Monkey Island theme over the years

Xaielao says...

Yes for the absolute best in PC sound card quality the Gravis was certainly it, especially if you were into the midi crowd (which I somewhat was myself). But for gaming the Aureal topped them all. Two fantastic cards for two fantastic specialties.

And yes Shponglefan, it did have actual 3D and once my LAN friends found that out (both through me killing them from seemingly 'out of nowhere' to them testing it out as well. Even the hard core Creative fan had to think twice. He never took the plunge with Aureal but even with 4.0 system he had, he knew he was outmatched sound-wise when it came to gaming.

What is a Libertarian?

daxgaz says...

I'm glad we have a healthy debate going here

SO, what i have not heard from any of the pro-libertarian group is how corporate monopolies would not run absolutely wild and end up ruling the world. I'm not even exaggerating here. Already corporations control way too much and have insane amounts of power. If libertarian beliefs were put in to practice there would be absolutely nothing stopping giant corporations from buying up every piece of land and every natural asset and then subjugating the entire population. Who's going to stop them?

Also, what about the environment? Under the hard core libertarian stance i have heard, If i want to dump toxic waste in my back yard, who is going to tell me i can't? so what if it leaks in to the ground water. that's for some other guy to take care of.

Dara O'Briain on videogames

KnivesOut says...

This is becoming a classic struggle across many varieties of gaming between the hard-core and the casuals.

The hard-cores want shit to be hard so that they feel like achieving all the trophies, getting to max level, unlocking all the bonus content is a feather in the cap that is worth admiring and being proud of.

The casuals want to see all the parts of the game without working so hard to get there.

To Mr. O'Briain's point: games that give you everything for free, with no effort, aren't as addicting to players, and therefore don't sell as well. It's as simple as that. Gamers want to be challenged.

Most Schooling is Training for Stupidity and Conformity

Throbbin says...

Enoch - bravo!

Most of my teachers through school were textbook folk, who never once made me question or challenge anything. I had one teacher in high school who inspired me, but turns out I annoyed the hell out of him, and he doesn't like to talk to me anymore (I see him around my small hometown when I go back for visits). I don't know what that means.

I was usually resented by my teachers because A) I was on several sports teams (unlike anyone else in my classes) B) My father was a politician who was vocal about his views (anyone from a small town knows what small town politics are like) and C) I had friends among the jocks, the nerds, and the 'bad crowd', which drove teachers and school administrators crazy. Most teachers tend not to like students they can't pigeonhole.

My parents always took a deep interest in my education (IMHO the MOST important factor in childhood education), and my parents supplemented my education with what they thought was lacking (typically with current events, camping/hunting skills, and a morality that one doesn't find in the public system). My mom almost sent me to a renowned all-boys school, but I protested vehemently (no offense to anyone here, but I didn't like those uniformed snobby pricks).

University can be fun, but in my field I find that folks are either completely unquestioningly dependent and loyal to a political party ideology (party volunteers and/or staffers), great at studying dates and names but without an eye for political strategy (bureaucrats), unaffiliated whackos (hard-core feminists, anarchists, etc.), or dumbass fratboy rich-kids who only got in because daddy was alumni and made a generous contribution. Of course, not everyone fits into these categories, but far too many do.

We need more teachers like Enoch. The robots might as well go work in a factory somewhere.

Racist KFC Commercial Followup: The TYT Backlash

westy says...

Racism can be fun in varouse contexts

Humans like to indulge different aspects of there mentality (its arguably healthy to do so) Evan if its things they would never do in reality for example in district 9 the "fucking prawns" line is quite enjoyable.
bing racist to fictoinal charactors or acting like a nazi german , or going along with the stareo typ that all english people have bad teeth and drink lots of tea , its not realy an issue. allot of times people get over offended.

a prime example is the hard core muslims that go and murder people that take the piss out of allah alot of times some people just need to lighten up.

It always seemed like the black people that reacted to being called a nigger were twats themselves people in gangs or general idoits , all the black people i know would shrug it off in the same way i would if sum one said i had bad English teath.

In the end if sumone is actualy a racist and u ignore it or explain to them why its a stupid positoin thats the best thing you can do , going mental over it is just stupid , the only time racism dersurvs going mental over is when you get people killing eachother or sum one directly insighting violence.

just thought id throw that in lol

Jimmy Carr + Atheism = Win

Jesus_Freak says...

Bidouleroux - At least you make no attempt to mask your biggotry. You attack me full bore, why, because of my screen name or because I'm not like-minded with you on your rejection of Christ's deity? The lack of venue for civilized conversation between our two perspectives in this day and age is what saddens me.

Atheists like you drill me day in and day out for the audacity to share what I believe to be the best gift on the planet. You have a free will to reject my message however abruptly you wish. But then you turn around with a hard-core message of "there is no God and you're an idiot to think otherwise," and I'm supposed to take it with a smile.

Atheists who try to use the Bible as a lever against my spiritual beliefs amuse me. When you get around to studying it more than I have, maybe your arguments will carry weight. Assuming I know nothing of my own Bible was ignorant at best on your part. Your argument, by the way, that Jesus made no claims of diety hold no water.

even MORE proof Bill 'O is an idiot

rougy says...

The next time Bill'O wants a shot of scotch?

I'll be there.

The next time that Rush-Bo wants a hit of Oxy?

I'll be there.

The next time that a rich man is standing around, minding his own business, and looking for hard-core drugs.

Bingo!

How People are Manipulated by Fear and Propaganda

raverman says...

When you compare David Icke to some of the 'high-grade' crazy that comes from Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Hannity - It really put's the crazy in proportion.

Only difference is: Hard core republicans ONLY listen to those guys because they are convinced they are saying the truth.

Fox's Shep Smith Argues In Favor Of Public Option

Xaielao says...

I think Shep keeps looking at his fellows at Fox News and is realizing they are becoming so hard core they are blind to simple facts. They hate Obama and their lack of power so much, they spew complete nonsense on a daily basis.

It started with his 'This is America. WE DO NOT FUCKING TORTURE!' outburst a few months ago. I really think he is looking for other work and he's good, I'm surprised they aren't trying to bring him in at CNN. I wouldn't be surprised if within the next year he leaves.

And I cant wait to hear his final words that day.

The Great Kat arguing with Morton Downey Jr

ponceleon says...

Wow. I had never heard of her before... she's a classically trained violinist turned hard-core metal thrasher... some of the MP3s on her site are hilarious. Classical music redone in metal... hah, excellent find.

Congressman's town hall erupts over Obama birth certificate

Nithern says...

Why is this even an issue for people?

Those who believe Mr. Obama is NOT a citizen of the US of A:

GET A LIFE. Your dude lost HARD CORE on November 4, 2008. Mr. Obama has easily past the entrance exam to being a citizen of the USA.

I did have a chuckle listening to that lady in the red shirt, trying (poorly I might add), to wrap the USA flag around her. But then, Republicans and Fox News appeal to the lowest common denominator of our country's citizenzy. I guess we cant expect this group to understand things past Mr. Bush complexity 'level'.
