Reservoir No. 2 - Shade Balls

rdavis184 says...

It would be good to see some empirical studies confirming that covering the surface of a body of water with black colored balls slows evaporation.

LA Water Manager: So, covering the surface of our reservoirs with black plastic balls will slow evaporation?

Ball Company: Yes.

LA Water Manager: Good! We'll take 100 million please.

Ball Company: Thanks!

Balls On An Escalator

I would love it. Unexpected bouncing colored balls on just another mundane day would put a smile on my face even if i had to be sooooo burdened by using the elevator instead. I think they were doing it for everyone's amusement(i know i'd be amused). But that's just me. Maybe some would feel inconvienenced, and that would be quite the bummer for them.

Does anyone else remember "Animusic"? Now in real life...

1. They should have used colored balls so you can see them easily.
2. Why is it that all spectators are actually watching the screens on their phones instead of looking at the thing in front of them?

Ronnie O'Sullivan - maximum break (147) at World Open

BicycleRepairMan says...

Shorter version: 147 is the practical maximum in snooker. There are some theoretically possibilities of getting a higher score
1. Your opponent makes a mistake (like putting balls in the wrong order or not hitting anything) will give you points. that of course requires your opponent actually plays some shots, and with people on this level, they usually end up earning points instead of losing them, which means no 147 can happen.

2. The referee makes a mistake: this happens even more rarely (such as putting the colored balls in the wrong place etc) theoretically, if the judge is on a really bad acid trip or blind or mental or something, this can give you nearly an infinite amount of points, but I've never seen anyone get any points like this on TV-matches.

Both these scenarios are very rare tho, and I dont even know if >147 has ever happened in televised games

Wow I almost missed this!

Okay, I'm 22, My first name is Justin. Born in Indiana, now living in the same city as the HQ for the nutjob Scientologists. Um, my screen name isn't really anything special, just something I conjured up as a kid. My avatar is Waldo. If you don't know what it means then you didn't grow up in America, or you had a sheltered childhood. Everyone ^ above and below v this post has a more interesting life then I've had. I'm kind of a computer geek, and I love to learn about all religions. I enjoy all types of rock, indie, electronica, etc. I like the old stuff and the new stuff, the hard stuff and the soft stuff. I'm 6'3 178lb, here's a pic. Me. Um.. I've been on the site since Dec 2006, didn't really do anything but lurk, and I did much lurking before I actually registered. My sifting tastes are usually unique. I'm completely in love, she's Finnish. Not much else to say about me without giving away my serial killer identity. Ohcrap.
I just gave like 6 people a star by upvoting comments on this thread.

Edit: I got tired of the Waldo. I like the colorful balls more.
