What do you do for work ? (Talks Talk Post)

He'll be just like you, yeah, your boy is just like youuu. ♫

I wake up at 5:45am and drive 24 (or sometimes 23) minutes to work. I'm always the first one in the office so I get to enjoy solitude and silence for a couple of hours.
I am a software architect and implement systems from bottom to top and from back-end to front. I sit in front of two computer screens for my entire work day before heading home.
There I spend the rest of the day with my wife and 1.5 children, then at about 10:00pm start working on my contract software projects. I recline with my laptop on my lap as I work until 1:00-3:00am depending on the night (and how hard Mr. Sandman is punching my eyes shut).
Creating software and seeing it in action is my passion and I love everything about it. The only difficult part of my work is not having enough time in the day for it now that I'm a parent (and Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle" starts looping in my head when I even consider working instead of spending time with my boy).

Best Concert you Ever Saw? (Livemusic Talk Post)

mlx says...

Hmmm, here's my top five:

1. Harry Chapin. Saw him and his brother Tom in a small concert hall in 1978. I cried.
2. Rolling Stones. Birmingham, AL about 1981. Unbelievable!
3. Eric Clapton. Birmingham, AL, six months ago. He showcased new talent and played all his greatest. The arena was too big and the sound kind of sucked, but still...
4. John Prine, Nashville TN at the Ryman Auditorium in 2006. Surreal.
5. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Memphis TN, '82 at the Orpheum. Fuckin awesome.

Naked Britney Karaoke of Toxic

My internal copy-editor almost downvoted because the captioner kept confusing "your" and "you're", but I really like this song, so that won out. It's one of my favourite mainstream pop songs of the millenium (Richard Thompson already claimed "Oops! I Did It Again" for his compilation CD. The audio link is at the left of the story.) I have to give BritneyCorp credit for getting top songwriters and producers to work on her projects. And yeah, I miss old innocent-trashy Britney, too.

Speaking of covers, The Chapin Sisters do a great cover of Toxic (MySpace link).
