Leftfield & Africa Bambaataa- Africa Shox (Chris Cunningham)

afriKa bambaataa

I'm a huge cunningham and electronic music fan, but a few things about this video held back my excitment.

I actually watched an old WestBam video recently and was reminded of the original Bambaataa and this video.

banned on mtv --- the horrors - 'sheena is a parasite'

these kids are awesome. banned on mtv for the usage of strobe lights, according to wikipedia,

pretty rocking, and pretty gross, but not entirely new to those familiar with Cunningham's other work (or the Sex Pistols, for that matter).

Aphex Twin - Windowlicker [by Chris Cunningham; 10:35 NSFW]

ties 'all is full of love' as my favorite chris cunningham thing ever. i have it on vhs, dvd and a high quality mpeg, in case the google vid ever dies

absolutely brilliant as a commentary on rap videos excess, pop culture, and our animal nature. brutal!

Portishead - All Mine

(this video has always been disappointing to me. it starts off looking like something cool will happen, and then blah. everything in the song is so visually inspiring it makes me feel like this video is way too simple and subtle. could atleast have had the girl smoking a cigarette or something, as an ode to how cool beth is... anything!... someone in the crew should've called chris cunningham)

p.s. I hadn't seen this live one before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzananVefh0

Leftfield & Africa Bambaataa- Africa Shox (Chris Cunningham)

I love Leftfield so much (damn shame they split up)...here's one of their best music videos (directed by Chris Cunningham) - note: Africa Bambaata is the guy who asks "Do you need a hand?" at 4:15.

Aphex Twin - Windowlicker [by Chris Cunningham; 10:35 NSFW]

This is the directors cut of the video - has the seriously NSFW funny intro and credits. It's one of the most twisted music videos I've seen, next to Aphex Twin's Come To Daddy; also by Chris Cunningham.

What makes it even funnier, is that the Aphex Twin (Richard James) set the brief as anything - as long as he didnt appear in it. Only to get a video almost entirely full of him!

Rubber Johnny

Here's other info on the short:

Director Chris Cunningham decided to expand the original project. He has directed three Apex Twin videos: "Come to Daddy", (1997) "Windowlicker" (1999) and "Monkey Drummer" (2001) in addition to the film short. "Rubber Johnny" means a "condom" in the UK - although that was not the focus of this project. See the links below.

Thank you. When I hear the song now, I think of the video.

I recommend the DVD, “The Work of Director Spike Jonze.” It profiles a number of his music videos and provides commentary from Jonze and the musicians who worked with him. The DVD is from a series of seven DVDs by Palm Pictures. The other music video directors profiled are: Anton Corbijn, Chris Cunningham, Jonathan Glazer, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek and Stephane Sednaoui.
