What is the right way to grip the Steering Wheel

xxovercastxx says...

Same here only it was 18 years ago.

There was a kid in my school, a few years older than I, who had a pretty bad accident but was fortunate to only have a broken rib. Why? Because his hand was in front of the wheel went the airbag deployed and he punched himself in the chest at a couple hundred miles an hour.

This has to be an old video. I was taught 9 and 3 and that was 15 years ago.

How Seattle Gets Buses Uphill in Snow

Porksandwich says...

They salt steep slick hills around here by backing up them and turning their salter on high, so they can use the grit for traction and have it melt through the snow as they back their way up. I thought this was a little dangerous since you might be backing up when a dumby starts trying to come down it....but it's what they gotta do.

This video seems like a bad accident waiting to happen, since tow truck probably can't see anything during this whole push.

MythBusters Cannonball Experiment Gone Wrong Hits Houses/Car

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Big fan of the show. I am glad no one got hurt, but I can well imagine that the Build team got a severe chastising by one James Franklin Hyneman. He's usually in charge of safety, and someone could have easily been killed or hurt by this lapse. I don't know what happened, but I bet dimonds to dollars that the cannon was not anchored properly before it want off and the recoil probably kicked the barrel up just high enough to clear the hill the shot was supposed to go into. The Mythbusters themselves probably didn't set up the cannon - unless it was the home-made cannon that Tory did for the "Ball & Chain prison escape" episode. That was more like a mortar though, and not designed to fire laterally. I hope this incident makes a blooper show, or gets broadcast in some way. You KNOW they have footage on the accident right up to where the shot went bad.

Not the first time the build team has had a bad accident though. In "Hollywood Car Myths" they were testing the movie axiom of when a car goes full speed under a semi-trailer and gets the roof knocked off but is still drivable. The myth was confirmed - the car slid right under the trailer. But the car went off the safety track and kept on going at like 70 miles an hour... It went right off the track, off the course, up a hill, and over a fence. Kari Byron had a horrified look on her face and just said, "Uh oh..." Luckily in that case (also) no one got hurt, but there was a road not too far past the fence the car flew over and someone could have gotten really clobbered. In that case it was also not the Build Team's fault. The site's safety rigging must have failed somehow.

Back for the Future

Motorcyclist records himself running from police

Tiver says...

I think the guy is an ass on the motorcycle, but I think the cop was even more of an ass. Both were driving dangerously, but the cop was driving far more dangerously. It's not surprising he's the one who caused an accident. Sure the guy on the motorcycle is partly to blame for breaking the law and running, but that doesn't mean the cop should drive so recklessly that he endangers people even more. The motorcycle could cause a bad accident where others are hurt, but compared to the big volvo wagon it's far more likely he'd cause far less damage.

The part at the end where he causes an accident you can almost see it coming, he comes flying into traffic purely hoping that his siren and lights will be enough to prevent an accident.

He really should have followed a little safer, just trying to keep visual contact long enough for a helicopter to start tracking the guy if they think he's a repeat offender. It's definitely worth some risk to stop the guy on the bike so he doesn't do it any more, but there's a point when it's safer overall to back off.
