Putting faith in its place

sme4r says...

Clearly there are benefits from having faith, people who have a deep faith tend to live morally righteous lives, and people who "find" faith, tend to right their wrongs. The ten commandments are just a good set of ideas to follow to live longer. The problem I have with faith, most religions for that matter, is that the stupidest people seem to be attracted to it, as its pointed out in this video. It's all a crutch, though. A place holder for your decision making process. Any thing the bible can tell you, could have been just as easily produced by your own mind. The want to act better, the urge to live an honest life... It's all there in front of you and a book has little to do with it.

Most of the arguments for why a "God" exists are baseless and easily refutable... but you assume the person you are dealing with is on the same level of willingness to understand that you are or that you need them to be in order to make a meaningful decision. The biggest problem, and this stands for all humans, is that you can't reason with the unreasonable. People who are stupid enough to blindly follow some poorly written, and poorly re-written book are lying to themselves anyways, and probably have no interest or aren't capable of understanding logic and evidence.

This video is really for the benefit of people who already know that you can't prove "God" exists, What they need to do is make a video explaining how to snap the masses out of this 2000 year brain washing. I'm thinking something with a lot of colors and pictures of animals.

Be the Change: Obamanation

KnivesOut says...

Yeah, fuck people who are hungry. The should buy a sandwich. And fuck kids who can't read good. They should be ashamed of themselves for not reading better. And fuck old people who can't get good health care. Maybe they're fucking alzheimers made them forget to get it. And fuck kids with autism, pfft, little brats just need a good smack. And fuck people who trade in their gigantic SUVs for fuel-efficient cars. What idiots! And fuck people who smile at each-other instead of scowling all the time. And fuck paper bags too, for that matter.

Stupid lefty neolibs with all their brain-washing, feel-good, self-improvement bullshit. Don't they know we like the world just the way that it is right now? Fucked up! YEAUGHHY. HAIL SATAN!

Clips from "Brainwashing Camp" AKA "Jesus Camp"

Sagemind says...

The hair is standing up on the back of my neck - I feel sick to my stomach.

There is no way, these young minds can comprehend what is going on here. They were never given a chance of freedom of choice or a chance to make up their own minds. - This is no different than the brain washing within a cult!

She's obviously weak willed and delusional, therefore the brisk gush of cold reality would be good to wash her down from her tower of willful blindness.

I actually feel bad for her son as he will certainly be led to feel ashamed and dirty when she discovers he's homosexual.

Jesus Is The Best Anti-Depressant!

Animator Nina Paley Sings 'The Copyright Song'

westy says...

She is aware of the issue and is not just attacking the false use of the word theft , for copy right infringement.

It is a fact that in some cases copy right infringement amounts to theft by proxy.

say i was sum one that designs and makes bikes i would have had to invested my time in making the bike i would have invested cost in buying the metal and then that money will have gone to the people who got the metal for me.

if you duplicated bikes ore it was passable it would no longer be financially viable for people to design and build bikes and the metal industry would no longer be able to make mony from the bike industry. and well i would no longer be able to make mony from bikes evan though it was something i loved.

Why am i not allowed to make money out of music ore software ?

If we lived in a compleaty flat structured anarchist/ socialist society then I would not mind the problem is in the current system if your default position is copy everything that's non hard ware without paying for it then you are actually stifling creativity. ( ore at a minimum the ability to derive an income from creativity)

the thing that makes it worse is the big companies who are actually pushing the anti copy agenda are the ones that are not affected by it because thay can brain wash large sectoins of the populatoin with advertising to still buy the stuff thay are selling. Where as independent artists , small dev studios are counting on 100 - 1,000 sales to bank roll there next project.

I agree that Theft is the wrong word to use but Theft by proxy is a more than appropriate description of what copy right infringement can do in some cases not all.

I am actually more on the side of people copying things and distributing materials freely Evan if that is at the determent to some indi artists (not all indi artists ) I just don't think oversimplification of the issue is constructive.

In an educated ethical society it would not be illegal to copy anything and in fact all perchises of physical/non physical goods would be the same . you would simply pay Base rate production costs + what u thought it was worth. that way people with lots of money would pay relative to what thay had and people with less would pay relative to what thay had.

In the capitalist society we are in now this is only possible for coffee shops and other small retailers that can use sociology to there advantage in terms of people fealing obliged to be reasonable and it is yet to be seen if this could work if it was the norm (although i would hope it did).

Sam Harris - Why I Criticize Religion. Video Interview

Farhad2000 says...

The 9/11 attacks were carried out for explicitly religious reasons?

I disagree with that, Al-Qaeda like the Taliban uses a very nuanced and selective reading of the Islam, subverting almost all the conduct rulings mentioned in the Qu'ran with regards to warfare, specifically that you do not attack civilians. The 9/11 attacks were carried out because AlQ wanted to nullify the American status of being a world power untouched by violence, hoping that it would illicit a reaction which it and much more given that it allowed AlQ to increase recruitment through the way the US invaded Iraq and the implementation of torture.

Religion has always been used as an ideological system used to brain wash people into committing horrible violent acts, Islam doesn't really advocate subjugation of other religions, if it really did you would see the entire Islamic world rise up against the West. But it does do it? No because the actual teachings of Islam does not support terrorism. Neither does the Bible or Torah support violent attacks yet whole nations carry them out while praying to their gods.

Just as Christianity was used to fuel the Spanish Inquisition to get rid of whole swathes of people from Jews and Muslims to other civilians in Spain, so is Islam used to push forward violent acts. Religion is always used to reach a means to an end.

Furthermore it basically nullifies the actual issues the Arab world has against the US, specifically their continuous support of corrupt dictatorships in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the unlawful invasion of Iraq and its continuing problems and the staunch defense of Israel in the peace process with Palestine.

Should Obama Prosecute Bush and Cheney Pt.1

nickreal03 says...

this is another very clear example of brain washing. Everyone is the same under the law. How many times have you repeated this line, or hear it? Yet really seems to clearly indicate that this is not the case. So we can say that people with power have more rights than people with less power. If this is the case just say so not need to lie about it.

Alamut, historical novel on Hassan Ibn Saba & the Assassins (Books Talk Post)

Krupo says...

Actually it's more like the modern terrorists are inspired by the legend of the Assassins.

"First published sixty years ago, Alamut is a literary classic by Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, a deftly researched and presented historical novel about one of the world’s first political terrorists, 11th century Ismaili leader Hasan ibn Sabbah, whose machinations with drugs and carnal pleasures deceived his followers into believing that he would deliver them to a paradise in the afterlife, so that they would destroy themselves in suicide missions for him."

BZZZT - fail to the book reviewer for equating research potentially with the non-fiction side anyway - they were very much anti-drug. These were professional killers and the whole idea of drugs to brain-wash people is, at best, a way to wash away the power of ideology in encouraging people to follow their leader's call to wipe out their enemies. See http://www.amazon.ca/Secret-History-Assassination-Paymasters-Revealed/dp/1845297660 to refer to my source on that.

"The Soviet Story" - Why killing is essential to communism

EDD says...

Nice to see some of my native tongue on the Sift even though this material is somewhat controversial.

The documentary's called "The Soviet Story" (obviously) and it further exposes some of the atrocities of Stalin's regime and links it with Nazism, mostly ideologically, yet also by showing some documents on acts of cooperation between the two sides. All that got a lot of Kremlin-brain-washed youth's panties in a real tight bunch, as there's a real problem with some Russians acknowledging some of the war crimes of Soviet Union (a nation-wide poll recently placed Stalin as the greatest Russian that ever lived). So they hanged and burned a doll that was supposedly that of the film's director in front of the Latvian embassy in Moscow. It would be funny if historical misinterpretation via government propaganda and lies would not still be more than just widespread in today's Russia
