Last Episode of Freedom Watch - Closing statement

bookface says...

Noam Chomsky has often said there's no point in speaking truth to power because the powerful already know the truth. It's no surprise to me that Napolitano knows all of this. I guess he just had a Howard Beale moment before "last call" on his show.

Senator Exposes Republican "License to Bully" Bill

Luckily, this law allows me to state that I have a moral conviction that you're a moron. And I religiously believe morons should be punched at every available opportunity. The FSM told me to.

Luckily, we're working on a bill to crack down on internet bullies. (link

Enjoy your time on the internet while it lasts, calling someone a moron will not be tolerated. This is your final warning.

The Weakerthans "Tournament of Hearts"

calvados says...

http://lyrics.wikia.com/lyrics/The_Weakerthans:Tournament_Of_Hearts

Now the lounge is full of farmers for the 7:30 draw
Teammates all left before they had to buy a round
When they pull the 50/50 and I've lost again, I'll go
Maybe have one more brown one for the snowy road

All the championship banners going yellow on the wall
Add my name when it gets closer to last call

So Elvira brings my bottle, hold it up and let it bend
Figures of two rinks battling an extra end
And I'm peeling off the label as they peel a corner guard
Dance down the sheet to the tune of "Hurry, Hurry Hard"

And my popcorn squeaks a question
Wonders why I'm not at home
Where you wait beside a silent telephone
Doodle circles within circles all alone

Have to stop myself from climbing
On the table full of empties to yell why

Why, why can't I draw right up to what I want to say?
Why can't I ever stop where I want to stay?
I slide right through the days
I'm always throwing hack weight

Right off, no never never ever ever
Right off, no never never ever never
Right off, no never never never ever
Right off, no never ever never ever

Now the senior Bonspiel winners, circa 1963
Are all staring, glaring disapprovingly
From their frame in that old photograph at me

And I know you're out there waiting
For an answer I can't give you
So tell me why

Why, why can't I draw right up to what I want to say?
Why can't I ever stop when I want to stay?
We roll right through our years, we drip right through our months
We slide right through our days, I'm always throwing hack weight

Right off, no never never ever ever
Right off, no never never ever never
Right off, no never ever never ever
Right off

Roast List Refresh! - Last Call (Parody Talk Post)

Microsoft Develops Table for Drinking/Alcoholics

2pornot2p says...

This might be illegal in some places. I know over here promoting drinking is illegal, and can even cost your bar its license if you call "last call" at the end of the night. Test tube shot glasses are also illegal because since you can't put them down (without spilling), they force you to drink faster and that's against the law. So this table, optimizes the best time to pester customers that otherwise might not want another drink, i.e. bar owner selling more than regularly, and customers drinking more. I know I'm pushing it, but legislators around here do as well.

John K. Samson of the Weakerthans sings "Gifts"

calvados says...

Wake up, coughing, tired, with my face in my hands,
staring at the window as the sunlight demands action.
All the energy it takes to close these bedroom blinds.
Wrote this selfish sadness on a bathroom wall,
spent half the span of some lost culture's rise and fall,
but I'm as clueless as a drooling four year old.
Still hoping I might find the capacity to let you know I know you're lonely.
So here's the last call for regrets,
a final slow dance through the days that we all hold on to.
Here's the promises I've made, tied too tight to undo.
An unwrapped gift from me to you.
All the slightly insane on the 18 North Main,
reaching for a small-town downtown, night rain,
nothing I could say could be worth saying anyway today.
Like "Hey, whatever happened to what's that guys' name?",
we get a little older and it looks the same: askance.
Excuse my failing sense of humour.
Still hoping I might find the capacity to let you know I know you're lonely.
So here's the last call for regrets,
a final slow dance through the days that we all hold on to.
Here's the promises I've made, tied too tight to undo.
An unwrapped gift from me to you.
Here's the promises I've made; a razor blade and this broken piece of chain.
A history left to rust out in the rain.

The Great VideoSift Coming -Out Thread (Happy Talk Post)

budzos says...

My name's Craig. I'm 32 years old, raised and still living in the suburbs of Toronto. I have a small business doing websites and multimedia. I love movies, PC games, and comic books.

The internet is central to my life. My main goal in life is to keep as much free time as possible for pursuing my stream of consciousness. This is why I work for myself and usually don't have a girlfriend. I often take glee from the fact that I can sometimes go from start to finish on a project without actually meeting the client face to face.

Right this moment, I'm headed out the door to meet some friends for last call. This is after spending most of the evening sleeping, depressed in bed because I conked a pole with my car today, to the tune of $2000 - $3000 repair and I won't be putting it through insurance.

Acoustic beauty: Andy McKee and Don Ross - "Ebon Coast"

Krupo says...

So let's say *obscure b/c until now I hadn't heard of him (though that of course isn't the sole reason... most people in the offline world probably haven't either).

This Wiki quote is amusing - he gets big publicity from the online world... but then turns around and bites part of it. Though I guess the bittorrent crowd isn't exactly the same as the YT crowd, so perhaps this is totally understandable:

YouTube Fame and Beyond

Self-described as "just this guy from Topeka, Kansas who kind of blew up on the Internet about a week before Christmas," McKee became an online sensation after videos of his performances were posted to YouTube by his record label. The video for "Drifting" was massively upvoted by users at Digg, spreading McKee's fame even further.[3] Since then he has appeared by invitation on Woodsongs as well as Last Call with Carson Daly, and his online store completely sold out of his various guitar tablature books; due to massive demand, sheet music for nearly all of his songs is now available to purchase and download from CANdYRAT's webstore. He has also contributed to Josh Groban's 2007 Christmas album, Noël, playing guitar on the song "Little Drummer Boy" - the album went on to become the best-selling CD of 2007, hitting #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

Andy McKee comments on The Pirate Bay
Andy McKee comments on The Pirate Bay

McKee has, in the past, personally commented on BitTorrent websites hosting his music, chastising downloaders for their actions. Posting to The Pirate Bay under the name "AlteredTuning" (which is the same handle he uses on his own website's message boards), McKee sarcastically echoed other commenters' thanks to the original uploader of his album:

Yeah thanks a lot for uploading! It's not like I need to make a living with my music or anything.

8,676 thieves.

If you really appreciate what I am doing, buy my CD legitimately so I can continue to compose music rather than work at K-Mart. I'm not Metallica. I don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars, much less millions.

Geek AND Tech, or two for the price of one? (Sift Talk Post)

rembar says...

Looris, what you're saying is off-topic for this Sift Talk post. I'm saying that "geek" is being used to describe things that aren't truly geeky but are tech-y. And then when people realize that they're tech-y but not geeky, they dump them in Science because that's the closest thing they have to it. It's annoying to me, and I for one would like to see a tech channel. I believe that although most tech things are geeky for now, the existence of a channel would promote more strictly tech-y things. I guess Dag has the last call on this, but I figured I might as well voice my opinion/frustration.

Heck, if we're worried about overlap between the Geek channel and other channels....why the heck does the Video Games channel exist?

Nobody's Watching Part 1 - Rejected WB Pilot

skforty says...

The pilot had been developed for the WB Television Network, but network executives passed the show for the 2005 schedule after test audiences seemed to be confused by the show's premise. However, in June 2006, the pilot was leaked onto YouTube, and quickly attracted attention from viewers around the world. On July 3, a report in the New York Times seemed to indicate that the show may yet make it to a full series, thanks to the positive response from YouTube viewers. During the Friday, July 21, 2006 airing of Last Call with Carson Daly, an NBC president confirmed that co-creator Neil Goldman had just left a meeting with NBC (Last Call is taped in the afternoon) regarding the show's future, and NBC is apparently green lighted a 6 episode run likely for the fall line up.
