Zero Punctuation: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Thylan says...

I have once, briefly, played some other smash bros melee something, and found playing Peach, beating people randomly senseless with her pink umbrella to be so unquenchably and hilariously satisfying that i was possibly going mad with glee and might have needed sectioning. i look forward to doing this again one day.

GAAAAAAMETRADERRRRS ROBINAAAAAAA

lol no, but while I disagree with him that the game isn't awesome, he does point out the flaws quite well:

1. With SSBB being played almost constantly once we got it, it still took a few days to unlock all the freaking characters.

2. The huge levels are TOO FUCKING BIG, and zooming out to the point where you can't see shit (and I was playing this on a fucking hugeass TV) is just annoying as fuck. I complained about it in Melee, and was disappointed they kept it up here, though they did balance it out with a lot of fun, small levels too. The small levels keep the action fast and fun.

However, I don't understand why he complains about having "only one evening" to review the game. I don't know that that's really enough to fully try out all the different modes, and it certainly isn't enough to try out and get a feel for all the characters.

Overall, a rather mediocre review coming from him, because he seemed to be more focused on trying to piss off fanboys than reviewing to the best of his abilities.

Still, funny.

Super Smash Bros Brawl: Final Smash Showcase!

I only played super smash bros melee a few times, but there was nothing more satisfying than beating people up with Princes Peach's pink umbrella. That never got old.

(07-03) 08:48 PDT LITTLE ROCK, (AP) – A police officer who appeared to choke a skateboarder and put two others in a headlock in a video posted online used appropriate force when making his arrests, an internal police investigation found. The Hot Springs Police Department Internal Affairs Board found the use of force was within the police department’s policy on non-deadly force and recommended “no changes to this policy.” The decision was released Monday. Officer Joey Williams confronted a situation that “would have overwhelmed any single officer” when he stopped those breaking a Hot Springs city ordinance by skateboarding on a downtown sidewalk June 21, the report said. However, Williams was faulted for leaving a handcuffed suspect unattended while chasing another youth in the resort town’s historic Bathhouse Row. Williams has been on administrative leave since the video hit YouTube on June 25. Police said he would return to active duty Thursday in the city’s downtown. “I think it was fair,” City Manager Kent Myers said. Witnesses “consistently supported the actions of the officer and his efforts to control the situation.” Video from a business’ security cameras shows 10 skateboarders rolling down the city sidewalk at a good clip, followed by Williams, who sprints past the last skater. A video taken by skateboarders and later posted on YouTube shows Williams on top of one of the skaters, apparently choking him. The video also showed Williams putting another two skateboarders in a headlock, and the officer can later be heard threatening to use pepper spray on a skateboarder lying on the ground. Police said they arrested Matthew Jon McCormack, 21, and Skylar Nalls, 19, both of Hot Springs, and four juveniles. McCormack faces a misdemeanor battery charge accusing him of pushing or striking a 67-year-old city employee during the melee. Nalls was cited for skateboarding and faces misdemeanor charges of fleeing and obstructing governmental operations. McCormack has previously disputed many of the police allegations, especially his battery charge. He has said he pulled on the city employee’s arm after the man lifted a girl off her feet in a choke-hold. Hot Springs is a resort town about 50 miles west of Little Rock.

I partly agree, but I think you're going too far.
Remember that we humans have intelligence to be used where our body lacks other features.
So, while using rifles is obviously too much, going barefoot and bare-handed is obviously too few.
I think that you dress however you like, bulletproof jacket is fine, medieval plate armour maybe not, and use some melee weapon not too long, dunno a knife or a mace.

Knife fight training video - Don't get into a knife fight

Upvote for mostly truthful, although for better information and training the Dog Brothers have got their heads on straight when it comes to melee weapons defense, even if I think they're a tiny bit nutty when it comes to their full-contact stickfighting and such. Weapons can be defended against unarmed, but it's not easy, it needs to be trained realistically, and even then the odds are against you.

The best title for one of their DVDs is "Die Less Often."

To be honest, I think such weapon training is only really useful for police, and even then it's not as helpful as preventative/precautionary training.

Firing a Bullet at the Blade of a Samurai Sword - Guess what happens next (2:15 min)

The katana has long been considered the highest form of steel-bladed melee weapons ever created. The Japanese have one in a museum folded (rumored, anyway) 10,000 times. Only the Onin War-era katana were considered junk, with the rest having been shown and rumored to have help commit amazing feats through history (one historical account has Miura Yoshimoto using his own katana to cut off his OWN head in 1516). Either way, a cool video and worthy of note.
