Christopher Hitchens is Waterboarded
If you can manage the thought of dieing, or have no care about dieing with your secrets then you would have no problem with this.
The guys doing it, looked at him after only 2 pours they expected him to fall out faster than that. This form of torture does not get you the information that you need, it gets you lies. There are other means of torture that do not involve water, most people will simply crack after being in a low lit room with no clock.
If you want good intel you have to target the Interviewee's soft spots. Its a mind game, find out what Symbol the person cares about the most and then rip it from them and taunt them with it. They will give you what you need.
For some this symbol is family, country, a cross, or a ring any thing like this. Thats the first step to breaking them down, after you hit them hard like that it should be easy to finish the job with out torture.
You never threatened their lives, so they have no real reason to lie to you to save their life. So in this case you could get better intelligence from the minds break down instead of the threat of death.
I know that I would not give them the information they desired just because I was threatened with death. I would give them any thing and every thing. Then let them sort out what is real and what isn't. The odds that they will find the right piece of information in the Lies is small.
So now you know why enemies and people choose to die rather than go to prison.

I'm surprised at how little water it took. I was always under the impression that they pour a bucket of water over the hood. I'd be interested to try it in a controlled situation; but at the same time, I'd rather not be stricken with the recurring nightmares/feelings of being smothered.
Antonin Scalia: Torture Is Not "Cruel and Unusual Punishment
Punishing you for not telling them what they want to know?
Punishment is the stick, its the push factor. Its the whip, its the wet rag, its the electric chair, its the psychological mind games and its the cocktail of chemicals. Torture is just a specific "genre" of punishment. Is infanticide not a murder as much as homicide?
Playing word games around laws is detrimental. The words serve the spirit, not the other way around.
Battlestar Galactica: Great show, or GREATEST show? (Scifi Talk Post)
BSG is great. I was nudged into watching it by Pyrex and Raven, I finally gave in and got the first season. Within the next 3 days I watched Seasons 1, 2 and 3.
I love the characters, the psychological mind games of the Cylons and the incredible dog fighting scenes which look amazing even though it's CGI, they actually use proper aerial camera angles and it comes off looking very realistic. I don't know about the whole God angle they are perusing.
I think I will wait till the seasons over until I watch the whole thing in one sitting. I hate being dicked around waiting for the next episode.
Oh and am surprised you think Lost didn't out stay it's welcome in the first season, its the stupidest show I have ever seen. First it's flashbacks and now it's flash forwards! Oh and never rely on the characters to ask the important fucking questions!!! Oh look a polar bear and a murderous black cloud! Oh and the statue of a foot! The writers of this show are nothing but money grabbing cunts... they will never ever finish the show in any satisfying way... everyone who is following it is just building themselves for a huge disappointment ala end of X-Files when T1000 became an FBI agent post Duchovny.
Best of -- Crash Tests Compilation -- Part 1
Argghh scary rat thing! Viral mind-games.
Yeah, impressed by the Smart car. Naff car but the front takes the impact very well. The driver's legs would be wreaked but you'd expect a lot worse from the speed, just look at the yellow car at t-30s! Of course, the deceleration would also mess you up. The green car in front of the red Citroen is just obliterated and the Citroen it's self disappears, that's scary.
I presume these are from all over the place? The 2nd clip, the train hitting the people carrier, was on Top Gear as part of a spoof safety ad.
Tank at t-50s FTW!

rusty, sounds like classic mind games - or double-guessing.
Makes the game fun, eh?
