Contact High ... Yeah Right

chingalera says...

One of your problems with relying on published medical reports as the go-to source for medical education is the nature of the beast and her supporting interests (pharma companies, corporate HR concerns) and another is the success or failure of bi-polar self-medication with various chemical cocktails of choice from first-hand experience with sufferers. Depending on the severity of an individual's diagnosed level of manic-depression, some are able to cope just fine with what has always worked, as long as addiction or excess is kept in personal check according to the influence they have in their interpersonal relationships to society.

Have had plenty of friends who were able to cope just fine, others who let themselves go-MOST, have preferred self-medication over the doctor/guinea-pig relationship, but as more data is accumulated and more walking lab subjects are used in experimentation, they'll get better and better or so you'd like believe, as the gods-little-g of the Babylonian medical experiment put more and more problem herd animals into their respective categories and cages of dependency.

Cannabinoids DO work their wonders for bi-polars. As with ALL sufferers of brain chemistry problems, support from loved ones is key.

I find it odd that she was given Medicinal use of pot when she is Bipolar, because as I have understood for some time, marijuana makes symptoms of psychosis much, much worse, and regular use for anyone who experiences Bipolar, Depression, Mania and the like can see their disease transform into full-blown Schizophrenia from pot use. Is that not true and I just fell for some anti-pot propaganda? This was from several medical reports published sometime in the last 5-10 years.

I liked that because unlike many bad celebrity stories she tells it in a manic way. Just sputtering to get it out of her, word diarrhea all over the place.

Drugged Up Youth Pastor Freaks Out On National TV

chingalera says...

Manic depression and an audience are all one needs to start a religious mob/ice cream social. Oh, and ice cream...and some plastic spoons....and another addition to our building for youth meetings.

James Franco Roast - Andy Samberg

chingalera says...

Watched the whole roast and the best segment came from Jeff Ross, who had the entire panel of comedians in-stitches with short, well-timed quips and a comfortable, un-strained delivery. Samberg's schtick was crude, overworked, manic, tiresome and dull....oh, and unnecessarily long, not unlike most of the tired skits from SNL nowadays.
Lorne Michaels should take him back. Oh. He's there now.....give him a permanent dressing room star then and keep him from polluting any future feature film offerings.

Henry Rollins on Summer Movies and Advertising

chingalera says...

I'm thinkin' 'ol Black Flaggy heres' wellspring of angsty energy comes from manic depression. Bi-polarization....that, and he's got plenty to be pissed and manic about having to be around all the sell-outs, posers, robot monkeys, and vapid hipsters!

Russell Brand on MSNBC Mocking Media

MichaelL says...

Meh... Pretty sure that everybody's panties stay dry here... The announcers don't know what to make of him, Brand keeps trying unsuccessfully to get control of the situation...
Brand's 'manic' stick is annoying in the way that Robin Williams is when he's 'on'. I'll bet some British impressionists do a good job of him though...

Stephen Fry Confesses 2012 Suicide Attempt

poolcleaner says...

Diet and exercise are also keys to overcoming these types of disorders (bipolar, border line personality, etc etc). And building up a support structure of people that understand, who are patient and accepting. Mostly other artists, musicians, some engineers -- though engineering minds tend to want to strip away the unnecessary, which we are to some degree. I say this from experience, not to say that all engineers are assholes, but, well, their OCD asses can't hang most of the time. We are a process that needs to be fixed. WHY IS THIS CABLE GOING THROUGH A SWITCH JUST GET A BIGGER CABLE.

The worst part about the disorder is the cynicism that it builds in oneself, associating with other cynical people, and then realizing that you're on the receiving end of your peer's cynicism and no longer one of the cool kids.

That's actually the worst part because we tend to be social animals -- socially awkward, but still social. And the bridges unwittingly burned and the visible signs of your own social demise, sometimes while in the midst of a manic stage, leads to a potential depressive state, wherein suicide becomes an unending thought.

I've never attempted myself, but I am a climber and have a tendency to walk along the edges of buildings. Not because I would jump but because I enjoy the rush and have little fear of death. I do this for fun outside of these states. Only between a thousand and one million thoughts of suicide in my life and half of them while in a position to inflict this upon myself. Yet I do not. Those're good odds in my book.

I once read that being suicidal gives you the power. The power to do anything for lack of the fear of death. And it's true. I tell everyone I encounter whatever is on my mind; the honest truth, even if it hurts. Everyone who knows me knows that if you want brutal honesty, I can deliver. And I could get up and walk to the ends of the earth because the other choice would be (perceptively) death. Well, then. Time to start running, Forest. Fear is the mind killer fear is the mind killer fear is the mind killer fear is the mind killer.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Write unintelligible and nonsensical letters to congressmen and senators with return addresses from any and all intelligence apparatus

Wear (at least once a week) a crisp, company-man suit with that little white coiled communications wire dangling out of an ear and walk around in federal buildings and court houses....(Make sure the slacks are ass-less)

Subvert, misdirect, confuse, stifle and incinerate the insects that hold the reigns of this shitstorm factory of servers-

The Perks of Paranoia

shatterdrose says...

Just because it's an evolutionary trait, doesn't mean we want it. A hairy male for instance why be able to stand the cold better, but doesn't mean it's a trait him or his potential mates like.

Things like paranoia, or even community, to depression can and do have several links to an evolutionary advantage. The issue here isn't that paranoia is good or extreme, it's that the levels at which they express themselves in certain people are and can be well above normal. There is a thing as healthy paranoia where we generally fear things we don't know as a preservation technique. However, the level of wanton paranoia expressed by manic conspiracy theorists is not healthy. Much the same as sex is good, but a sex addiction is bad. Or sugar . . . we love the taste of sugar but in a time of plenty, it works against us.
