Martin Freeman in New Series 'Fargo'

RFlagg says...

The Coen brothers are involved with the show, so we'll have to see what becomes of it. I honestly don't remember the movie well enough anyhow. Still an odd thing to turn into a series. It's not a movie that I saw and went, "you know what? This would work as a 10 hour maxi-series." I'll join ChaosEngine on being "cautiously pessimistic".

Sandra Bullock speaks a mean German

radx says...

Mkay, quick and dirty...

"Thank you, thank you.

Boy, am I nervous.

Ok. What great times we live in: I used to work as a waitress, then a cleaner, then a disco dancer, then a dog's hairdresser... who would have thought that all these jobs would one day lead me onto this stage. But it's the best proof that today's audience is tolerant enough that even people like me get a chance.

My mother always told me to be creative, which drove me crazy as a kid, but now I get it. She was ahead of her time. Thank god she infused me with this mentality before she passed away."

Then she goes on to thank all sorts of people: Dr. Burda, her family, Caroline, Christina, Gabriela, Barbara, aunt Christel, uncle Heinz.

And she told Maxi to go to sleep.

Lazy Game Reviewer Reviews Simcity

EvilDeathBee says...

I wonder who exactly is responsible for turning this potentially amazing game into the shit fest it is now. Sure there are a lot of problems that are simply bugs which patches can fix, but the biggest issues come directly from down right idiotic decisions in the game design that do nothing but drastically limit it.

So was it the Maxis game designers themselves that thought forcing unwanted multiplayer with tiny cites was a great idea (possibly after being in some accident that caused permanent brain damage), or was that EA muscling in with their head up their arse?

Behold The Majesty of Simcity GlassBox Simulation

Quadrophonic says...

@aimpoint @FlowersInHisHair Ok, it's hard for me to argue against faulty gameplay. Maybe I'm just a cynical bastard, but after what I saw in the beta I was pretty sure they would fuck this game up (from the perspective of a fan of the series). It's just how modern industry works, EA was trying to get a huge new user base, so they made the game more appealing to casual users. By doing that, it was almost inevitable to fuck up for the old fans of sim city. When I heard that you only need about an hour to fill the city space, I was goddamn sure they fucked up. It's now this game for the typical call of duty player, who doesn't want to put to much thought in his projects, all that matters is that his city looks good. If I remember correctly, I had to start Sim City 4 over and over again before I learned how to build a city.

I'm not saying EA couldn't do otherwise. For example this is the same thing I thought modern game industry would do to X-Com, but Firaxis did a wonderful Job reinventing the series and they brought a new simpler aspect into turn-based strategy. It also had some really frustrating bugs (especially if you played with only one save game) they fixed up later... But since this is EA (I don't say maxis for a reason, because they are part of EA) I wouldn't bet a penny that they fix all these issues, at least not for free. I would predict that in about halve a year you'll see the "Bigger Cities" DLC for 5-20 $.

Oh boy.

It's astonishing how EA/Maxis not only try to control every single aspect of your gaming experience, but also fuck it up in the process.

Meanwhile, Bohemia Interactive actively encourage their customers to mess around with the Arma 3 engine at their hearts' content and empower them to create several lifetimes worth of content for free. Hell, it's just an alpha version and already people are creating entirely new features -- and BI happily integrate them into the main build.

Watch and learn, EA. Watch and learn.

SimCity 5 - Edit, tweak, or destroy anybody's public city

EvilDeathBee says...

I was really looking forward to playing this game, until I heard of the DRM and I knew then it would be a big problem and decided not to get it, but I would never have dreamed it'd turn into the FUBAR mess that it has become. And the constant lying and bullshit EA and Maxis say is ridiculous.
I hope they'll add a single player option, offline play, increase the ridiculously small city size and offer a formal apology to everyone for all the outrageous lying. But this is EA, ain't gonna happen

NerdAlert: SimCity Launch Disaster - EA Earns Your Rage

swedishfriend says...

Can you imagine the nerd rage if you needed a top of the line PC to run Sim City? Or if the cities were even smaller? The servers run some of the simulation so that the game could run on most machines. This is why Maxis is taking responsibility. Polygon.com had answers from Maxis very quickly where they explain all this stuff. Something about each user needing 80% more processing than during the Beta because of some problem with databases and the crazy load from selling way more copies than the pre-orders had indicated. Whatever code runs on the servers now I am sure they could eventually run locally but they probably weren't planning on doing that work for years. If something doesn't work you will be able to get a refund if you push hard enough. That is what I would have done if I had bought the game and it didn't work.

U.S Soldiers Are Waking Up!

quantumushroom says...

When Ronald Reagan "inherited" the mess that spineless anti-Semite socialist neo-maxie-zoom-dweebie James Carter left behind, America was nearly lost. In two years, Reagan's policies turned the country around and the 1980s were one of the most vibrant economic periods in US history. And all Reagan did was unleash the dynamic will of the American people, lowering taxes so people could keep more of what they earned. Government isn't the solution to our problems, government IS the problem.

In two years obamarx could have turned America away from the European model, nations going bankrupt one after the other because socialism always flops in the long run, human nature being what it is.

Instead The One is attempting to put America on the same path tried for 80 years in the soviet union. Government central planning is a total failure and communism is responsible for 100 million deaths around the globe.

Doesn't matter if you give obamarx 4 years (likely!) or 40, his policies have about as much effectiveness as trying to scrub a shadow off a sidewalk.

Blaming Bush changes nothing HERE and NOW. Government cannot tax or spend us into prosperity.

November 2nd, 2010 we'll see who's awake.

>> ^Marzden:

Bush had 8 years to fuck everything up big time and you expect obama whose only been in office for 2 to get it all right immediately? Wake the fuck up this aint a computer game, fixing the shit that bush left behind is going to take years.

Do ANYTHING with nunchuks!

Infinity Game Engine Demo

jmd says...

yea, the 7 year old is right. There is a ton of atmospheric volume that is missing. Also Brkn is pretty much right, this has been somewhat done allready. Both black and white 1 and 2 provided a smooth contract from small island map view to "heres a blade of grass" view, although not looking quite as good.

The biggest problem now is not an engine capable of doing seemless space to ground, its the content. Procedural calculations for randomly generated hills, vallys, and bodies of water can only give you so much. Cities, buildings, people, and streets to fill up all the land that is generated (in this case..a planet) is a goddly task. And of course then theres the big task.. reason. Why is a building there? Why is this person here? Whats was the intent of this road back when it was built before the others next to it?

Perhaps when maxis actually starts to care again, and bundles a next gen engine like this with a new sim city, we can take a stab at making out own worlds, from space, down to the street level. Sure it will take a while.. but thats the fun in the game!

Zero Punctuation Review: Sim City Societies

entr0py says...

I'm surprised Yahtzee didn't mention that this isn't a true SimCity game in any sense. Rather, EA now owns the SimCity title, and decided to slap it on this game to increase sales and trick fans of the series. But not only is this the first SimCity game not developed by Maxis, the new developer threw out all of the gameplay and style of the original.

What's wrong w/ this picture? (Blog Entry by laura)

laura says...

Nah, a pantyliner is much thinner and smaller...when I hear "maxi pad" I think "mattress", don't ask me why...
Think of it this way, for example: horny girls would use pantyliners to keep from showing a wet spot, girls on their periods who are actually bleeding use maxis (if they don't use tampons).
HA!
There are litterally hundreds of sizes of pads out there, but I won't get into a whole feminine hygiene class here...
