I've owned a few dachshunds myself, with the current one being almost fifteen years old. They're considered a more difficult breed to train due to their...uh, strong will (really effing stubborn). Nevertheless, they are loyal to the end!

I don't think the dogs has any balls at all. I have two miniature dachshunds who might behave exactly the same. Barking like crazy, just out of reach and turning tail and running like chicken shit when the moose turns to face him.

I used to see a woman who had dachshunds and one LOVED to chase the ball and would continually bring it back and run and chase it again. I've only seen short hairs exhibit this type of behavior as all three of my longhairs lose interest after a toss or two.
