that.

But the serious problem, in my eyes, was what happened to newbies. Unless they paid to be charter, they would have to be on the Sift for more than 1 year, 364 days before they would be able to "earn" 2 PPs.

So someone like Punkin, who comes in here with videos ablazing, figuring out the Sift in no time flat, would not be able to have the success she has had. Can never promote her own stuff, doesn't "earn" her rewards which she has been generously sharing (not trading, but sharing).... someone like Punkin would never happen again on the Sift under these limitations. I think the Sift would be a less rich place for her absence, and others like her.

So that is the stripped down backstory. With my opinion slathered all over it. Tis best if you can be careful to separate the bare bones of the situation from my editorial content. All opinions are just mine, after all.

I had thought if they wanted to limit PPs, to avoid hoarding, they should have had everyone be limited to six PPs. That is enough to have time to spend some before the next ones are earned. Then you have a level playing field that doesn't reward seniority at the cost of stellar Sifting.

And then each year, it would go up one PP. As a Sift birthday present to everyone.

But they went with just going back to the old system, with its old pitfalls still in place. That is fine, too. In my opinion.

Silence on the Power Point limitation? (Money Talk Post)

nock says...

Doesn't this change allow some members to have "an inordinate amount of power over the content" by restricting new members' power points? What I've always liked about VS is its egalitarian nature; 1 vote = 1 vote no matter who it came from, newbie or otherwise. If we're saying we value older members more than more recent members, why not have votes counted based on number of years of membership? e.g. 1 year = 1 vote, 2 years = 2 votes, etc. I suspect that this change would not be well received, so why the discrepancy in power points?

Allow me to jump in, now that I've had two cups of coffee. Zing!

The limitation by years of Sift service was actually an idea from a member. We liked it because it values long-term Sifters who really know their way around and prevents hoarding of points that would give some members an inordinate amount of power over the content.
