Climate Change; Latest science update

Peroxide says...

>> ^bcglorf:

That there is at least some evidence that on at least two occasions over the last 2k years, climate HAS been as warm or warmer [< INCORRECT] than current.

You'll be keen to note that human civilization, (technically now a global civilization with 7 Billion people, obviously more than ever before,) did not prosper through those past climate changes (not the minor fluctuations that Mann shows, but those further back in time). In this video he points out that temperature has not varied by more than 1 degree in the last 10,000 years, this is a scientifically sound statement.

BcGlorf you keep arguing that it did, according to Mann, but the greatest deviation is by only about 0.8 degrees, we are heading for 2.0 on on track for 6.0 degrees change, Im pretty fucking sure your insistence that we needn't panic is based on conjecture and hearsay. Show me your PHD in any scientific discipline and I'll take you more seriously, but from reading through all your posts, frankly, you just don't seem to get it. 0.8 is not 1.0. If you want to have a peer reviewed paper battle, I'd win, but you strike me as one who can't let him/herself believe that the world could go so wrong. Might I suppose you are a person whom prescribes to a certain faith?

How to Make a Better Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Shepppard says...

Meh. I'm not keen on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to begin with, but that's just because I'm not fond of Jams / Jellies.

However, I can tell you that when I DO eat peanut butter, I can't stand "fresh". Generally they're slimy, have no texture, and they run. A lot. So, what that effectively means is that if you're like me and enjoy a good amount of Peanut butter on your sandwich, fresh won't get the job done, it'll run off the side and leave you with a skiff. Adding heat will only make that worse.

Also, I know this is neither here nor there, but I'm not feeling the retardation of making a sandwich. (I.e. slathering as much peanut butter on and then slapping on the top half, a la 1:42.) Don't know why, but that 'example' just annoys me to no end.

What Homosexuality Is Not

VoodooV says...

reposting @A10anis's content from my email notification since they apparently felt the need remove it:

"Thanks for pointing out a typo. As for my "evasiveness/cowardice?" The context in which I used the word "normal" should be self explanatory. However, just for you, I will elucidate. Procreation - the process by which we exist- is, in the context I used it, the "norm." Homosexuality, were IT the norm, would mean extinction. Of course the narrow minded will, once again, jump on that simple fact as if I were homophobic. If my comments were read by people who were not so keen to troll, they would see that is NOT the case."

And we finally get to the heart of the matter. This illogical fear that homosexuality is something you can "catch". this false notion that somehow everyone will be gay or we'll forget how to procreate or no longer want to.

Utter silliness.

What Homosexuality Is Not

I really wouldn't be putting down someone else's cognitive functions when you can't even seem to spell it correctly.
Your evasiveness/cowardice is duly noted however.

Look, I think the video itself is quite annoying because yes, I do feel it's a bit preachy.
but the message itself, is quite accurate.
And if it's so obvious, you won't mind stating why homosexuality is not normal.

I totally agree, the video IS "quite accurate," but I stand by my comment. Gays now -quite rightly - are protected by the law, have civil rights and will soon, hopefully, be allowed to marry. They worked hard for their rights, just as woman, and other persecuted minorities, did. My salient point, regarding the video, is that it preaches to the converted, will not change those bigots who will always hate, and that maybe it's time to enjoy their well earned rights and allow time to change the entrenched opinions of the minority. Sadly, going by the comments, ANY criticism of videos like this is tantamount to homophobia, which could NOT be further from the truth.

That's nice...but you're not answering my very simple question.

You deliberately miss my point. I'm guessing, but you seem to lack simple cognative thought. If you need to understand "normal" look it up my friend. I have neither the time, nor the patience to get into semantics.

Simply incredible. Someone found a way to make Coldplay sound worse.

Oh, is that who does that song? Funny part is a recognized the song, but I know it from the a cappella band Straight, No Chaser. Their version rocks.

Actually I really like Coldplay's version, but it's fashionable to knock them. Not keen on much of Coldplay's stuff but this is one of best.

Rare Daytime Fireball Seen Over Texas

cosmovitelli says...

What!
Oh yeah April's fireball season everyone knows that!

Funny how NO other astronomical phenomena outside of the earth-moon system is synchronised to the earth's rotation around the sun..

That would require a static patch of asteroids to hold position relative to the sun for us to pass thru every solar cycle at the same time.. And to enter the atmosphere over the Americas every year.. And where's last years clip..

Not saying its not possible but these idiots seem rather keen to accept this astonishing explanation..

This phrase is common "downunder". If you want some real Aussie (pronounced AuZZie for you Americans ) slang, try asking for some "Dead Horse" (which somehow means tomato sauce) on your pie.
