Zero Punctuation: The Sims 3

Xaielao says...

As much as I thought Sims 1 was an interesting idea but flawed, and Sims 2 was downright aweful, I'm actually rather enjoying Sims 3. Sure the whole day/night, work/eat/sleep cycle is a bit of a bore but the game is so very revamped and has so much depth and possibilities that it's quite interesting. I find the game oddly relaxing.

Mind it's hardly what Sims 1/2 was, IE a sim that you must remind to pee and get to bed on time, a house you built with tools that would only half do what you wanted them to do and thats it. Your sim(s) and their house. The new one is the entire town, there's far less micromanagement of each individual sim (though the option is there if thats what you enjoy.) Shit you practically can let the game go by itself and your sims will do what they need to, when they need. The fun, for me at least, is now all the other activities you can do. All the seemingly random events that take place in your house and in the town. It's gotten far deeper and more polished and certainly isn't just your sim and their house anymore. For example, my main sim right now is a business mogul that owns half the businesses in the town.

The game certainly isn't your girlfriends Sims 1/2 anymore. I mean if you HATED the first, you probly won't like it, but if you simply didn't find Sims 2 enjoyable, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.
