Ricochet - Ultra Realistic CG Animation mixed w/ Live Action
No, it probably has a lot of motion capture, but it's mostly cg and cg editing. You can tell when you look close. They use up to 5200 polygons per soldier. The camera shake makes it look more real though. Check out the link that BicycleRepairMan posted: http://www.threeleggedlegs.com/view/?what=ricochet_expository
What's it like being a monkey's uncle? I always wondered what that would be like.
Lazy Disney Animators of the 70s
The old Disney animators were anything but lazy. Like goofball says, they had to redraw everything from scratch anyways. No motion capture to "recycle". Maybe the name should be changed?
Man, I miss these hand-drawn cartoons.
Rapid Prototyping + 3d Capture Lets you Draw Furniture
The thing is, THEY'RE not seeing what they're drawing as they're drawing it....notice they're not even looking at a monitor or anything. This also explains why the sketches are so loose.
Give me a system where I just have to wear some light-weight goggles and can see AS I'm drawing in 3D, then we'll have something. Otherwise this is just old technology that's been around forever. It's motion capture, that's all.
How it's made - video games
i didnt bother readin what you guys said but this was wrong in one place that i found, because when he said that little "motion capture" bit, that was not right, motion capture is when they stick a guy in a suit covered in dots and make his move around and they capture the key movment using a computer, and that nerd who stood up and pulled the sword out, or recording hislef was not.
I'm sur esomone noticed this, but i thought i'd point it out.
Superman v. the Mad Scientist (1941) - better animation than today's cartoons?
depends which cartoons.. the ones on CN or Fox Kids - true... the ones in the theaters? i don't think so... +these tunes were overdrawn on real photo shots... (in some ways its similar to what they are doing with motion capture... they just dont do it by hand now:)
Endorphin - dynamic behaviour engine
Wow, all this and without Motion capturing.
