AIDS Contaminated Drugs Sold Globally

I just tried to submit 'Buena' by Morphine - and once again you beat me to it! And it's only the fifth thing I've tried to submit. I like where you're coming from. I reiterate, you've got good taste.

Worse than eyeball cancer... Alvin & the Chipmunks Videogame

Flowers of Darkness - A History of the Poppy

FishBulb says...

I'm sure its VS user 'Choggie' that submitted a history channel doco on 'opium, morphine, and heroin'. Basically the same thing but much more detailed. Can't find the link now, I'll keep looking though.

Moore vs Blitzter

choggie says...

Perhaps while legalizing all drugs in their purest forms, while simultaneously making all prescription controlled substances obsolete through right living and thinking.....folks who have never programmed their bodies to rely on sugar, for instance, become ill if they eat too much.....same with antidepressant addicts.....seen folks tolerances that were violently scary...same dose, would put some in an emergency room...and WHY again is it that anti-depressants were developed and manufactured???...why were there more heroin addicts in the US after the civil war?? Pain-killer addiction, morphine, heroin.....fast forward to now, we traded drugs that have been here since Methusela's day, for some pay-to-the-man, legal addictive synthesized shinola that renders the post-industrial prole, a simpering, passive-aggressive, robot.....HAH! the prospect of the alternative to the republican party in the US's next go-round, make ya wanna just scream from yer spaceship, -Silly, pathetic humans, soon you will meet your own insanity head-on!!.....(got any popcorn???let's watch that shit!!)

Election 08' vote same, vote lame, pick the most-used, paid-for name, just make sure, it don't say it's the same....red team blue team, rah rah rah..

(damn, did we vote yet???)

The Worlds most dangerous drug - documentary by N.G.

codenazi says...

basically, yes, though it's a matter of perspective.

People seem to forget that by FAR the most dangerous and abused drug is alcohol. It does all of the bad things they claim that "hard drugs" do, and yet we ignore it all the time.

Yes, there are idiots our there that abuse amphetamines, just as there are idiots that abuse anything. As for screwing up communities, like most of the War On (some) Drugs, most of the problem is the fact that it's illegal and gangs/etc get involved.

Is it "addictive"? Yes, but no more than many other things people use all the time. Is it damaging if you abuse it? Yes, but so is everything else. I think it may surprise you how many people use such drugs - they are all around you, yet you don't see it because they are not idiots about it.

As for desoxin, my point was it's not "The Worlds most dangerous drug", as it's used therapeutically with a long history. It's nowhere close. Don't believe the propaganda. In the 80s it was "crack", now it's "meth". The name has changed, but the propaganda is the same.

/and by the way, morphine should be sold easily, for much the same reasons. Making it unregulated like it is now just forces it to the dangerous black market, and doesn't stop it's use.

conde, you are seriously trying to say that the messages of meth being highly addictive, damaging and that they screw up communities is bollox? As for the desoxin comment, thats like saying we should allow morphine on the streets because its used in hospitals...

The Californian Guitar Trio with Jon Anderson

deathcow says...

The first verses he sings, and the music with him, is everything YES to me... I'm not terribly into the journey to chaotica that follows and preceeds, but for those moments it's like a morphine drip for me.

Saving Private Ryan - Counter-Sniper

pyrex says...

Most heartwrenching: the medic dying in the arms of his comrades, trying to instruct them on how to save him, asking for more morphine, screaming for his mom.

Favorite: too many really. This sniper scene, the beach rush, the collapsing wall scene, the final battle. Though something that struck me as particularly serene was the short period before the final battle, them sitting around listening to Édith Piaf..

James Randi explains Homeopathy

If it helps someone like persephone, why call it a waste of money? Placebo effect can be quite powerful and superior to any active ingredients in some cases. For instance the article below shows that placebo effect stimulates release of natural endorphins, which are better than morphine for many reasons (for instance, you can't overdose on them)

A related issue is the debate over acupuncture. Some people argue that the reason acupuncture works is because of a placebo effect. But the influence of extend of placebo effect isn't really something you can test in acupuncture. My question is -- if it works, who cares what you call it?

Soul Coughing - Screenwriter's Blues

Morphine - Buena

tremormilo says...

Love and miss this band so much. It's a damn shame he passed before they could tour with Soul Coughing. That would have been phenomenal.

FYI Morphine fans: There's a little Cambridge label called Cosmic that has a Mark Sandman solo 7" called _Like Swimming_ (not to be confused with the Morphine LP of same name), and a 7" from a duo called Supergroup, which consisted of Sandman and Chris Ballew from the Presidents of the USA.

Morphine - Buena

doremifa says...

Morphine songs were all over film soundtracks. They probably did very well by those royalties but they were touring worldwide too (Both usually equate to breaking even. Their songs were usually used in the background of scum, badasses (pardon) and the like, palying pool, etc. "Cure For Pain" did very well for them after the exposure from an indy film called "Spanking the Monkey." Mark Sandman, RIP, died on stage in Italy from a heart attack.

Dr. Strangelove - A Call to the President

choggie says...

Survival Kit contents check. In them you will find: one 45 caliber automatic, two boxes of ammunition, four days concentrated emergency rations, one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills, one miniature combination Rooshan phrase book and Bible, one hundred dollars in rubles, one hundred dollars in gold, nine packs of chewing gum, one issue of prophylactics, three lipsticks, three pair of nylon stockings -- shoot, a fellah could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff....
