That's something that comes up quite often (Bill Mayer, I'm looking at you) and I always disagree. Yes we do have faith in scientific fact, at least I do.

Is that true? I've never actually tested it. I barely know what it means (something about energy, mass and the speed of light?). But I believe it's true. Why? Because I have faith in science. It's not the same as having faith in religious ideas, I will readily concede that. I have faith in science because I believe that if I studied hard, I could prove to myself that E does indeed equal MC^2 and I have faith in the general scientific community to call out someone who claims something without proof. Generally speaking in religion, having faith means accepting that it can't be proven.

I think we do have faith in science, but not blind faith.
