Rabbit of Seville

Sagemind says...

I have to admit.
I was lucky enough to see this performed LIVE.
Performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, with the original cartoon played uncut on Big Screen.
With Mel Blank standing on stage introducing it, and answering questions afterwards.

I got to See over Two hours of footage with the VSO performing soundtrack to some of Loony Toons best musical pieces. With Mel breaking them down and performing between each piece.

Most people don't know that the full uncut versions of these cartoons are never shown any more.

Mel Blanc (Looney Tunes) and his 1000 voices on Latenight

Sagemind says...

I've met Mel twice - both times in Vancouver, BC at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

The first time He was presenting the Loony-Toon cartoons in their full and uncut versions on the big screen. (Some never seen un-cut before, as TV always hacks and slashes them - more than you've ever realized.) He introduced every one of them and talked at great length about each one. I got to meet and shake his hand.

The second time he was presenting all the operatic Buggs Bunny cartoons with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) playing the music live while the Cartoons played on big screen. Imagine the Barber of Seville played live with Rabbit of Seville playing on FULL SIZE Screen. I have a Lithographed poser of Buggs in a Canoe, signed by Mel as a memento of that event.

At both events he not only shared his voice talent, but went into detail about making each "short". He was very candid and stopped and answered questions in what was a fairly intimate setting.

Experiences I'll never forget!
An amazing speaker with amazing talent and a cherished legacy.

Coyote Falls [2010] A Looney Tunes 3D Short

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

The appeal of the Wiley Coyote shorts is the desire to actually see him NAIL that smarmy little blue git. If he actually ever accomplished this objective, the appeal would rapidly dissappate. So the whole Wiley/Roadrunner dynamic is one gigantic $%&@tease, essentially. We watch hoping he will succeed, yet knowing that he never will.

This was a short short, but one of the few worthy Loony Toon entries in the last 20+ years. "Space Jam" sucked so hard that it created a singularity. "Back in Action" was only slightly less sucky. It's long overdue for the Toons to get back to their roots, and this nails it.

Note to the WB. Stop trying to make feature-length & 30 minute shows out of characters & concepts that are built for 4-10 minute comedy blitzes. It doesn't work. It never will.

Rachel Maddow: Avatar - Not Right-wing Enough

poolcleaner says...

>> ^bcglorf:
And this is why I rarely watch anything on MSNBC or FOX.
Some right wing idiots say something stupid about a sci movie, outraged because they think it is meant to symbolize America as the strip miners. Stupid partisans do and say stupid partisan things.
Now we have Rachel Maddow going to bat for the left wing idiots. Instead of rightly identifying the right wingers as idiots for reading too much into a sci fi movie, she goes off into her own loony toon adventure. She decides to act like the right wing outrage isn't over calling America strip miners, but for suggesting strip mining is bad. In so doing, Maddow repeats the stupid part of pretending the movie is a political statement symbolizing America as strip miners.
Left and Right, Dumb and Dumber.
Meanwhile new and important news on the wars they are fighting about being symbolized in a movie isn't covered. The moral high ground is over rated anyways...

Douches and turds. Personally, I prefer the cleansing nature of a douche to the stank of a turd, though they both leave a mess behind.

Weapon of War Story Board (1944)

kronosposeidon says...

I found it interesting that at the very time they were decrying Nazi racism in this film, they also depicted the Japanese (at 2:28) with stereotypical racist features, i.e., the bucktooth Asian.

A lot of Americans don't like this song (written and performed by an American band), for reasons that will be readily apparent at the 13 second mark:

But I find it almost impossible to get past the hypocrisy I found in this video.

Not bagging on you, brother schmawy. It's still a great find, historically speaking.

9/11 Coincidences (Part 10 of a series)

Doc_M says...

I will have to flog my brother for being arrogant I guess. Or perhaps he's just a good pilot.

Calling it impossible is foolish though. It DID happen so someone did it. Not impossible then I guess.
And I don't think anyone here is denying that planes hit the towers. That's just loony-toons. We all SAW them that day with our own eyes.
