PC guy is BACK! Watch him troll Apple's MacBook event ('I'm

cloudballoon says...

Personally, Apple hardware is worth the price if you're a graphic design/media creator, mainly because of the color fidelity, gamut range and consistency of its monitors "out of the box. But I absolutely HATE the OS UI. If your not tech savvy then it's a right option with you don't want to fiddle with things, HW or SW. Gamer shouldn't consider Mac though.

Windows PC on the other hand, you get far more power and customizability for the buck. Yeah, it takes research for the best HW for your needs. But you can easily upgrade anything on a PC system, except laptops of course.

My Windows rarely hangs. My Windows 10 systems been running super smooth for years. I know what I open in my emails and sites I visit.

Nowadays, MacOS really isn't that much safer than Win10. Besides, the biggest scam victims are not caused by either OSes but their own stupid, ignorant behaviors online.

one of the many faces of racism in america

enoch says...

yeah..i am with @VoodooV on this one.

the man was not working.
was not wearing any company logos or identification, yet loses his job.

for what?
being an insensitive racist idiot?

public shaming?
all for it,and it might even change a few hearts and minds.inject a little empathy in an otherwise rigid and narrow worldview.

losing his job?
eeeeeeh..i think some people are taking the social warrior thing a tad too far,and are not being far sighted in their execution.

sure..we can hate on this racist asshole and ridicule him for his idiocy, but what happens when the PC police find something that YOU do offensive or inappropriate?

would you still be as confident in losing your livelihood?

i have been following this case in canada where this graphic designer is facing 6 months in jail for criticizing and disagreeing with two feminists.these women are trying to make the case that his criticisms,in the form of tweets, constitutes harrassment.

he lost his job.
is 80k in the hole, and the case has been ongoing for three years.

so there is already a frightening amount of this PC police, social warrior fascism having actually consequences.

so where do we draw the line?
who is going to arbitrarily monitor that line?
who decides what is offensive and what is not?

you start going down this road and that line will become more and more blurred until the first amendment is toast.

i am finding it more and more disturbing that people are beginning to think that being offended somehow equates to a right.that their little world, their minute and tiny habitat should be protected from offensive language.

unless you are ok with destroying peoples lives for being an idiot or an asshole.

social warriors:morality police concerned with their own little habitat, but they have your best interest as well.

oh goodie....

Had No Idea 'Car Wrapping' Was A Thing

RFlagg says...

I'd think if I was getting a wrap, I'd want something more exciting than a plain color, some sort of graphical design.
I'm actually surprised more car companies don't offer wraps at the dealerships or with dealership partners to add more custom options to their cars. Perhaps not full wraps, but some additional graphical flair. Like the pinstripes of old...

Are Imperial Measurements Outdated?

Sagemind says...

It's not a conscious choice to use those methods, they just are what they are.
And I don't measure density, honestly, I have no reason to.

And I am a graphic designer, and when I'm designing for the web, pixel is the Only way to go, as all dimensions in the CSS and HTML are indicated in pixels.

- A web graphic is always 72 dpi, unless for some strange reason its
needed at higher clarity, then I use 96 dpi.
- Images for ads in news print are usually good at 200 dpi.
- Graphics used for full colour print use 300 dpi
I instinctively know the size on the image as it adjusts between the different dpi settings. it's part of the job from doing it for so many years (lol - plus, Photoshop tells you as you reduce the dpi what size it is )

But like I said, if I'm designing for print, then I use Points and Picas - not pixels.

ChaosEngine said:

That seems unnecessarily confusing.

How do you describe density? Pounds per litre?

And pixels are a terrible way to measure "computer". That's why so many 3rd party Windows applications screw up when you change the DPI (which obviously should be DPCM )

What do you do for work ? (Talks Talk Post)

Sagemind says...

Lets see...
After a solid 5-6 hours sleep...
I'm up at 6 a.m. Out the door by 7:15 and in my desk by 7:45.
I work at a college as a Graphics designer. I design everything for campuses in five different towns.
-I design but am not limited to posters, fliers, newspaper and magazine ads, brochures and booklets, t-shirts, bookmarks, vehicle on-lays, and just about anything that you can think of that can be printed including stickers, water bottles and other promotional media.
-I also spend a lot of time designing graphics and fixing web pages on the college's current website as well as an entire site redesign for our 20,000 page website.

Then I go home, cook dinner, clean house and/or, put the kids to bed and then stay up for free-time till 12 or 1 o'clock a.m.

Then repeat

"In addition to 'teaching', an educator also needs to be a leader, a negotiator, a salesman, a disciplinarian, a politician, an administrator, a motivator, a receptionist, an advocate, a librarian, a manager, a public relations agent, a psychologist, an entertainer, an accountant, and for some students, a parent. If you are a music teacher, you get even more hats - arranger, copyist, bus scheduler, event planner, fund raiser, critic, graphic designer, contractor etc. (Running a high school band is like running a business, complete with a board, fundraiser income, expenses, employees, audits, etc.)"

Color is in the Eye of the Beholder: BBC Horizon

Sagemind says...

(As a graphic Designer...)
I noticed the difference on both variations immediately, although the green/green variation were very similar.

I was surprised they couldn't decipher the variation in the blue/green scenario.

I don't think they have a "hereditary" colour blindness to blues as suggested above by Boise_Lib but a "learned" blindness as discussed in the study. Because they have a more limited category selection for classifying the differences, their brains meld the grouped colours as the same and their brains simply record them as being the same thing.

A variation of this study would be to develop a category structure which uses more categories than our norm and raise a study group of children using that new structure. The brains of these children would categorize and identify differently and possibly educated their brains to see a wider difference of colours within the spectrum. (Of course this would be next to impossible, as the children would need to be segregated from all of society and only exposed to people who could emulate the new proposed category system - something which may seem as abusive to a child's freedom of being).

Color is in the Eye of the Beholder: BBC Horizon

hpqp says...

I think people who work with colour regularly, such as graphic designers, would rapidly distinguish the odd colour out in the test, as it seems to be a question of value and intensity. My guess is that the Himba culture's colour vocabulary is based on one (or both) of these aspects instead of the more habitual approach based on hue.

I wonder how they would see @Zifnab's profile picture...

>> ^Boise_Lib:

Fascinating.
When they show the green color circle fullscreen I couldn't see a difference--but when they showed a picture of the color circle on the monitor--I could see it right away.
Also, I wonder if the Himba have a form of hereditary blue/green color blindness.
