Oakland CA Is So Scary Even Cops Want Nothing To Do With It

BigAlski says...

Shite like this is the reason I moved out of California, living in good old Saint Paul, Minnesota now. Oxnard California is like a mini-Oakland. Here I have a 3000sf home built in 1901, 1 mile from downtown and no worries. My daughter is 10mos, one due in July, and we so enjoy walks in the neighborhood in the summer. My stepson walks to baseball 1 mile away, we meet him there pushing baby and walking dog, walk home as an American Family. It makes it all worth while. My wife is a CPA but I am a blue collar truck driver.

I think there are ALL KINDS of problems that lead to places like this in Cali... Fresno is almost as bad. Parts of the low desert are very bad, etc. If you want to write 2 page posts defending your view of WHY, maybe that's one of the reasons why as well, and you should define it, man up, and put it in there at number 12 or whatever. Sure "democratic stronghold" is part of the problem. American counter-culture has also been rewarding consumerism above all else for decades. Asians, Latinos, and Blacks cash in today and sell out tomorrow. The west coast is also way too expensive, real estate is too high, and money is the only incentive.

Obviously there is a problem. The left wants to look at answers that sound might or will help but accountability cant be ignored. The right wants to go to war and justify a police state when we are all Americans defining our on future together.

As a side note I might have had 10-15 encounters with these types over the years in and around Oxnard and if their skin was white and I was armed, maybe they would have died...or me. Who knows, there are always more than one way to deal with a problem. In the end the minorities pay the price and it isn't fair. They get worse jobs, their property isnt worth ShXXt, their children receive a poor education. Cookie-cutter whites, in the end, benefit on the left. The drive their Volvo SUVs on highways to schools or doctors or what have you paid for by the masses.

Snowden outlines his motivations during first tv interview

Yogi says...

This is my point I don't give a fuck what Greenwald or Snowden wants, I want a Nuclear Fucking Bomb. I want every little secret from every administration to come out and I want to plant a baseball bat into the side of every bastards head who has supported the evil that is done around the world.

You want to talk about morality? Not killing everyone involved in this is immoral.

ChaosEngine said:

Not even Greenwald wants that. There are genuine reasons for some information to be kept secret, both moral and practical.

On the moral side, everyone involved has said there is information in there that could lead directly to people being killed.

On the practical side, the second they do that and someone is killed, they instantly lose all credibility.

I don't give a shit if Joe Bloggs is a CIA agent undercover with Spectre. It's not relevant to me. I DO care that the NSA are spying on everyone. Snowden is doing the right thing.

Basebowling

brycewi19 says...

I would also guess that when a baseball hits a bowling pin, it most likely doesn't emit the exact same sound as when a bowling ball hits it.

Basebowling

PalmliX says...

Fake how? Like CG bowling pins or something? It's throwing a ball at a relatively hit-able target, not unlike what thousands of people do every day when they pitch baseballs. This guy looks to have some decent form, I just don't really see why this would need to be 'faked', unless you consider NOT showing the times when he wasn't as successful (i.e. editing) to be fake.

How to make safe and reuseable firecrackers

chingalera says...

I got a better one: Roll-type-caps, they still sell those, right?...for cap guns?

Take a roll or two-at-a-time, place on concrete ends-out, bash with mallet or the end/tip of a baseball bat. *NOTE: If using a baseball bat, hold the bat with one hand firmly by placing the knob of the bat in the center of your strongest hand and from about a foot above the caps, bring the bat's barrel-end down directly on the cap rolls.

One rolls' as loud as a .38 caliber round, two, a .45......Wear ear protection.

This dart-cap is lame and impractical, and destroys perfectly good darts, AND, there is no thrill from the smell of gunpowder, simply a lingering sulfur stink complete with lame "pop!"

Super Clever Sunglass Illusion

Zawash says...

No - you can clearly see that the plane of sharpness and the depth of field give the illusion away (and confirm that the video is not fake) - especially for the baseball at 0:50-1:00 - it is clear that this is an image and not a 3D object. Just like you clearly can see if the glasses are real or not in the final shot.
Quite obvious that the shots with the changing focus aren't faked, especially if you're used to low DoF photography with fast lenses. The plane of sharpness do not follow the 3D shapes when focusing back and forth - the plane follows the still image on the table.

And of course they adjusted the exposure during the shot! They go back and forth from large apertures to small apertures - they had to change the shutter time and/or ISO.

You can also tell that the deepest shadows on the images never get quite dark enough - look at the shadow underneath the globe in the opening shot, versus the deeper blacks on the typewriter and sunglasses. This is easily seen in all the shots, if you know what to look for.
And, stuff like the edges of the papers under the glasses in the final shot - real objects do not have chromatic aberration with a red tint towards the corner of the image and a blue tint towards the centre of the image.

Nope - real.
Of course it isn't one take, but they did not use editing trickery - they do not swap out 3D objects for 2D ones or vice versa.

FAKE!

(no, seriously though, they used editing tricks to fake that it was the photo of the object the whole time, when in fact the object was real for the in/out of focus shots, then the camera suddenly stops moving an instant before they turn the flat photo around to show the 'illusion')
